Dear guest, please make sure you read the whole description. This is a private room and not a whole apartment. Of course you can use the whole apartment, but apart from the private room, you will share it with me :-).
I let a private room which is at the top floor (4th) of the apartment and measures 180 square foot (or 16.5 square meters). The beautiful thing about the room is that it still shows authentic style details from the 1900 era (see pictures). Furthermore:
- Double bed
- Lit jumeaux (XXL cover on the bed)
-,Two separate covers available on request
- Enough space for your suitcases to be out of sight
- Built-in closet for hanging clothes
- Extra closet for other clothes and private ownings
- Blinding rollers
On the same floor you will find:
- Private restroom
- Nice bathroom with large walk-in rain shower (hairdryer and towels are available, so you can leave these at home)
- Big bath
- Private sink
- Washer and dryer available
On the third floor there is a fully equipped kitchen which you can use at any time, no problem. You will even have your own fridge. If you would like to have a private breakfast, lunch or dinner, just let me know, and I will make arrangements not to be there. The lounge or living room is huge (at least for local standards) and can also be used at any time. It has a large wide screen television for your entertainment.
The building was built in 1902 and nowadays is a municipal monument. I bought the apartment in 2009 and had it fully rebuilt from the inside to contemporary standards. The total apartment measurers 1,600 square feet or 150 square meters. On the roof there is a terrace that measures 650 square feet or 60 square meters. It is not completely finished yet, but can be accessed on request. The apartment does not have the typical Amsterdam small and narrow staircases.
Note: I do live in the same apartment. Therefore, apart from the private room, we will share the place.
Right on the edge of Amsterdam Old-West. This means that it's a 5 minutes’ walk to Jordaan District, one of the hot spots of Amsterdam. Anne Frank House is only 10 minutes away and Dam Square only 15 (all by foot). Furthermore Leidseplein Entertainment Area is a 12 minutes’ walk.
Right in front of the apartment there are 4 tram lines that take you to all sights in the city. Direct lines will take you to for example:
- Artis Zoo
- Museum District with Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum or the recently re-opened Municipal Museum of modern art
- Albert Cuyp Market
- Red Light District
- Rembrandtplein Entertainment Area
- Dam Square
- Anne Frank House
- Several theatres
Within a range of 150 meters there is a supermarket, Turkish bakery and a fresh fruit and vegetables stand. Bike rental is less than 2 minutes away and of course travelling by bike is the Amsterdam way! You should try this at least once.
In principle I do not serve breakfast. However, on your request I can arrange one at an extra charge of 8 euro per person. On the other hand, the Old-West area is the new and upcoming district in Amsterdam with lots of restaurants and bars. Most of them serve breakfast too. I would specifically recommend Café Louter, Du Cap and Bagels & Beans, all within a 2 minutes walk, for a very nice but affordable meal (see pictures, and search for their websites for the most recent menus).
In the Old-West area there is usually enough space to park your car (street parking). The rates are rather high though (3 euro an hour or 27 euro for a full day). There are some great alternatives however. There is an option to park your car in one of the transferia right off the highway for only 8 euros a day, including two return tram tickets to the center. Feel free to contact me for some extra information about this option.
WHO AM I?:
Well, I am Bob and I will be your host during your stay in Amsterdam. I will try to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I know the city very well, so if you have questions or requests, do not hesitate to ask me. I can arrange a public transport card for you for the first 24 hours or longer. Just let me know before your arrival. I speak Dutch, English and German. My French is a little bit rusty however. Besides me, my fat black cat Fritz lives in the apartment. Of course I will keep him out of the private room at all times.
Smoking is allowed on one of the balconies.
Because the apartment is on the third and fourth floor and no elevator is available, it is not accesssible for wheelchairs.
What do I ask from you?:
That's easy, just be a good guest and act like it's your home. Bring your good mood too, it's a friendly city.
I am looking forward to hosting you!
Bob is a fantastic and friendly host. He immediately managed to make us feel like at home, and so did Fritz, the Cat!
We had a wonderful time staying with Bob. He was a great host, laid back, welcoming and friendly. We had some very enjoyable and amusing chats in the evenings. The apartment is very stylish and spacious with a particularly beautiful bathroom. It's also very well located right on the edge of the historic and charming Jordaan neighborhood and well connected with a five minute tram ride from the museumplein. The guest room was very comfortable. All this and Fritz the cat too! Highly recommended!
