GERTRUDE STREET, FITZROY - with its multitude of cafes, bars, pubs, boutiques, restaurants, & art galleries you never need to leave Fitzroy.
But if you decide to, the city is a short, pretty stroll away or just jump on a tram at the end of our road and you're there in no time. Carlton is just on the other side of one park, Richmond on the other side of another (walk to MCG, Rod Laver) etc etc etc.
I have 2 rooms available - the other listing is http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/150729 - and this listing is for the lovely private top floor of my large 3 level house all to yourself with a double room, bathroom, balcony & study. Very clean, lots of natural light, vintage furnishings and a super comfortable queen bed.
This is an excellent spot for guests in Melbourne for a short time who want to live like a local. Or for those lucky folk who are moving to Melbourne (nice choice!) it's a great landing pad while you look for something permanent.
Located in between action-packed Brunswick and Smith Streets, this is a fantastic, diverse area full of great cafes, restaurants, wonderful local pubs, art galleries, parks, live music venues, decent architecture and the Melbourne Museum. The beloved #86 tram ('tramily') and #112 are just at the end of the road.
All only minutes walk away are:

the list goes on ... and on....and on...
The house has all the mod cons mixed in with vintage collectables. And rare in Melbourne in that it is very light and bright.
Guests are welcome to help themselves to the kitchen on Level 2 which has organic breads & from our local Fatto A Mano organic bakery. If you want to cook there are organic oils etc to get you started and plenty of cupboard & fridge space.
Breakfast - help yourself to the organic breads, spreads, juices & fair-trade teas ... the coffee on our doorstep is too good to justify keeping coffee in the house (seriously, there is no coffee in the house). 'The Guardian' and Melbourne's excellent 'The Saturday Paper' are delivered weekly. The kitchen lights are tucked between the linen cupboard and the kitchen wall on the dining room side,
Your own rooms are - good size bedroom with super comfortable queen bed, tv/dvd player (help yourself to the 100+ dvd's in the lounge), study, balcony and bathroom. Please help yourself to the organic shampoo/conditioner/body wash/hairdryer.
The set up is very independent and sometimes we might rarely cross paths as I am out a lot but I'm always contactable if you need anything.
FROM THE AIRPORT - I recommend "StarBus Airport Shuttle" - door to door service from 5am till 7pm, 7 days. Cut and paste StarBus Airport Shuttle into your search engine for more info. Or a taxi for approx $55 is the fastest.
Needless to say, I love it here, you will too!
Smoking: strictly outside-outside with the doors closed please :)
Your own level, shared living areas, kitchen & balconies on level 2, laundry and front door access on level 1.
Interaction with Guests
This is a very independent set up. My rooms and another guest room is on Level 1 but we are all usually out and about enjoying Melbourne. I'm always contactable on my phone.
Diversity, cafes, boutiques, galleries, pubs, parks, restaurants, cocktail bars, music.
There is so much to offer in Fitzroy you could spend most of your time getting around on foot, but there is a tram at the end of the lane way that takes you straight into the city.
Other Things to Note
Oh Fitzroy, you are a treasure.
- Please call out 'hi!' or 'bye!' when you use the front door.
- Please ensure the front door is always locked.
- The records/player are just for my personal use.
- The wooden cabinet in the dining room, the alcohol and the kitchen cabinets with rubber bands on them are just for my personal use.
Really .. please sing out 'hi' when you walk in the door and 'bye' when you walk out of it ... it's nice to know who is or isn't around :)
Perfect! Great location, well appointed, very clean. Highly recommended, I will definately stay here again.
Ramona's apartment was an ideal place to stay in Fitzroy close to Gertrude Street but away from traffic and street noise.
Everything was as described, very good communication.
Ramona was a kind friendly and inobtrusive host would happily recommend to friends.
I had a wonderful time staying in this room. It is in a great location: walking distance to the city and so many cafes and things to do in Fitzroy. Ramona is an impeccable host and does everything she can to make sure you have a comfortable stay.
Ramona is a great host and the house is the perfect location to discover Melbourne at its best. The room was spotless, with lots of attention to detail (info brochure in the room, fresh water and chocolates). Ramona's extraordinary style is visible throughout the house, awesome decoration everywhere. She also has excellent recommendations for bars and restaurants in the area which are all a short walk away. Breakfast is also included with a delicious variety of breads to choose from. I absolutely recommend her beautiful home!
Ramona's house is absolutely exceptional...and the experience of staying here really raises the bar for Air B and B hosting. The house really is wonderfully located, and in one for the best parts of Melbourne to explore, a really arty and fun area with charming shops and restaurants and close to the city centre. The house itself is stunning and spacious and immaculate. We really didn't want to leave and would have been happy living there!!
Ramona herself is charming and her attention to detail is incredible, from maps of the area, to fresh bread left in the kitchen, to a Miki card provided, lovely fresh towels and an exceptionally powerful shower. She also gave us recommendations of places to go and see that were fantastic - such as 69 Gertrude Street for coffee, do check this place out! All in all i thought it was an inspiration staying here - i am an Air B and B host myself in London and will be taking back many a tip from my stay!
Ramona's place is really exquisite - she has great taste in decoration and we found her various collections really interesting. The room was big, comfortable and had its own balcony and bathroom (with a huge shower!). We loved staying there.
(The free bread from the bakery she works at was a real bonus. We really enjoyed our breakfasts in the kitchen and took ages to leave each morning!)
Ramona was a wonderful host, allowing us use of the room early as our flight arrived quite early in the morning. A lovely light filled room greeted us, with towels, chocolates and maps of the area laid out ready for us. Ramona's place was very clean and tidy, calm and relaxing. The great location meant it was only a short walk to good coffee, food, shopping and trams into the city. Ramona was attentive, checking in to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed while giving us plenty of space to do our own thing. We couldn't have asked for a nicer placer to stay or a better host! thank you!

Hi there. I'm originally from New Zealand but moved to Melbourne 14 years ago.
Like most people who arrive in this wonderful city we think we are going to move on, but as soon as we get here ... well, there are reasons no-one ever wants to leave! I was lucky enough to find this great house in the best part of Fitzroy so here I still am. I have a habit of collecting things hence all the vintage love around the house. Over the last decade+ I've shared my home with hundreds people from all around the world. Things I can't live without? Friends, freedom, Fitzroy... If you think my home sounds like your kind of pad I'd love to hear from you and know what brings you to Melbourne.
