About this listing

The space

Bergstaðabakki is a beautiful 120 square meter (1292 sq. feet) luxury house in the Geysir area, only around 110 km or around 68 miles out of Reykjavík and around 10 minutes drive from the main attractions in Iceland Gullfoss and Geysir. It stands on a hill close to the main road to Gullfoss and Geysir, of ring road nr.1, and has a spectacular view over the river Tungufljót and the mountains around.

The location is very central for the main attractions in south Iceland such as Gullfoss and Geysir , Flúðir, Laugarvatn, Þingvellir, Skálholt and main services such as shops, restaurant, cafes, Pub, bank, swimming pools, spa, golf courses, horse rentals etc.

The house is bright and spacious with a nice entrance hall with large wardrobe, modern style open kitchen, dining area, sitting area in the living room, cozy fireplace, 2 bedrooms with modern tailored bulk beds, a master bedroom with a king-size bed, big wardrobes and a door out to the terrace, stylish bathroom with a shower, a TV room with a sofa bed and a laundry room with washer and dryer. The living room / dining area has very big windows so the spectacular view can be enjoyed. Around the house is a terrace with a hot tub.

Even though the house is central for the south-west Iceland and is close to the main road to Geysir and Gullfoss , it is very quiet around the house. People staying there will experience very relaxing atmosphere.

Thank you Gunnar and Margaret for the unforgettable adventure to Iceland. Your home instantly felt like it became ours. It was beautiful, centrally located, clean, and everything we were looking for. Not to mention the bed was so comfortable, just what we needed for our vacation. We hope you'll invite us back into your home on our next trip to Iceland. Thank you!

Very nice family house in the centre of the Golden Circle. Our family (3 kids under 12) had a great time at Gunnar's place. Gunnar was there to welcome us and showed us around the house. Key drop off at the nearby farm was really easy and convenient as we could just drive by on our way to Reykjavik and return the keys. We staid for 8 days and there is enough to do in the area to fill up every day. Yes for some trips we had to drive for an hour and half to get there, but even some of those road-trips where worthwhile...what a scenery! The place it self is large enough for 6 people and has a nice open kitchen and living room (pictures are accurate) We've cooked in the house every day and never felt we missed anything to prep our own food. The large windows offer a fabulous view on the mountains and river, just sitting there and staring outside, seeing Geyser in the distance and the snow peaks is astonishing. Flúðir is close by and has a small shop , which opens 7 days a week, and a Vinbúðin to get a bottle of wine or a beer. 30 minutes driving to Selfoss where you can find larger stores and restaurants. Takes some getting used to that you need to open the door in order to coole down the house. Seeing Gunnar has geothermal heating, the heating is always on. Which does well for the shower, but not so great if you like a cool bedroom. All in all we have some great memories about our first trip to Iceland and our stay at Bergstaðabakki.

Upon arrival at this beautiful Airbnb, everything went perfectly. Margaret was great at explaining the rules of the house. Very friendly & helpful. The archeticture of this home was wonderful. The views out the large picture windows were breathtaking. Everyday there was a different weathered landscape from those windows. We had many Iceland storms during our 8 day stay which we loved and felted well protected and secure in Gunnar's home. The decorating & details were lovely. The openness of each room flowed wonderfully throughout. This Airbnb should be in a magazine. We enjoyed the large open fireplace often. A nice touch was the thermal heated flooring in each room. It sure kept us comfortably warm including our feet. Each day we enjoyed an evening hot tub before our preparations for dinner. The view from the hot tub was fabulous and even more perfect when the evening storms would roll in.... The kitchen was well equipped. We enjoyed our dinner prep whilst listening to Gunnar's collection of music while making our meals. We had a good mixture of weather from sunshine to rain, wind, sleet and snow. We did have a couple clear nights and did see the auroras dancing above. We were hoping to see some arctic foxes, but were not fortunate enough. Although, we did see fox prints in the snow around the property. Gunnar stopped by one day to say hello and gave my husband a personal tour of his geothermal operation which he throughly enjoyed. I would definitely recommend this beautiful home if you are looking for the most incredible views of mountains and landscapes and pure solitary of Iceland living... Also for those who are looking for day trips to all the magnificent golden circle attractions; this location is prime. It's an experience you'll never forget! I know we won't.... We're already looking forward to coming back again. Thank you Gunnar and thank you to Margaret for everything....

The house is an amazing space - modern living in a remote landscape. We saw eagles, horses and arctic fox from the comfort of our home. Every detail from the fabulous kitchen to the hot tub had quality written all over it. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
