Our Los Angeles home is a restored 1930's spacious one bedroom apartment in a tri-plex I own with my two brothers.
The bedroom has a California King bed, touch-adjust lighting and ceiling fan, walk in closet, and side table with docking stereo for your iPhone. Also, we have a Pack'n'Play for those with small children.
The bathroom is newly renovated and is light and airy with a full tub and shower for tall people.
The living room feels like you are in a tree house and is completely private thanks to lots of little leaves. There is a flat screen tv (local stations only) with DVD player, stereo and wireless internet throughout the home.
Kitchen has everything you need with four burner gas range-top and conventional oven. Subway-tile splash and original double basin sink. There is a dishwasher, toaster oven, and built-in faucet with double filtered water purifier. Just off the kitchen is the laundry room with washer and dryer.
There is street parking but you have to be careful to read street cleaning signs to avoid parking tickets.
Getting around LA couldn't be easier from our place. The neighborhood is between Echo Park and Korea Town, close to Silver lake, Los Feliz, and is a 20 minute walk to Downtown. It's only a 7 minute walk to the Subway- Red Line Westlake station and the 720 Rapid Bus that takes you straight to the ocean. Driving, you are minutes away from Hwy-101, Hwy-110, Hyw 10, I-5 and 2 freeways.
It is a lively Central American neighborhood with great little taquerias at every corner... but the gem in Los Angeles' restaurant crown is Langer's Deli which was voted best Deli in America some time back - order sandwich #19!!
Happy to help with questions if you have them.
Interaction with Guests
We are living in Berlin Germany for the moment so our only interaction will be online or on the phone. We will be in contact though airbnb to be sure you are all set for your arrival, check in with you once you have settled in to be sure everything is in order and again just before you leave if you have any questions.
This is our family home and we only ask that you take care of it as you would of your own. My brothers also live in the building so please be kind, courteous and quiet. There are two separate entrances; the stairwell at the front houses our fathers paintings and though they may not be worth much in the art world, they are priceless to us. If you use this entrance you must always be certain it is locked, even when you are home. The second entrance is the back stairwell through the side gate where the parking is, we would appreciate if you used this entrance as it is the safest, quietest and most private of the two. (please be sure to open and shut this gate quietly as it can make a good deal of noise and wake my brothers little girl who sleeps above it. Thanks)
Another stay at Andrew and Birge's and this place could not have been any more perfect. It was a wonderful place to call home for half a year as my fiancé and I were getting settled into a more permanent place in LA. Andrew and Birge are amazing, attentive hosts and all around wonderful people – they truly provide the ideal Airbnb experience!
the house was beautiful, clean, big confortevole.Ho found everything we needed, everything worked, very quiet, Verame well served by public transport (with 5 min walk you took buses and subway to go all over los angeles) .... . Anyone planning to go to Los Angeles can not go and stay in this oasis of paradise.
My fiance and I stayed at Andrew and Birge's home for one month and could not have been more pleased. They were wonderful hosts, always communicated promptly, and made sure every detail was taken care of prior to our arrival. The home itself is an absolute gem of a place - spacious but cozy, absolutely gorgeous as pictured, and everything you need to make a hot meal at home. It's about a 10-minute walk to the train station and very central - I felt like I could shoot off in any direction and be in Los Feliz, downtown, or Hollywood and beyond without much effort at all. All in all, a fantastic home base and great experience!
Our stay here was peaceful and cosy. The place is clean and just as you see in the pictures. The hosts were great and very helpful
The apartment is a rosé between two thorns as the area is not as developed . However it was quiet and serene . The sun deck was lovely to use during warm days.
I would definitely stay again as overall we had a lovely stay.
Andrew was extremely responsive and helpful from my first email contact to him. He sent detailed instructions about the apartment. When we got there, we found a beautiful apartment with everything we needed for a lovely stay.
Flawless. That was our stay at Andrew + Birge's gorgeous "treetop" home. The apartment has been impeccably restored and is spacious and comfortable with beautiful artistic touches and everything a guest could want. It was great having a secure parking space on the premises, but we found we could walk to most of what we needed. The location is excellent: just a few miles north is hip Silverlake/Echo Park, a few blocks south/west is Koreatown, and a few blocks east is a largely Central American neighborhood, with downtown only a mile or two beyond -- a great place to experience the diversity of LA and its history: you can see some of the art deco buildings with their lovely cursive neon signs from the apartment window. While it is obviously central, the place is also quiet -- only the sound of children playing on the street on a weekend afternoon. Andrew and his brothers are wonderful and available to help with whatever you may need. We hope to stay here again on our next visit to LA!
Myself and a classmate made a trip out to LA for a conference in April 2013. I found Andrew and Birge's places based on its close proximity to the downtown core where our conference was being held and its bright and clean appearance.
The place is a lovely and is exactly as it appears in the photographs - bright, pleasant and spacious.
We rented a Honda CRV which took some practice to get down his narrow driveway (as warned!). After the second day, we had getting in and out down with no sweat.
An extra friend ended up tagging along, and Andrew accommodated our very last minute request for an extra pal.
Check-in was tremendously smooth and accessible with fantastic directions.
Andrew was very attentive to any concerns or inquiries we had about the place and got back to us within 10 minutes of emailing him.
I will certainly stay here again in future trips. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a cozy, home-like place to stay in downtown LA.
