A cozy room in a lovely house in the best part of NE Portland? Filled with books, tea, and nice people? What more could you *possibly* want?
This great private room is located within a quiet home on a residential street. I live half a block from the lovely Kennedy School, home to restaurants, bars, a movie theater, and outdoor soaking pool. Also, just a half block away, is a New Seasons, a wonderful local place to buy all the groceries you need. It even has a deli. Just a short walk will put you on Alberta, with restaurants (breakfast lunch & dinner), bars, co-op, coffee & tea, food carts, and art galleries. There are several lovely parks within walking distance that will provide you with places to jog or relax.
And did I mention: high speed internet!
My home is accessible by 4 bus lines: seventy, seventy-two, seventy-five, & seventeen (which will easily get you to downtown, North Portland, and South East). I also live very close to the airport, and it is quite easy to make that trip with public transport. There is ample and easy on-street parking, as well as a safe place to put your bikes.
Within the house you'll also have access to a full kitchen, bathroom with tub and shower, & living room with a dining table. The house itself is filled with art, musical instruments, books, games, & other rad stuff. I also have a wonderful backyard with a deck, fire pit, many garden boxes filled with seasonal veggies, & fruit trees/plants (grapes, cherries, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, marionberries).
Your rented room is furnished with a reading chair, a closet, and an actual bed. A full sized bed! You are also welcome to use wi-fi and laundry (I have a clothesline for when the weather is nice). There's even a drum set or two in the basement. :D
My name is Nate. I am a preschool teacher. I love to read, cook, hike, and play games. I am a fun loving, creative, easy going, understanding & welcoming guy. I love showing people around, and having adventures. I look forward to your stay!
Feeling at home is very important. So allow me to tell you about a few of the house rules:
-Dishes are to be cleaned promptly
-If you make a mess, clean up after yourself
-Mellow after 10pm
-Doors locked at night
-Lights off when not in use
-Be nice & have fun
-No drugs in the house
-Sorry, but no pets.
We had a great experience staying with Nate and Ingrid.
First of all, the reason for our visit was unfortunately really intense; my brother suddenly passed away and we needed to stay in Portland with just 2 days notice to attend services. I would totally understand why anyone would actually say 'no' under the circumstances, just in case things got awkward or uncomfortable for the host. But Nate and Ingrid were kind and incredibly respectful of our privacy without ever calling out anything really obviously. We had no reason whatsoever to feel we were being intrusive or unwelcome.
Their house is cozy, clean, perfectly laid out... and great for anyone who loves to cook and really get into their food (as we do). Having a very active kitchen ourselves, I was able to find everything exactly where it "should" be, ha ha! - it was like staying at an old friend's house. We got to chat with both of them just a little bit, as they were either working or we were with family. But I would love to visit again and get to know them both more. A welcoming, "very Portland" couple indeed.
We couldn't have asked for better even under happier circumstances, let alone something like this. Seriously, anyone who would open their home to strangers in town for a funeral must have hearts of gold. I am very thankful for their kindness.
My stay in the Blue Room at the Duke residence was relaxing, carefree, and thoroughly enjoyable. I found the hosts to be laid back, friendly, knowledgeable of the Portland area, and a real pleasure to deal with. This residence is a very charming craftsman style home that is wonderfully decorated and very cozy. The Blue room was just what I was looking for: quiet, clean, and accessible 24 hours a day. You can stop looking for a place right now- this is the one you want to rent.
I had been in the house for a short time and I miss it then in the airport , Meantimes I do think Nate is in very responsible and welcoming life style. They are very friendly and knowledgeable, I like the way he treated to me. I really love him and his beautiful wife Ingrid, I got the luck also talk to her brother in law Eli, He is really a Dr. of everything, He could get you solutions of any problems, and very friendly, I appreciated for their optimized space between the people. It kept me warm , safety , and feel staying in my home. Definitely, I will have the same choice in my next return to the great Country.
It was such a pleasure to stay at Nate's house. He and Ingrid were incredibly welcoming hosts, really responsive and helpful, fun to talk to and gave us plenty of tipps where to eat, drink and stroll around. Their house is a rare treasure: Beautifully furnished, calm, clean, with a lovely backyard. Plus in walking distance to coffee shops, bars, boutiques & Albertra Street.
We had a great time and would definately stay there again! Highly recommended.
I had an enjoyable time in NE Portland and wish I would have been around more to talk with Nate, Eli and Ingrid. The three of them were very welcoming and interesting to talk to. Communication with Nate was always quick and thorough. I appreciated his interest and questions before I booked--the sign of a great host!
The room itself was perfect for my two week stay. The bed was comfortable and the desk afforded a great place to work. The rest of the house is kept very clean and has a lot of interesting flair to it. It's within easy walk of Alberta Street, including bars, restaurants and coffee shops. Recommended!
Easy access to public transportation, comfortable room, knowledgeable and friendly host, and a great city. Definitely coming back the next I am in back in Portland.
Nate and his wife Ingrid were excellent hosts, happy to give us info or directions when we needed them and happy to be hands off when we were fine going about with our own plans. We had some enjoyable conversations.
Their home is quiet, orderly and filled with homey and very aesthetic touches. Our double bed room was not large but comfortable, and sharing the bathroom was no problem. I'd certainly recommend them to friends.
