About this listing
This house is like being in the country—but very close to all the cool/fun stuff in Echo Park. It has has tons of charm, and lots of light.
The house was recently featured in the New York Times Home & Garden section.
Sit on the patio and have a glass of wine, enjoy the view of the Hollywood sign (and the ocean if theres no smog), grab a lemon, lime, grapefruit or orange off one of the trees, pick some herbs from the garden, grill something on the bbq and enjoy the splendor of this renovated 1909 cottage!
The house is used only for Airbnb rental, I don't live in it - so there's none of my personal stuff (which I sometimes find a little weird when I stay in other people's homes!)
The master bedroom has a ridiculously comfortable pillow-top queen bed and A/C.
The living room has a newly installed and brand new A/C unit.
The second bedroom has an incredible view of the Elysian Valley, and comes with 2 twin beds (or they can be pushed together to bed a king bed).
Sheets, towels, dishes, cookware and all necessary odds and ends supplied. Closet and dresser space also available to hang and put stuff.
The kitchen with original tile from the 20's and a refurbished O'Keefe & Merritt stove has all the necessities - fridge, toaster, coffee maker and good cookware.
Free wifi, flatscreen HDTV, cable, Apple TV and DVD in living room.
The house is 1 mile from Sunset Blvd. a 15-min walk to Elysian Park (home of Dodger Stadium), and there are lots of great restaurants, shops, bars and cafes nearby including The Fix, Sage, Mohawk Bend, Elf, Taix, Two Boots Pizza, and The Echo.
Downtown is 5 minutes away by car, and the 2, 5, 101 and 110 freeways are all very close. Burbank is 15 mins, and against rush hour traffic.
I live on the property in the house next door and am available for any questions about where to go or what to do in the neighborhood. My dog, Whisky (small, 14 pounds, adorable), is on hand to make your stay all the more pleasant!
Pet friendly with prior approval.
Access to the front patio and garden (with fresh herbs and vegetables), access to any of the fruit trees (lime, lemon, grapefruit, persimmon, kumquat, orange - all seasonal).
Interaction with Guests
I'm usually around and available for questions and always glad to help advise on places to eat, or things to do. Sometimes I share a glass of wine with guests, other times I just stay out of their hair if they want privacy!
Echo Park is a very unexpected LA neighborhood - lots of hills (including Baxter, the steepest street in LA) and great views. It's very unlike the stereotype of LA (Sunset Strip) and yet it's very close to great cafes, restaurants and night life.
Uber is the best way to get around if you don't drive. Use my promo code: y9fd9 and get $20 off your first ride!
Absolutely no smoking inside, but smoke all you want on the patio (just please ash in an ashtray, and make sure butts are extinguished -- LA is high fire danger area).
Well-behaved and dog-friendly dogs are generally allowed, pending approval, and additional $50 cleaning fee.
Dan's place is exceptional! Peaceful, sunny, and private with a great patio and garden, we spent more time relaxing outside, enjoying the great weather and views, than anywhere else. This is not to say that the guesthouse itself is anything to escape from: inside, the place is spacious, clean, and well furnished with comfortable beds, a great kitchen, and ample areas for eating, working, or relaxing. The glass french doors look out into the garden and beyond to great views of the Hollywood Hills and Griffith Park. Dan was excellent at communicating prior to our visit and was available throughout our stay in case of any questions or issues, though there were none. He also sent detailed instructions on how to gain access to the house as well as a guide to the neighborhood with some of his favorite restaurants, shops, and activities. This is our new go-to place whenever we visit Los Angeles, and I would definitely recommend it to others as well!
Dan's echo park bungalow was clean, well-maintained and provided all that we needed, making our stay delightful. The front doors open up to a lovely landscaped front yard that still feels private, since the bungalow is set back from the street. Even though Dan was away on a trip during our stay, he managed to respond quickly to a few questions we had. He provides clear, detailed instructions for guests along with a well-curated guide to the neighborhood and LA. His thoughtfulness surpassed whatever we expected. The pictures do not misrepresent the property. We had a lovely experience there.
Dan's home is outstanding. The location is a great one for exploring some of L.A.'s best neighborhoods, and the recommendations that Dan sent for restaurants and activities was extremely helpful. Highly recommended!
Dan's place couldn't have been better. It's spacious, very clean and tastefully decorated, the setting is idyllic with great views and a mockingbird was even nesting in the bougainvillea just outside. Echo park is a great neighbourhood with lots of cool things to do. Dan was warm and welcoming and full of great recommendations. I doubt there's a better place to stay in LA.
Dan's place was perfect. The house is a great size, really comfortable, clean and relaxed, so much nicer than staying a hotel. The neighbourhood is very cool and laid back, the best escape from the busier bits of the city, and Dan's place is in an amazing location, with beautiful views from the terrace but still walkable to shops, coffee and parks. Thank you Dan!
Dan's place was amazing and felt like a perfect home while I was in LA for work for 2 weeks. You couldn't pick a more beautiful setting - even doing work at the picnic table on the patio felt like a vacation. The neighborhood is very quiet and private but every convenience or entertainment experience is a quick drive away. The apartment itself was clean and comfortable. And I loved having Whisky the dog come over and sniff around when I was home!
We stayed with Dan and Whisky, his awesome dog, for three days and we totally enjoyed the experience. We loved the house and Dan was the best host, he offered help and tips 100% of the time. Don´t miss a lovely sunset in LA :)