Thanks Bob for your hospitality, we really enjoyed our stay and your warm welcome. Nice clean room with good bed & luxurious bathroom right in the centre of Amsterdam.
Thank you Bob, it was a great experience to be at your place. The house, and specially the room and the shower is amazing!! Just as you can see in the pictures. Clean and confortable. Its also close to the city centre, 10-15 minutes walking to Dam square :)
We would really recommend it!
Perfect place! Bob was traveling abroad when I arrived, but he arranged for his niece to come by. Quiet rooftop appartment close to tram hub, an amiable host, and a lovely feline roommate.
We had a great stay at Bobs' apartment. Although we didn't get to meet Bob as he was away his communication made organising easy and we loved staying with his cousin Rosanne instead! It was lovely to have such a friendly and welcoming host, it really made our Amsterdam experience all the much better! As for the apartment it was beautifully decorated and equipped and provided the perfect place to explore Amsterdam from. Highly recommended!
My stay in Bob's place was wonderful. Although I didn't get to meet Bob, I get the feeling that he is a nice and wonderful man. I enjoyed my stay with his cousin Rosanne.
The apartment is gorgeous with modern design and interior to give you a luxurious atmosphere during your stay in Amsterdam. You really do feel like you're "living the life" as you watch the pulse of Amsterdam take place through the massive windows. My stay in Bob's place was worth every dollar.
The facilities all work splendidly and I particularly enjoyed using the wonderful modern open-plan shower.
Location wise it is a 10 minute stroll to the Anne Frank museum (which is very well done) and the famous "9 streets" shopping district. Another 10 minutes in the same direction puts you in the very centre of Amsterdam, the palace, Dam Square and of course the Red Light District. A 10 minute stroll in another direction from Bob's place has you in the heart of the most wonderful park in Amsterdam, Vondelpark, perfect for exercise, walking or simply enjoying the outdoors. 10 minutes further in that direction had you in Museum Square where all of the fabulous museums are located. Everything really is walking distance, but if you're feeling lazy there are tram stops all around Bob's place literally!
There's not much more to say other than Bob's place is beautiful, comfortable, convenient and valuable and I would stay there again in a heart beat. Hope to meet you next time Bob.
Wow - Bob's place is fantastic, and he is the perfect host. Everything is immaculately set out, comfortable and functional. The lounge overlooks the bustling street below - which makes for interesting viewing. The kitchen is well stocked - we only prepared a few meals, but it has everything you need. The bedroom itself is on the top floor - it is spacious and the bed is super comfortable. The bathroom is amazing - with a huge bath, double sinks and a rainfall shower head. Then there is the roof deck - my god it's incredible! We didn't go up until our last day, as it had been raining and we simply hadn't thought of it. The view from up there is amazing. In Spring and Summer it would be a perfect place to hang out - even in Winter it is great. The house is in a good location - everything is no more than a 20 minute walk - or much less if you were on bicycle. Jordaan and The Nine streets are a stones throw away, and Stedelijk and Rijksmuseum are basically on the same road. We ended up just walking everywhere - it's the best way to see the city and people.
Bob has put a lot of time and effort in to making his apartment a luxurious modern home. He really was a fantastic host - he let us check in late, helped us with our bags up the stairs and then welcomed us with beer. Many nights we ended up just hanging out with Bob and chatting for hours. That being said, Bob completely respects your privacy and gives you plenty of space to do your own thing. He is a funny, charming and entertaining dude and we absolutely loved staying at his place. Oh and Fritz! He is a big fat grumpy cat, who is extremely suave and sassy. It was lovely to be around a cat again, as we haven't seen ours for almost 2 months. Fritz is very funny, walking around his house and chatting with Bob. "Lekker!"
Amsterdam is an awesome place to visit. Every time I come here, I think I should move here to live. It gets a bad rep as a 'party town' - but there is so much more to it than that. It's one of my favourite places in Europe, and knowing that Bob's place is available at such a modest price guarantees I will come back again.
Thank you Bob - and Fritz! (=^・ｪ・^=)
