I want to make my guests feel at home, and if it is possible for me to pick you up from the airport I’m happy to. I love hosting people of all ages and from all parts of the globe. I grew up in Yokohama, Japan and come from an Irish-American heritage, and appreciate all cultures.

I require a $200 refundable damage/security deposit and a one-time $55 cleaning fee – both amounts are handled through Airbnb. Cleaning fee does not include taking out your trash or doing dishes. If bags of trash or dirty dishes are left or place is excessively dirty additional cleaning fees will be deducted from security deposit. I will provide you with my housekeepers phone number should you want to hire her services during your stay, but also some cleaning supplies are in the unit so you can do your own cleaning if you're here for an extended stay.

No pets please - I'm doing my best to keep allergy free units.
To keep your Airbnb fees down the 14% LA CITY HOTEL TAX on stays 29 days or less must be paid in cash upon arrival. Stays of 30 or more days are considered a rental by the city so are not subject to the tax.

It's been perfect. Quiet, cute little spot and haven't really got a bad word to say about it, every morning to have coffee outside with the cats...you'd pay double for a place like that usually in LA. I'd highly recommend it, especially if you're thinking of staying for over a week or two, so much cheaper. Judalon is lovely, and just what I like in being attentive but appreciative of privacy. Great stay!
I had a great stay!
It was the perfect place for my weeklong stint in LA. Close to everything.
Judalon was completely on top of every detail and super helpful with any and all questions. Always super responsive.
The bungalow was well appointed, cozy and the dual shower heads in the bathroom were a very nice perk.
I will definitely be back when I'm in LA for business.
I spent about a week at Judalon's guest house and was able to extend my stay an extra day or so. Judalon was VERY accommodating. We didn't see each other much, but the conversations we did have were an absolute delight. Access to washer and dryer a huge plus. Location is good, area felt safe. There was one night when a neighbors dog kept barking, but apparently that was quite unusual. Also, there are A LOT of cats in the yard; if you have an aversion to cats - don't stay here. Personally, I would definitely recommend staying here.
The cottage is everything you would expect from the description and photos. Judalon is a thoughtful host and a delightful person. I really enjoyed the various feline residents who are lively and charming denizens of the yard. I would stay here again, absolutely; the cottage has virtually every amenity a traveler could ask for.
John, your energy was such a great blend with our little complex. We just feel you weren't here long enough! Yes, my backyard seems to have the calm and safe-haven vibe that attracts the cat & kitten population, but I think it speaks of the tranquility of the property and in the middle of a hectic city it says a lot. Thank you for being here.
I had a good and long stay here. It's perfect if you want to have privacy and a place to get work done while still being on a budget. The house is nice, has a comfortable bed and a beautiful bathroom. The only thing I missed for a long stay was a bit more storage space (I have a lot of stuff) and being able to sit outside more at night, which could sometimes be difficult due to sprinklers and little outdoor light. But I think this is typical in LA. The area is pretty quiet, not much going on, but you have buses to Venice beach and Downtown right outside, and buses to WeHo and Hollywood just a ten minute walk away. Venice blvd also has a bike lane that goes all the way to the beach (takes about an hour). Miracle Mile and Beverly Hills were also pretty close by bike (about 20 mins). I felt very safe, the only thing I feared were raccoons and spiders! But am I sissy when it comes to these things :)
Judalon is really nice and helpful, she even took me grocery shopping when I first arrived which can be a bit difficult without a car. She also showed me around in the area. The cats are really cute! If you're lucky, you'll also catch some newborn kittens. All in all a very good deal. Thanks for everything, Judalon!
Viviana, thank you so much. It was a joy having you here. I love how much you enjoyed and used the patio, and yes those pesky sprinklers do get in the way, but the gardener tells me that is the optimal watering time! I'm looking into some ways to improve on this now that I see how much it meant to you. Thank you.
You couldn't ask for a lovelier hostess than Judalon! She is not only friendly and accommodating, she is also very interesting to talk to. She goes out of her way to make your stay more comfortable and she even gave me a ride to the grocery store when I arrived and a ride to my interview the next day. The guest house has an assortment of teas, but she still brought me my favorite, green tea, when I mentioned wanting some. The bathroom has a nice assortment of hotel toiletries which was very helpful. The room has simple cooking facilities (microwave, mini-fridge, toaster and other appliances, no stove or convection oven) and is fine for short-term meal prep. Freezer is tiny but works well.
