  • The space was perfect for our extended weekend stay. Edwin was great and very accommodating when we checked in. The subway and bus were very accessible and we found some great spots in the area for our morning coffee. The best part had to be the location to Central Park. Definitely would stay in one of Charlie's places again!

  • We had a great time staying at Charlie's! The Studio is really beautiful, situated towards the back of the building, overlooking a green space - very pleasant. It is fully equipped making it comfortable for longer stays (we stayed 3 weeks). Charlie and Edwin (who is taking care of the apartment) are quick to respond, available and ready to help, but never intrusive. The neighbourhood is quiet and safe and the building is located close to two subway stations and all sorts of deli's, super markets, restaurants etc. One thing to note (nothing to do with Charlie though): the walls are paper thin - if you are sensitive to noise by next-door neighbours, you may want to bring a pair of earplugs, just in case. Charlie, Edwin, thank you again for the hospitality and helping make our stay such a memorable experience! We would definitely stay here again!

  • Hi, we had a great time staying in the apartment in Harlem. Great apartment at a wonderful spot in Harlem, close to the subway and Central Park.
Especially loved the neighbourhood and neighbours hanging on the street, and the nice deli's and jazz club just around the corner ... Edwin, thnx for the care and help you gave us!

  • We had an exceptional experience with our host Charlie. Charlie was quick to respond to my initial inquiry and was terrific about accommodating subsequent changes to our reservation. We actually ended up staying in three of Charlie's units (2R, 3R, and 4R) as we were traveling with family for a college graduation and it was close to the Metro North Line. The units were attractive, clean, and comfortable. And for the price point, it was an exceptional value. It was also our first time staying in Harlem and we loved it. The street was quiet, as were the units. Transportation options were convenient and plentiful. Many very good restaurants were in easy walking distance and the architecture found in the Mount Morris Park Historic District is worth a visit alone. Charlie also has the excellent assistance of Edwin, who met us on our arrival and showed us to our units. Edwin was great about supplying us with extra towels and bedding, reminding us of our checkout time, and offering a place to stow bags on our last day before heading to the airport for an afternoon flight. We had an all around terrific stay and would definitely do it again.

  • Charlie is very prompt in communicating and approved my request in less than a hour. He gave very good directions and Edwin is an awesome personable caretaker. The neighborhood was nice, quiet and very walkable with grocery stores, pharmacies and subway/bus stations all close by.

The entire space was neat and I actually liked the privacy of the rear facing windows. Edwin was really helpful without hovering or anything which was cool. There was a small hiccup where I missed a call from Edwin later in the evening so he could pick up an air mattress for another guest, and that really wasn't even an inconvenience -the whole weekend I was completely able to relax and settle into the space. The host even had the couch (which already was in very good condition) replaced with a newer one while I was out Saturday. Wonderful, well maintained and convenient place to stay, definitely would recommend to anyone staying in the city.

  • Charlie responded very quickly to my request and everything was set-up easily. From our conversation, I felt like Charlie was readily available, if needed.

The apartment was quite nice. The walls are a bit thin, but the other residents aren't loud. It had everything you need and it's close enough to take a short walk over to the Columbia University campus.

  • I am giving this rental 3 stars but with just a little TLC and attention to detail this could easily be a 5 star location. The neighborhood was lovely and just a short walk to the subway. The bed was very comfortable but they could invest in some better pillows. The kitchen is not stocked to be able to do any serious cooking. There was only one coffee cup for the two of us. Additionally, why not get a silverware tray to put the silverware in rather than all mixed together like a junk drawer? There were two lamps in the apartment and neither one had a light bulb in them. Two very thin towels and washcloths for the two of us for 3 nights was minimal at best. These are very easy upgrades that could have a big impact on future renters. Edwin greeted us and even brought us a bag of ice. (why not put some ice cube trays in the freezer). I use airbnb a lot and it really is the little things that make a big difference.

    Response from Charlie:

I checked the apartment myself and saw the extra coffee mugs, the ice cube tray and while there was extra silverware in a drawer there was a metal canister to hold it all together on top of the countertop also. The pillows are new, so maybe this guest thought they were too firm? The kitchen has the microwave, pots, pans, toaster, coffee maker and is exactly as pictured. Everybody seems to really love it for the week or two they stay. New windows, new heating boiler, new sofa bed, are all being delivered soon. We have over 250 5 star reviews and while we're not a hotel, we try to pay attention to all the little details as best we can. Edwin's there the help whether it's for extra towels or directions to the great breakfast cafe down the street! You'll love it !

  • We stayed at Charlie's apartment (2 adults and a child of 12), and really enjoyed our stay. What we saw, was what we got - nice!
The bed was very comfortable, the air mattress provided was big and also surprisingly comfortable.
The bathroom has a bathtub (also nice!), and we had access to washer/dryer in the basement.
Edwin, the caretaker, was extremely friendly and helpful, and made us feel very welcome, and was easy to contact, if needed. Charlie was fast to reply on email, friendly and positive throughout.
The kitchen was fine for breakfast, with a nice fridge/freezer, but not really equipped for bigger meals (utensils, dishcloth).
The house is old, the apartment is cosy and comfortable.
The street was nice and quiet, the neighborhood friendly.
    Transportation and shopping nearby.
The only drawback would be paperwalls: if you have loud neighbors, you will hear them!
Other than that: we really loved staying there, and yes, we would happily stay there again!

  • Very cosy and warm apartment, which is exactly as it is advertised in the pictures. Everything you may need is provided in the apartment.

The location is perfect, in a nice neighbourhood close to several subway stations and grocery stores.

To sum up: we really enjoyed our stay!

  • It was a lovely apartment, very warm, clean and cosy. The building is very old but it is a safe neighbourhood and so conveniently located with a Rite Aid that's open 24/7 and a supermarket across the road t that's open till midnight. And Charlie's caretaker, Edwin was fantastic, even helped us with our bags. Every little comfort was provided. Thank you so much for an awesome stay, Charlie!!
