Junko is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Junko was very helpful in planning out our itinerary and what would be the most efficient areas to see in a day. She also recommended a few restaurants in the area that was popular among the locals.
I wasn't feeling well when I first arrived and Junko was very caring and did regular check-ups on me throughout the day. She also tried to get us tickets to the GHIBLI museum in Tokyo. (unfortunately it was SOLD out) TIP: Book 1-month in advanced!
There was a bicycle shop just beside the station that we used to go to ALL the major ATTRACTIONS in Kyoto. We rented the electrical Bikes for 400/yen a day which is CHEAP in Japan.
The apartment itself is very clean and cozy. It has all the things you need to cook a basic meal. We only used the kettle to boil water and the toaster for the bread each morning, but they also have a microwave and gas range.
There is a living room with a big flat screen TV which is separated by Japanese style sliding doors to the kitchen and another set of sliding doors separating the second bedroom, which is where we stayed.
The bedroom was equipped with an air-conditioner and heater. It was very peaceful and quiet in the night, and the blinds blocked out the sun very well as sometimes we slept until 11am.
For what she offers this place is an absolute bargain in Kyoto. If your looking for a "home" base to cycle around the city. Then I just can't think of any better place in the area.
Thank you for everything!

I strongly recommend Junko's tatami place!! She is such a great host, we really felt like we were visiting a friend, instead of just renting a room. She picked us up from the bus stop by car to carry all our luggages, welcomed us with warm tea and matcha kit Kat (my favorite!!). Our stay there felt like friends sharing daily adventures and cultural experiences. The apartment itself is very very clean and warm! Location is perfect because it is close to JR station and many buses can be taken straight to Shijo center. Definitely will come back again! Arigato, Junko, for all the laughs we had! See you in Europe!
Everything was perfect! We loved this typically japanese flat (futon, toilet with heater, japanese table, tatami...) In addition, it's very well located and clean. Junko is an EXCEPTIONAL host, very friendly, who speak a perfect English and who took the time to chat with us. Hopefully we will come back one day in Kyoto to stay again in this beautiful place.
Junko was a great host - quick with booking and even offered to help me plan my Kyoto itinerary before I arrived! Her place was very comfortable - it was equipped with a small space heater which made the room extra cozy for me. Her English is excellent and she was very responsive to emails when I asked her for recommendations in planning my day. I would definitely stay here again!
Junko was a wonderful host who made me feel right at home in Kyoto. Her apartment is clean, comfortable, and within a reasonable distance from most of the major tourist sights. Highly recommended!
It's really a great experience stay in Kyoto, and live in the guest-house own by Junko! The location is convenient while the train station is nearby, and you can rent the cheapest bike in Kyoto here!
Junko is a great host, if you need any suggestions about travel plan, just discuss with her, she will give you a perfect and local recommendation! And don't worry about communication, she's master in English :P
The most impressive thing is that you can exchange the living experience with Junko when staying in the guest house, instead of paying several days stay in hotel. And will much acquaint to the culture of Kyoto!
I spent 4 nights at Junko's place and really enjoyed it.
The room is pretty big, the apartment is clean and comfortable.
It's very well located. In a fantastic city like Kyoto with so much to see and do, it's nice to be close to all transports as this is the case.
Junko is a smiling, easy going person. She made time so we could talk on the night I got there. She also had maps and lots of other relevant infos waiting for me.
I would certainly go back!
Thanks again Junko!
Our stay in Junko's house house was very nice. Junko is a very nice person, we had a great welcome and some good explanations about Kyoto. The flat is very clean and comfy and the room big enough, special thought for the talking shower :) . The aera is quiet and just 2 train stations from the center. Everything perfect.
Really, there were no negatives here. I had an amazing stay at Junko's apartment. Firstly Junko met me on arrival at Saiin bus station and then gave me a fantastic orientation to the local area and Kyoto.
I felt so welcome in her apartment and instantly felt at home. The area is filled with restaurants and Japanese Izakaya (pubs) as well as convenient connections to the rest of Kyoto and Osaka. The apartment is so comfortable and wish I could have stayed there longer.
On my last night in Kyoto Junko and I went to a local Izakaya and got to know each other a bit more. Junko is a very kind and sweet lady and I can't recommend a stay in her apartment enough. A very memorable and lovely experience.
Thank you Junko!
Junko was a fantastic host, I would not hesitate to stay there again!
