A beautifully furnished self-contained annex in the garden of our old thatched home. Originally built as a victorian laundry, the accommodation has been lovingly converted, to comprise of a large bedroom, equipped kitchenette-dressing area, and bathroom with shower, fluffy towels and selection of toiletries. The furnishings are classic traditional and unfussy, with oak cabinetry, a cafe table and pair of armchairs, and antique dresser, and many designer details. The curtains are thick and warm, so a good rest is assured.
The cottage has wi-fi, flat screen tv and dvd with freesat, and an extensive library of films, books, OS maps and music is available for your use. We are very familiar with the area, so can help with journey planning and finding luscious pubs Also, a picnic hamper, rug, chairs and sun umbrella are available for days out.
We have furnished the property with probably the most sumptuous bed in Dorset, a VSpring with feather topper and squidgy feather pillows and duvet layers in 600 thread count luxurious linens, and soft throws. Equally cosy hypoallergenic bedding is available upon request. There is plenty of room for a travel bed- cot, if you are travelling with your young child.
We live away from the main road in a peaceful central village location with trees and relaxing cottage garden to enjoy, near the church and down the lane from village green and hall. There is ample space to park your car off-road.
Pets are welcome by prior consent. Also, please be mindful of ours, as we have 2 dogs, a rather huge rabbit, who thinks he runs the homestead, and a cat who knows he does. They are very friendly, are never in cottage and can be kept in the main home as you may need.
Tea, coffee, and nibbles will be provided. A continental breakfast, including selection of fresh breads and fruits, will be available in your room, or optionally a full English or American is available upon request, in your room or the dining room.
Little extras can be arranged, such as vase of flowers or bubbly to mark an occasion upon arrival, so please enquire.
Durweston is a lovely Dorset village by the River Stour, surrounded by picturesque rolling hills, a designated area of "outstanding natural beauty", wonderful for rambling and outdoor pursuits. Blandford, Shaftesbury, and Sturminster Newton are nearby for amenities, farmers market and boutique shopping. Within easy reach is the magnificent Dorset Jurassic coast, the long stretches of sandy beaches of Poole and Bournemouth and the cathedral city of Salisbury. Beautiful Bath is a bit further, and even London is accessible by train. So, various day journeys and sightseeing can be enjoyed...
I'm stuck at where to begin describing our stay. After a long, understaffed day at work and three train delays, we arrived shattered in Durweston. Our moods changed immediately - for the better. Lisa met us at the gate despite our unforeseen late arrival, and was wonderfully enthusiastic and welcoming. She showed us to the cottage annex and for the next quarter of an hour my girlfriend and I went around the place wowing and gasping at the tasteful, authentic interior design and the stocked fridge/cupboards (delicious cheeses, yoghurts, chocolate, breads and booze!). We then met the rest of the charming family - the girls are hilarious and vibrant and Steve has all the hallmarks of a man who thoroughly enjoys life. The surrounding area needs no elaboration, the Blackmore Vale is truly breathtaking and a stroll through induces nothing short of euphoria - especially when it is bathing in sunlight. There is a nearby pub, which is a scenic walk away, whose food is excellent and whose drink is very well priced. We travelled back to reality after having been cooked American pancakes - probably the best I've ever had. As can probably be inferred from this saccharine review, we have every intention of returning, and, to end on the most trite of notes, the worst thing about the weekend was leaving.
She is a lovely host and the annexe is impeccably decorated and incredibly homely. The toiletries were so fabulous. The well-stocked fridge and tea tray were laden with delicious goodies. The cooked breakfast especially the pancakes with maple syrup was fantastic. It was so peaceful and being woken up by church bells and birdsong is special! We will definitely be back for a longer stay.
Our stay at Lisa and Steve's Cottage Annex was absolutely perfect! We've always had great experiences on Air BnB but this trip was truly exceptional!
We were greeted by Steve who was very enthusiastic and warming, despite our rather late due the awful wind and torrential rain. He met us at the car with a light in hand and escorted us towards this delightful self contained annex. Once inside the annex it was absolutely lovely and warm, full of little extras, which we were not expecting and made our stay extra comfortable.
Despite the horrific winds outside, it was so peaceful and relaxing in the annex. In the morning we were greeted by Lisa with the perfect start to our day, a large breakfast! The homemade buttermilk pancakes where faultless. After breakfast we got speaking to Lisa who was charming and full of life, she told us about loads of things to get us busy during the day, including the lovely Kingston Lacy which is a grand estate with beautiful gardens. We took her advice and drove to Kingston Lacy during the day and had a very pleasant walk around the grounds.
We could not fault are stay with Lisa, Steve and the family (including the cute pet bunny hopping around the garden). The perfect hosts for a perfect countryside getaway!
Lovely romantic self contained annexe, fridge full of treats and a generous relaxed host, happy to let us go explore under our own steam. I couldn't ask for more! Wholly agree with all previous good comments. I definitely recommend it.
Fabulous! We went to lisa's cottage on honeymoon and stayed for three nights, it was absoutely fantastic. Lisa was a brilliant host and stocked the fridge with lots of very welcome treats. Although the weather was a bit wet, the cottage is in a great location for good pubs and pretty Dorset villages. One of our highlights was having delicious home made pancakes with Lisa and her family.
Lisa's gorgeous annex was the perfect getaway! Durweston is a beautiful quiet spot, surrounded by countryside. A very romantic setting, especially at night time with the amazing stars and owls hooting in the garden. We were here for NYE, and the only downside to our stay was that it had rained so much, we couldn't walk to the local pub to celebrate... then in comes Lisa's wonderful friendly service - she only offered to drop and pick us up from our night out! I cannot fault our stay in any way. The annex is full of cute little surprises, from the fancy bed to the delicious snacks filling up the fridge, the champagne sneaked in the fridge for our arrival and the privacy we were given to lie in until lunchtime and check out late on New Years Day.
Thanks so much Lisa & Steve - we would recommend you to anyone & everyone! :)
Lisa and her family are incredibly nice people and their home is awfully beautiful. We had a great pancake breakfast with them, then went to have a lovely walk at the beach with the dad and one of the lovely girls, they helped us a lot with getting to town and other places, as we did not have a car, thanks for all this and all the best. Oh and the annex is truly lovely, a incredibly comfortable bed and everything you need in the kitchen.
Great host and wonderful place to stay.
This cottage is ideal for couples wanting a little luxury and some privacy and comes highly recommended by us.
The bed is beautifully comfortable, the towels nice and fluffy and the well equipped kitchen full of unexpected treats in the way of food and drink. There is a supply of DVDs if you want to stay in, maps to help plan walks and info on what to see and where to eat locally.
Lisa is a generous, helpful host who has thought of everything
Being greeted by a giant bunny rabbit in the amazing garden was the perfect welcome to this cozy cottage stay. We loved the picturesque setting and beautiful countryside of this part of Dorset. Communication with the host was smooth and reliable and we felt most welcome and looked after with an impressive selection of treats and snacks in the cottage not to mention Lisa's wonderful breakfast pancakes. Highly recommend!
