About this listing

Our house... all yours. Full kitchen for extensive cooking, free parking, fast wifi, $7 Lyft ride to downtown. Enjoy SD!

The space

This little house provides a cozy and charming urban stay for travelers who want the convenience of the city but also appreciate nature, simplicity and distance from the usual crowds.

Street parking is consistently available directly in front of the house. There's quick freeway access so you spend less time driving to popular destinations. Some things are within walking distance though most guests drive or use a car service like Uber. It’s 2.4 miles to downtown / convention center / Gaslamp — walk 4 minutes and a bus will take you there. Trolley is nearby too.

You'll find fast wireless internet for all your video streaming needs and a full kitchen stocked with pots, pans, dishes, and pantry essentials ready for extensive cooking. Perfect for long-term rentals and those looking to make San Diego their home. Enjoy the colorful fruits, local flavors and comfortable cottage living.

Previous guests have made fresh squeezed orange juice in the morning, picking the fruits directly from the trees in our yard. Feel free to enjoy apples, oranges, lemons, peaches, guavas, and avocados as they ripen — pick as much as you like while you're here.

This home seems best suited to those who seek to live like a local and eat like a local. The neighborhood is lively and active. It's a 5-minute walk to ethnic Mexican market, popular Salvadoran restaurant (pupusas!), new coffee shop (Imperial Grounds), tamale vendors, and occasional taco truck. (San Diego's fish tacos are the best!) With a diversity index of .678 you'll have a high chance of encountering ethnicities other than your own.

Stay in and luxuriate, or explore the great venues and activities our city has to offer. The bedroom closet will provide plenty of room for your luggage and clothes to be stored away out of sight.

Enjoy FREE PARKING on the street in front of the house with no time limitations or street sweeping requirements.

You'll be less than a mile to freeway entrances I-5, SR-94, and I-15. That means: a less-than-10-minute drive to Downtown San Diego, Balboa Park, Coronado Bridge & only 15 minutes to the closest beach (Coronado), Mission Bay, the airport, and the Mexico border.

- Clean linens & towels
- Refrigerator, stove/oven, cookware, utensils, wine glasses, microwave, toaster, salad spinner, oils, salt, pepper, spices for cooking & baking.
- Initial supplies for your stay including soaps, travel-sized hairdryer, COFFEE & TEA, sweeteners, creamer, etc

- Password secure FAST WIFI network (speeds up to 50 mbps)
- i-device compatible CD player/radio
- Bring your own laptop
- Maps, menus, info about fun things to do waiting for you upon arrival.

- Airport shuttle, errands, tour guide available if arrangements are made in advance.
- For the pet-allergy types, this is a pet-free house (no animals on the premises).
- Light sleepers: we are situated well south of the airport landing pattern.

There is a small load, twin tub WASHING MACHINE with spin dryer and a backyard clothesline for your minimal laundry needs. (It’s definitely not your average washing machine, but it’s a tiny house and an average washer/dryer definitely doesn’t fit!)

In addition to the above you'll find eclectic zen vibes, energy efficient choices, and character that comes with vintage 1940's houses. The whole house stays generally cool year round... we installed a heater for chilly mornings. We provide electric fans in the summer. (The rest of the time these are stored out of the way, so if you need them, just ask.)

Guest access

You get the key to the whole house. Your own four walls. The property is not shared with anyone.

There’s no private parking for guests, but lots of street parking.

Interaction with guests

Our approach is uncomplicated: message us if there's anything you need, anytime. Many guests have remarked on our quick response time. We hope this is something you'll appreciate, too.

We’ve lived in Central San Diego for a few years, so If you prefer to have guided attention and local suggestions, let us know. Otherwise, you have your privacy.

Other things to note

This is a whole house, not an apartment or a backyard studio. There used to be a noisy dog next door but he moved away. Our neighbors are great. Pretend like you live here and enjoy! .

Me and my girlfriend had an amazing time at Hillary's eco-house. It was a bit hot indoors at night but there was plenty of fans provided so it wasn't that big of a problem. We really enjoyed our stay. Recommended!

This is a great place to stay, especially if you're looking for a local feel. Loved having a kitchen, plenty of fans, and no television. We ate avocados off the backyard tree, left the doors open, and felt thankful that there was a market and coffee shop walking distance. Hillary checked in with us several times via email to make sure or stay was going as planned. Loved this place.

We stayed here for our honeymoon. Everything was above my expectations and dreams. :) The location was great. We took Uber and public transportation, and it was a fairly quick ride everywhere. The house was very clean. There was even some staple foods supplied! As well as some soap and toiletries. Everything in the pictures were accurate. It was cozy. At the end of the day we could honestly say, 'lets go home'. Thank you so much for your hospitality and readiness to supply our every need, and then some. My only wish is we had more time! There's so much to do in the city, I wanted more time at home. :)

Hillary was a great host - super communicative. Self check in was simple with the lockbox. The house itself is super cute. Parking is not allocated but I never had to walk more than 50 feet or so and mostly would park directly outside the house. The neighbourhood itself is not the best, but I didn't have any specific issues. I found the people kept themselves to themselves (after two false starts, I didn't make the mistake of trying to say hello to any locals!!) If I'm honest I mostly used the house as a place to sleep. The only bugbear I had was the washing machine. A 23-step manual cycle requiring filling the thing with water via bucket and switching the clothes between wash and spin compartments and back again ad nsuseum. I've never seen such a contraption before (and hope never to again). To her credit, Hillary mentioned that she would look into buying a modern machine. If you have any laundry needs, I would check in with her before booking as it really was a pain. Overall I had a good stay in the eco-house and, washing machine aside, I'd say give it a go. Where else in SD are you going to get a house with yard and parking at this price? :)

What a lovely stay in this quaint and quirky home, close to downtown. I am a travel nurse who worked in San Diego for 2 months. This home was perfect for me. It is close to the highway and only about a 10min drive downtown (a $6 Uber). I would recommend having a car staying at this location. There is always street parking right out front, which is a plus for San Diego living! If no car, Uber/Lyft is available and cheap from this location. I stayed during the winter months, and the heater was a must and made the home nice and warm. This neighborhood is quite unique! Lots of culture but nice and quite for being so close to downtown. This home had everything I needed to stay for 2 months! Hillary was also an amazing host. She responded quickly with anything I needed. Would love to stay again!

Hillary & Michael : We’ve been Airbnb hosts for over 5 years now and we use Airbnb when we travel, too. Combined, we have LOTS of world travel experience. Whether it's a hiking/surfing/cycling trip, crossing borders in an old beat-up camper van, working abroad, carving our own path or tagging along with a host family, we love meeting interesting people, outdoor adventures, food, culture… expanding our horizons. We're happy to share stories if we meet up sometime.

Wherever we've lived, our spare bedroom or couch has always been open to friends and family, and we have enjoyed opening up the whole house for business travelers, backpackers, and vacationers, too. Positive experiences all around!
