The neighborhood

The Baarsjes is a very popular and upcoming neighborhood of Amsterdam and close to the city centre (15 minutes).

Local stores
In the Jan Evertsenstraat has many local shops like a bakery (across the street), butcher, fish store, drug store, pharmacy and many more. On the right side on the Jan Evertsenstraat you'll find a good quality supermarket called Albert Heijn where you can buy practically everything. On the left side on the Mercatorplein, you'll find another (cheap) supermarket called Dirk and a really good ice cream parler IJscuypje.

Eating & Drinking
The Baarsjes neighborhood has many nice restaurants and bars within walking distance. Some recommendations of restaurants/cafe's are: Bar Baarsch, Zurich, Radijs, and Cook.

If you want some additional choices go to the De Clercqstraat in the (Old) West disctrict. Here you also have the hallen at walking disctance (at Bellamyplein) which offers great food from many food stands, a restaurants and also has a cinema a inside.

Please see (URL HIDDEN) or (URL HIDDEN) for additional restaurants in Amsterdam or contact me for some extra advice.

Getting around

Public transport:
Getting from and to the apartment with public transport is easy. For getting from and to Station Sloterdijk (with trains going to the schiphol airport) you should take bus 15 that stops at the Mercatorplein square (stop named Jan Evertsenstraat). From and to the centre (and central station) take tram 13 or bus 18 with the stop on the Marco Polo street. Same stop for getting the tram 7 to the Leidseplein or further east.

Car parking:
There is a parking garage underneath the Mercatorplein (07:30-23:00 for 15 EUR per day) but you can also park around the corner in the Vespuccistraat (09:00-24:00 at 2,40 per hour). If you would like to park for free you could go to Slotermeer at Noordzijde or near the Socratesstraat. You can also look at for parking areas at (website (URL HIDDEN) prettigparkeren nl/kaart/#!Amsterdam/) add the dots since the website is hidden)
