This house is like being in the country—but very close to all the cool/fun stuff in Echo Park. It has has tons of charm, and lots of light.
The house was recently featured in the New York Times Home & Garden section.
Sit on the patio and have a glass of wine, enjoy the view of the Hollywood sign (and the ocean if theres no smog), grab a lemon, lime, grapefruit or orange off one of the trees, pick some herbs from the garden, grill something on the bbq and enjoy the splendor of this renovated 1909 cottage!
The house is used only for Airbnb rental, I don't live in it - so there's none of my personal stuff (which I sometimes find a little weird when I stay in other people's homes!)
The master bedroom has a ridiculously comfortable pillow-top queen bed and A/C.
The living room has a newly installed and brand new A/C unit.
The second bedroom has an incredible view of the Elysian Valley, and comes with 2 twin beds (or they can be pushed together to bed a king bed).
Sheets, towels, dishes, cookware and all necessary odds and ends supplied. Closet and dresser space also available to hang and put stuff.
The kitchen with original tile from the 20's and a refurbished O'Keefe & Merritt stove has all the necessities - fridge, toaster, coffee maker and good cookware.
Free wifi, flatscreen HDTV, cable, Apple TV and DVD in living room.
The house is 1 mile from Sunset Blvd. a 15-min walk to Elysian Park (home of Dodger Stadium), and there are lots of great restaurants, shops, bars and cafes nearby including The Fix, Sage, Mohawk Bend, Elf, Taix, Two Boots Pizza, and The Echo.
Downtown is 5 minutes away by car, and the 2, 5, 101 and 110 freeways are all very close. Burbank is 15 mins, and against rush hour traffic.
I live on the property in the house next door and am available for any questions about where to go or what to do in the neighborhood. My dog, Whisky (small, 14 pounds, adorable), is on hand to make your stay all the more pleasant!
Pet friendly with prior approval.
Access to the front patio and garden (with fresh herbs and vegetables), access to any of the fruit trees (lime, lemon, grapefruit, persimmon, kumquat, orange - all seasonal).
Interaction with Guests
I'm usually around and available for questions and always glad to help advise on places to eat, or things to do. Sometimes I share a glass of wine with guests, other times I just stay out of their hair if they want privacy!
Echo Park is a very unexpected LA neighborhood - lots of hills (including Baxter, the steepest street in LA) and great views. It's very unlike the stereotype of LA (Sunset Strip) and yet it's very close to great cafes, restaurants and night life.
Uber is the best way to get around if you don't drive. Use my promo code: y9fd9 and get $20 off your first ride!
Absolutely no smoking inside, but smoke all you want on the patio (just please ash in an ashtray, and make sure butts are extinguished -- LA is high fire danger area).
Well-behaved and dog-friendly dogs are generally allowed, pending approval, and additional $50 cleaning fee.
We've been staying at a lot of airbnbs lately and this one takes the cake! It was a relief to arrive to a place that was simply chic, not shabby chic. The minimal furnishings were easy on the eyes, and the retro stove was a big hit. It suited our party of 4 perfectly and comfortably. There was plenty of breathing room… even the air seemed fresher up on the hill. An artist or writer could get a lot done there, what with all the natural light and minimal distractions. It was a great place to get away from it all… but this is Los Angeles, so why would you want to?!
This house is amazing! Dan is a sweetheart and very accommodating. The place was immaculate, quiet and very tasteful. We will definitely come back!! Xox
Dan's house was perfect for our stay. The House was clean, the beds were comfy, and the location was awesome. Dan made it super easy to get in whenever we needed during the check in process. We will be staying again during our next visit to LA.
Dan was great! Prompt easy and so nice! His place is in our favorite neighborhood in LA and the views are really outstanding. It's very well suited for airbnb - felt like a rental place in a GOOD way (not like we were in someone's stuff but like our own place!) He has coded locks which made check in and out SO easy. Loved it! Thanks Dan!
It is really a great stay. My parents really enjoy the view there. But I am really sorry that we left a little late and cause some inconvenience to the next guests. I will definitely recommend everyone to stay at this place!
My husband and I just returned from our second stay at Dan's place and it was just as awesome as the first time. The home is very spacious, clean, and minimal in a good way (ie: not cluttered with someone's stuff). The fireplace was great for the chillier drop in temperature at night. The most amazing part is the yard and Dan's meticulous garden. Very serene and packed with beautiful native plants, trees, and flowers. It is also quite private, even with his larger adjoining home nearby so you never feel you are disturbing him. He even showed us all the herbs in his garden and let us take a bunch for our Thanksgiving meal. The location is perfect--nice area for walks and a quick drive or longer walk to coffee shops, grocery, and restaurants. Totally affordable for all you get and leaps and bounds better than staying at a hotel. Oh and his sweet, mellow dog whiskey is an added bonus. Also, Dan is very approachable if you have any questions. Highly recommended and looking forward to our next stay!
Amazing place to stay in Echo Park! Perfectly located on a quiet street with great views of the city, the house is very clean, bright, comfortable and beautifully decorated. Parking has never been an issue since there is no street cleaning and always room available in front of the house. Dan is a wonderful host and very easy to communicate with. I really hope to get a chance to stay here again!

I've been hosting on Airbnb for over a year and love it. I know how to respect a place as I'd want my place respected. I'm clean and courteous!
