ABOUT US AS HOSTS: We've worked in Manhattan and New Jersey. And we've lived in the East Village in Manhattan, as well as several neighborhoods in Jersey City. Based on our experiences in the New York metropolitan area for the past 15 years, we are happy to give you guidance on where to go and what to do. We live in the upstairs apartment.

AIRPORT INFO: If you have a choice among the three New York City airports (Newark, JFK, LaGuardia), we highly recommend flying to Newark Airport, just a 20-minute taxi ride from the apartment (or an Air Train to the PATH train which is a bit longer, but easy). We can recommend a taxi company that charges about $30 from Newark airport.

CHECK-IN AND CHECK-OUT INFO: Please be sure that all guests have a driver's license or passport for check in. All guests must be included in the initial reservation. Check-in time MUST be arranged in advance due to our work schedules. We will try to be as flexible as possible, but depending on the day, we may not be able to let you in the apartment before evening. Unless you have arranged in advance, check-out time is 11:00 a.m. Thank you!

Guests have access to the yard from the apartment by going through the shed under our deck. On request, guests may use our washer and dryer as well.

We take our cues from our guests. Many guests want privacy, and we often do, too! But we frequently finding ourselves sharing a meal or a glass of wine with guests, or bringing guests to a favorite local place.

ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD: Lafayette is a wonderfully diverse, welcoming neighborhood. We know everyone on our block, and you can't walk out without saying hi to someone. Having been here for six years, we can't imagine living anywhere else. It's a real non-touristy U.S. experience.

There are several bodegas and take-out restaurants nearby, and a large grocery store a ten-minute walk away. The Brightside Tavern (sports bar and restaurant) is a ten-minute walk away, and can pick you up and drop you off for free. There also are lots of food and beer/wine delivery options. It's also only a ten-minute walk to Liberty Science Center, the biggest science museum in the NYC area. The Science Center has the largest IMAX dome movie theater in the world!

Just a ten-minute walk to the entrance to gorgeous Liberty State Park on the Hudson River – miles of cycling and jogging trails, nature center, playground, barbecue areas, and the ferry to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Jaw-dropping views of Manhattan and Lady Liberty. And the apartment is one mile from historic downtown Jersey City with a plethora of cool restaurants, bars, and shops; a sprawling and popular beer garden; and the Grove St. PATH subway station.

GETTING TO NYC: Manhattan is less than a half hour by public transportation, 10 minutes by car. From the Grove St. PATH station, take the PATH subway to Manhattan – six minutes to the World Trade Center stop or 15-25 minutes to Greenwich Village and on up to midtown. (From the apartment, it's a one-minute walk to the bus and an eight-minute walk to the light rail, both of which bring you to downtown Jersey City. Or on a nice day, you can walk to the PATH subway in 20 minutes.)

  • We had such a fantastic time! The apartment was spotless and so well organised and stocked. Then information was fantastic and we loved every second of our stay!
    Thank you so much x

Viel Spaß in new York!

  • Our stay was awesome! Once you learn your way around everything is amazing! The home was extremely accommodating with just about everything you could need. Including fabulous host who were a text away for any of my ridiculous request. Not to far from transit, how ever u may find yourself flagging down a city bus like a taxi. Other highlights of the visit were the relaxing shower head after the long days through the city, and the projector! Over all a great stay couldn't ask for much more.

  • We loved staying at Susan and Ivan's appartment! Everything is exactly as described and shown in the pictures. Even the fridge was filled when we arrived...a very cozy and affectionate place to stay. You can always contact Susan and Ivan if you have any questions and everything is perfectly organized. Getting there from JFK with public transport and also getting to Manhattan is no problem at all. We had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend staying there!!!

  • Amazing stay at Susan & Ivan's apartment, they were both very helpful & kind. The apartment is cosy and homely and we had everything we needed. The bed was really comfy and the power shower was fabulous.

The walk to the nearest PATH station is quite long (took us about 30 minutes) but you can get a bus or a light rail instead of walking. We preferred walking as we had breakfast in the Brownstone Diner a few times, which was on the way (& good, reasonably priced food).

    We would recommend this apartment.

    Response from Susan And Ivan:

We really enjoyed hosting Haley and Will and thank them for their great review! We wanted to mention that it's a 20-minute walk to the Grove Street PATH subway station if you walk the most direct route (we leave a map that shows you this route in the apartment). Ivan worked in Manhattan for years, and walked this route often. It's 30 minutes to the Exchange Place station, so we recommend Grove St. if you're walking. As Hayley noted, you can also take the bus or light rail to get to the PATH subway, and it's easy to order a car from Uber that takes you to or from Grove Street for about $6 USD. There's also a taxi (email hidden). where you can get a taxi for $6 back to the apartment. And let us know if you're interested in the apartment and have any questions!

  • Staying in Susans and Ivans beautiful apartment was the best decision we could have made. We loved it like it was our home right from the beginning. It looks exactly like on the pictures and Susan and Ivan are the perfect hosts. They are really really friendly, give you lots of information and they have such a positive attitude - we are almost certain we'll never find this combination (perfect apartment/perfect price/perfect hosts) again.
While we were there it was freezing cold outside - which was good because of the wonderful fireplace that we loved to use every evening ... :).
We would totally recommend the apartment!! And if we are going to come back we will definitely try to book it again. Don't be put off by the distance that you've got to NYC. We enjoyed the walk from the Path to the apartment and staying somewhere more quiet than in Manhattan.

  • We had a wonderful time staying with Susan and Ivan. They gave us a great tour around the apartment and left us with no open questions. For every future guests: Make use of the great folder they prepared with infos on restaurants, grocery markets and maps!

The apartment was cosy & homely! The best part was the great firelace....and we really made good use of it! :D

We had a great time exploring the city during the day and coming home to the apartment and enjoying a movie on the big screen and with the quality of the cool new projector!

Even on our last day - when a big snow storm hit NYC and NJ and we had no clue how to reach the PATH station - Susan was sooo kind to walk with us to the bus station near a grocery store. Since they knew Susan well one of the guys drove us tothe station in his car! Without her & her friends help we would never have been able to reach the PATH and our plane!

I highly recommend Susan and Ivan as hosts! They are great and kind and their apartmment is just perfect!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
