This is the home of song and folklore. • We stayed in Maki's cabin on the hill and had an unforgettable time. Maki's mum made us all feel so welcome and had already stocked the fridge and cupboards with food and drink! Slovenia is a beautiful country and the people are all so friendly. We could recommend you stay here in the wonderful country. Thanks Maki!

  • The accommodation is really nice,we spent 5 pleasant days travelling around Slovenia and visiting its beauties. With a car you can easily reach every corner of this small, graceful country and get back to enjoy a quiet night. Just note internet connection is not really available: we had to go to Ljubljana's nearest fast food and use their free wi-fi zone.

  • We appreciated the good clean air and excellent views from the house. Even better was the hospitality shown from the hosts family and a nice welcoming hamper. We had some fun playing badminton in the spacious yard. Great stay.

    July 2013
  • I spent two wonderful nights at this apartment with a group of friends. We did have some significant trouble getting to the apartment, but that was because our bus from Trieste to Ljubljana unexpectedly left 40 minutes late. We couldn't meet Maki's mother in Grosuplje because it was too late, and we ended up in two taxis, very lost. We finally found his mother and had to walk the rest of the way to the house since the mud on the dirt road was so bad. Once we did get to the house though (and after we had to go back to dig out one of the taxis that had gotten stuck in the mud), we had a great time.
The weather was very bad with fog and rain, but the stove kept us warm and cozy. Wonderful, very quirky place; felt lived-in and rustic in a good way. Maki's mother and brother were both very helpful, and the breakfast food they left was really good. Internet very slow, but that's kinda part of the charm. Would definitely recommend.

  • The house is wonderfully located on the top of a little hill in a small town near Ljubljana, quiet day and night and close to a market where you can buy food and other things you may need.
Bob the stove was a reliable friend to keep us warm in these late March cold days (snowy too!).
Maki and his mother are very friendly and gave us all the instructions about the house and amenities in the region.
It was a very nice experience, thank you for all!

  • I didn't meet Maki because he was away skiing, however I completely agree with Sarah and Kathy. His family (and their families) are smiley, happy, lovely people, and they really made me feel at home in Slovenia. Maki's brother Klemen was extremely helpful, not just when I arrived, but for the whole week and he even took me for a 'spa day' in Novo Mesto with papa and his wife and kid. The house is exactly what I hoped for. It's a 20 minute drive from the center of Ljubljana, and stands alone in a field, on a hill and near a small forest. This means you can be partying or exploring Ljubljana one day, and completely alone in the countryside the next. Bob and Lisa (the fire and water boiler) also kept me warm and clean even though it was -8 in the evenings. In fact, I miss the sound of the fire now I'm back in a 'normal' house. So, Hvala Lepa to the Maki family (and to Maki) and I highly recommend a visit to the fairytalewoodenhouse if you're in Slovenia. I hope I will visit again soon.

  • Maki & his family were wonderful. Smily, Happy, lovely people, who really made us feel apart of their family. We had a fantastic time & would recommend it to anyone. The cottage is rustic & is somewhat remote (ish) if you don't have a car (which we didn't). Its approximately a 40 minute walk into Grosuplje if you want to catch the train/bus to/from Ljubljana. The little town is called Ponova Vas and it has a small grocery store that you can buy all you need from. There is good coffee a relatively short walk away from the cottage too, if you turn right out of the driveway (downhill the whole way), follow to the end, quick right, then left (dogleg) then follow to the bottom and you should be able to see Marincic on a Union Beer sign to your right. When you walk in locals may stare at you as though you're from outer space but the coffee is good! :)

There is an old church within 4kms walking distance and the Taborska (Zupernova Yama) Cave is a short distance after that, which we would recommend. If Maki isn't around his mother is always eager to help, Helena, she doesn't speak a lot of english, however she does speak a small amount of Deutsch/German (about the same as us!) and we managed to communicate well enough.

We had great fun with "Bob" & "Lisa" :P They helped to keep us warm & clean!

We had the cottage to ourselves of course, however Maki & family were in constant contact to make sure all was well.

A beautiful cottage with a beautiful family. Thank you Maki, Helena & family, we hope to come back to visit you in the future. Or you can visit us! :)

About
Allow me to introduce myself: I am Maki, 33, from Grosuplje Slovenia. I am very sociable, I love meeting new people. I recently lived in London for 1 year , working and get a taste of what life is like in another country. In Slovenia I work as a musician and I am also a guitar teacher and a ski instructor. I was also in the Slovenian Celebrity Big Brother house. With me you will spend a really unforgettable time in Slovenia. Relaxation, sports, entertainment or sightseeing. If you're interested, you are welcome. My big passion is music, and I love to perform. Matjaz Zivkovic. I was born on 30th April, 1980 as the last of three children. I attended Louis Adamič elementary school in Grosuplje, which I finished with excellent results. I was an excellent athlete (handball player) for quite a few years. Besides handball I became very interested in music, hence I finished guitar course in music school. I continued my education at Šiška Secondary School, where I successfully continued my athletic and musical careers. I graduated in 1998, when I enrolled in the Faculty of Sport, where I successfully completed two years. In this period I became very successful in my musical career, namely with my band D.D.V. and later also with the band The Drinkers. That is why I dropped out of the Faculty of sports. I toured many Slovenian and European stages with D.D.V., becoming largely recognized through my musical career. I became interested in the media, so I started my studies in the Faculty of Media in 2008. I finished my studies in February 2013 with my thesis “The Significance of Multimedia Projects in Societies For The Local Environments”. Due to my successful musical career (videos, albums) I was also invited in numerous reality shows: “Riba na oko”, “ Celebrity Big Brother ”. For six years I successfully managed the musical society and “Klub Stentbaj”, hosting (as the main organizer) more than 100 different bands, stand-up comedians, photography exhibitions, musical workshops, literary evenings, etc. My work and work experience mainly include media, multimedia and organization. I have been a part of the media for the last 12 years almost every day on several levels: hosting a music show, shooting music videos, TV shows, production and technical support in TV studios, shows, etc. Most recently, I worked in London as a broadcast engineer at a leading TV station for twelve months. My tasks included the preparation of TV schedules for world famous TV channels, changing banners, filming, archiving, installation, in short, everything that has to do with television production. As someone who has studied media production I have become involved with different kinds of multimedia and I enjoy it very much. My work is predominantly independent, but it is also team-oriented, with everyone equally responsible for the final result. I do a lot of fieldwork, which I also enjoy. I feel I have been enriched by my experience and looking forward to new challenges every day. I remain an optimist, very dynamic, upbeat and open to new challenges. I see a great deal of common ground for collaboration and mutual benefit in the position I am applying for. Please find enclosed my CV and work experience. Thank you for the attention, Yours sincerely, Matjaž Živkovič
