About This Listing
Value for money in an central but not "touristy" area.
One-bedroom 50 square meters flat/apartment, consisting of a bathroom, kitchen, a living room and bedroom.
Amenities include open wi-fi access and washing machine.
Although it is situated in a very central area of Athens, on the 5th floor, the apartment/flat offers a very nice view of the nearby hill (Strefi hill).
Having a southern direction, it receives a significant amount of sunlight from sunrise to sunset. Ideal for travelers who want to experience the famous Attica sun!
The main entrance of the building is on Alexandras avenue, one of the main roads of Athens, which could also be perceived as the 'border" between the popular Exarchia (where it is situated), Kypseli and Gizi districts of downtown Athens.
Guests will have access to all amenities in the apartment, e.g. kitchen facilities, wi-fi, washing machine and music appliances. Clean towels and sheets are provided to every guest.
Interaction with Guests
I always make sure to be in the apartment during check-in in order to welcome the guests and orientate them on both the apartment and the city through maps and guide books. Always happy recommending places according to the guests interests and questions. Guests are always welcome to join me and my friends on a night out or on a walk.
Opposite the building is one of Athens main parks, "Areos" park, ideal for walks, bicycle riding or just sitting on a bench for sunbathing. It is also a spot for many cultural events such as the "Athens Indy Free Festival" which takes place every year and still gives the opportunity to many local underground bands to present their work, as well as the annual book exhibition where publishing houses present their titles.
One of the important museums of Europe and the largest in Greece, the National Archaeological Museum, is within 5-7 minutes walking distance. 11,000 exhibits from prehistorical times to late Antiquity waiting to be discovered by any traveler interested in Ancient History and Art.
Exharchia square is within a 7-8 minutes walking distance. The famous neighborhood is, since its beginning in late 19th century Athens till present day, a student neighborhood of a rather bohemian character which offers a large variety of options:
Eating spots ranging from "souvlaki" places to vegetarian organic restaurants and from Pakistani takeaways to traditional Greek taverns.
Bars where one can listen to different kinds of music including underground electronica, alternative rock, jazz, hip-hop... and the list goes on.
Live scenes where most of the newly formed, as well as some of the well-known local bands can be seen performing.
Access to public transportation is very easy.
Just outside the building a bus and trolley bus stop can be used to go either North or, after six stops, change to "Ampelokipi" metro station which leads straight to the Airport.
Victoria underground station is also within 7 minutes walking distance from the flat where one can use the tube to go as far as the port of Piraeus and catch a ferryboat to any of the world famous Greek islands.
The regional Attica bus stop is also 5 minutes away. One can catch the bus to Cape Sounio, for example, to go swimming during the summer months.
To sum up, this place is ideal for young, culture-loving, low budget travelers, as well as for people who want to experience downtown Athens but would also love to "escape" and travel through the region.
- Please make sure you lock the door at all times. Although it is a relatively safe area, your safety as well as taking care of your belongings is important.
- Please do not put the music too loud or make noises between 10:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. as well as between 02:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., as these are considered to be "siesta hours" in Greece.
You are free to use all the amenities in the apartment: You can cook in the kitchen, put laundry, read any of the books or listen to any of the cd's and vinyl records. Wi-fi is open 24/7. Make yourself at home!
From Jun 1 - Aug 31, 2015 the minimum stay is 2 nights.
Our stay at Doros' apartment in Athens was amazing! Although our flight arrived very late at night, Doros was still willing to check us in to the apartment and get us oriented. He sent us perfect directions from the airport, and when we got to his place he gave us several great recommendations for our short stay in Athens.
The apartment is old but very clean and comfortable. And it's in a great area for walking/public transport to all monuments and restaurants. It's really nice to eat breakfast on the deck as well!
The best part of our stay was seeing Doros' band play live show. I recommend this apartment and Doros to friends and family and wouldn't hesitate to come back to Athens and stay here again. We found a new friend in Doros!
Thank you for the beers and cherries!
Doros was very welcoming and he was very thorough with his explanation of the house. The apartment is very clean and easy to navigate to find marketplaces and food. A walk to the acropolis is also not very far. We had a wonderful experience staying here!
Hello! Doros was there when we arrived and explained really well what to do in the city! The appartment was the same as on the pictures and really well located (30 minutes by foot from the center) and less by bus :)
We had an incredible time. The apartment is wonderful, nicely located, and Doros was great, incredible hospitable, very helpful, and really ensured a fantastic time in Athens.
Doros is very kind, he really makes you feel at home. His flat has everything you need and it is in a very good position to reach the city centre. It is in a nice building, not far from a minimarket, a bakery and the bus stop is just out of the door.
It has been a wonderful experience!
My friend and I stayed at this place for three nights and had an amazing experience. Doros was so kind and helpful, especially when we had an unfortunate lost item occur on our way to the apartment. He stayed with us and helped us work it out and we are so grateful! The apartment had everything we needed and a really cute balcony. Also we ran in the park across the street every morning which was very convenient. Highly recommend!

About the Host, Elpidoforos
Hi , my name is Elpidoforos which can be translated from Greek as "the one who bares hope. I actually find it difficult to live up to the meaning of my name, but I really am doing my best. Most people just call me Doros for short - which, by the way, means "gift" or "present" in Greek.
I was brought up in Athens and I have lived here, practically all my life. My studies in Sociology and Marketing, as well as my previous work experience - which included direct sales - provided me with a thorough understanding of social behavior and how this is affected by cultural and other factors.
I have been working as a travel agent for the past seven years, mainly as an outgoing tour operator for Middle East countries - til 2011 when riots broke out in Syria, which was our main destination. I've been to Syria, Jordan and Lebanon more that 10 times as a tour leader and this was, without doubt a very important experience in my life.
My hobbies include playing bass in a garage rock band, going to the movies and to the theatre and going to concerts.
One of the things I enjoy most in life is meeting people from different countries and cultural backrounds. This is one of the reasons why I singed up to Airbnb.
I strongly believe that I can relate to very different types of people and help them experience Greek hospitality in a more contemporary fashion.
I am really looking forward to meeting as many travelers as I can and will do my best to be the best host I can be.