The downside is that the room was not truly clean when I arrived. It was in great need of deep-cleaning and there was a lot of dust and spider webs. On the tops of and behind/under furniture, etc., dust was so thick, it was in wooly gray clumps. The fans were super dirty and I didn't want the dust falling on me in bed, so I cleaned them, myself. I did a LOT of dusting. The thin carpet was also very dirty and I didn't want to walk on it. Granted, I am a total clean freak. Judalon apologized and said she wouldn't charge me the 14%CA tax on short rentals. I appreciate that. I still think (as I told her) that her housecleaner is ripping her off. She did a half-assed job and there is NO WAY that place was steam-cleaned, certainly not the carpet. I know the turn-over was fast, but still, she did not do her job.
Besides that, I think an A/C window unit would help on really hot days. A few days the fans were not enough even when there was a nice breeze outside. I imagine on truly hot days, it would be intolerable. The evenings have a really nice cool breeze and it's nice to sit out there and chill.
I thought the house rules were reasonable, and I would add one about noise. There's a musician in the next guest house who works all day and night. Not super loud, but still disturbing. I did ask him once it got late when he would finish so I could go to bed, and he was very cool about it. Just FYI--there will be music played all the time, the same section over and over and over...but nice guy. I didn't want to be the crabby woman that kept asking him to turn it down, so I just sucked it up.
Judalon is a great hostess and she earns her high ratings!
I appreciate your recognition of the extras I do, and while I don't do them for any reason other than being kind or helpful when it is possible it is nice to know it's recognized as special and not taken for granted.
I'd also like to clarify again what I told you in regards to the challenge my cleaning person had in making the guesthouse available to you on your requested date. You contacted me on a Sunday for a Monday check in with a guest leaving that same Monday after being here for 2 months. I didn't know if my cleaner could come at all, and as it was she had only an hour and a half to give me when what she needed was a full day. I know she used the steamer on the floors and counters because I washed the cleaning rags and steamer pads. There was no time to send the carpet out to be dry cleaned, but it was vacuumed & top steamed. I've never had a guest pull permanently placed furniture (built-ins not intended to be moved) out of it's place, and while I appreciated the opportunity to clean up the dust it wasn't safe to move the refrigerator or the file cabinet.
I do make it clear in my listing that I don't have AC. I've lived here 20 plus years and use that space myself so am aware of its temperatures. It's rare that AC is needed, especially at night when the ocean air rolls in. I was in the main house with only fans for cooling, and it was a bit of a heatwave during your stay. I'd suggest that if you plan to be in a space during the heat of the day and you come from a colder climate like SF then you should rent only places with AC.
I'm sorry you didn't mention to me that the other guests music bothered you. I do get many creative guests and he is a composer here for some movie I believe. My bedroom and french doors face the backyard and I didn't hear him. He actually seems to be gone to the studio most of the time, but like you he is an Airbnb guest not a permanent resident.
Again, I was sorry we didn't have the time to do the customary deep clean after a long stay, but I would not have been able to accommodate your stay had I held out for the deep clean. I think you can see from my other reviews that no one has ever thought the place was unclean.
Great location! Close to everything, only 15 minutes from Santa Monica (with no traffic). Judalon is a great host, very accommodating and kind. She gives you space and privacy, if needed! I was there for 2 months, so not having a full kitchen got old (but that was my own choice). Only negative I would give is there are a lot of cats. But, if you're a cat person or don't mind them its a good place.
My boyfriend and I stayed at Judalon's guest cottage while I was settling in Los Angeles after moving from Texas. Judalon was extremely kind and friendly, but never overbearing. She was an excellent host and gave us directions and advice. Her cottage is cozy and felt like home. It was clean and comfortable with all the amenities one would need for a short stay. The location was perfect and centrally located to all that Southern California has to offer. I would recommend Judalon's cottage for anyone looking for a cozy and comfortable place to call home during a trip!
I just spent the month of April at Judalon's guest house. It was the perfect airbnb rental! Sunny mornings in the garden and a private, affordable space where I felt completely comfortable and could come and go as I please. The location is excellent, quiet street with ample parking and easy access to everything; quick drive to the beach/Culver city galleries and restaurants, mid-Wilshire museums etc. I even discovered a great cafe I could walk to as a morning ritual (15 minutes to Pico through the mid-city residential neighborhood). Judalon is an excellent host, our paths didn't cross all that much but when they did she was warm and helpful and always made me feel at home —extending her generosity beyond the norm to make sure I had what I needed.
I will definitely be staying here again! Thank you Judalon!
Me and my daughter (13) had a pleasant stay at Judalons´s place. She was a very nice host, no problem with late evening arrival and the place is just like in the pictures. Good location, up to 15 min drive to most places of our interest, easy parking on the street and no disturbing traffic/noise at night. We became friends with one of the garden cats wich was given the name "Arnold" by my daughter (we missed our cat&dog at home). We had an overall good experiece.
