Sorry no arrivals after 6 pm
When we arrived, Anita showed us to our cottage. At first everything seemed okay, we left our stuff there and went to the beach. When we came back, we started noticing that the cottage wasn't very clean, there was dirt in the corners and unfortunetely there was ALOT of bugs. Yes it's Costa Rica, but this was just too much, because they were everywhere we looked (we had previously stayed in an apartment in the jungle and there was less insects). We then noticed there were holes in the screens. We only stayed one night and decided to cancel the rest of our reservation. Anita was understanding and refunded us for the 3 nights we didn't stay. She did say the screens were changed a week prior to our stay but it was hard to believe given everything that had happened. Maybe some of them were. Anyway, the place was a disapointment. It was close to Manuel Antonio, but you had to walk a while to the bus stop. And the beach...Bad idea to walk over there in sandals, if you will, bring good shoes because it is a Long steep walk.
We spent several days with Anita at the Casa Buena Vista. She is a very charming, helpful host. The cottage was just as we expected, comfortable, but not fancy. The view from the Teak House veranda was just fantastic. What a wonderful way to end a busy day!
We enjoyed seeing three kinds of monkeys and a variety of birds, butterflies, etc. I would love to return one day.
My only word of caution is that you must be able to handle stairs to stay at Anita's, but that is true of many places in Manuel Antonio and Costa Rica, for that matter.
By the way, we were charmed by the bats. We probably bothered them more than they bothered us.
We spent 4 nights in the bungalow at Casa Buenavista. We enjoyed the teak house to read in the evenings and just to relax. Breakfast was very pleasant and we were able to talk with Anita. The bungalow was nice because it was isolated and quiet. It has a huge potential but it is in need of some work (screens need to be changed) and a good proper cleaning. It might be better to get the rooms with AC since it was very hot and humid in April and even with fans it didn't do much. We had a hard time sleeping. Beach is further then expected down a long steep unpaved road. Bring some shoes!
The Casa Buena Vista is in a spectacular location high over the town, with views of the Pacific. Anita was very accommodating and we were delighted to get acquainted with her over breakfast. Very nice property and a bargain, to boot.
Our stay at Anita's was great! Super location, great price, very warm and friendly atmosphere. It is a great location to walk to the beach or walk up to 'town' with restaurants, shops and nightlife. The place is very quiet and is surrounded by tons of nature and wildlife. Breakfast was great and Anita and Nuria were warm hosts. We certainly would stay again and highly recommend this very affordable option to others traveling to MA.
We had a beautiful stay at the cottage. Everything was really clean. There is also a little kitchen, which is nice to use.
Anita was always there, when we had questions or just for a smalltalk either. You can walk to the beach in ca. 10 minutes. There, you will find a good place for surfing. If you like the sound of nature and watch animals, it's THE place to be. I recommend this cottage to everybody, you're going to have good times (and an amazing view to the ocean).
I couldn't have asked for a better place. Anita was warm and friendly and provided us with everything we needed. Her breakfasts and chats were a great way to start the day! She was knowledgeable about the different activities available to us in the area and even booked a tour for us. The cottage was absolutely lovely and well taken care of. As a bonus, there was hot water which is something we didn't have much of elsewhere. Thanks for everything Anita!

About the Host, Anita
I discover Manuel Antonio 38 years ago after graduating the University of California in Berkeley. Don Melton and myself first did a research project in the National Park and adjoining beaches and decided to make Punta Quepos our home. Don was the local historian and gave educational talks for many groups including National Geografic. We were among the founders of the first Chamber of Tourism in Manue Antonio, founders of ASCONA (Quepos first conservation organization), and have continued to be active in civic and conservations groups to date. I am currently working with a group to establish an animal shelter here in our (website hidden) We worked for many years on the problem of drownings (see page 7). I ran my gift shop LA BUENA NOTA for many years and because of my extensive knowledge of Costa Rica, I can answer most questions about our area and some advice about other tourist destinations in Costa Rica.
