The Baarsjes is a very popular and upcoming neighborhood of Amsterdam and close to the city centre (15 minutes).
In the Jan Evertsenstraat has many local shops like a bakery (across the street), butcher, fish store, drug store, pharmacy and many more. On the right side on the Jan Evertsenstraat you'll find a good quality supermarket called Albert Heijn where you can buy practically everything. On the left side on the Mercatorplein, you'll find another (cheap) supermarket called Dirk and a really good ice cream parler IJscuypje.
