  • On the first day of arrival to Hanoi, we were greeted by warm and helpful staff in Especen Hotel. I want to express my greatest gratitude and appreciation towards their hospitality. In terms of accommodation, room is tidy, clean and bed sheets are fresh. We were even surprised with the making up of room service everyday. With impeccable services provided, we felt really comfortable throughout the stay.
By far, this is one of the most homely budget hotel I have ever stayed. Kudos!

  • The people at the hotel seem honest and helpful ;the best rooms are on the other side and are not offered until asked. sOMETHING STRANGE HAPPENED . i ASKED FOR A TAXI TO THE AIRPORT AND WAS ASKED for pre payment; I declined . On the way to the airport the driver began to moan in pain and said he could go no futher; he then called another taxi which then drove me aroun and around and then demanded a large some of money. I do not kow if the whole thing was a set up and whether the hotel was complicit.

  • When we arrived at the hotel we were upgraded to a family room having had booked a twin room reservation. We was not impress with the state of the bathroom in the family room. The hotel quickly moved us to a superior double room (room 200) which was in the newer building as per our request. This was more to our satisfaction and the rest if the stay was great. The hotel is situated in a nice area with lots of food stalls and restaurant to eat. Lovely receptionists every day who offered us swift assstance whenever it was required. There was one guy especially, didnt catch his name ( shorter of the 2) who was so helpful all the time and his customer service was superb. I will definitely stay here again.

About
Hello ! My name is Tran Hoai Thanh! I was born in Ha Long city & now I live in Hanoi, Vietnam. I work for Government in day time. Hotel & travel is my home business. Since 1990s, my father open the first mini hotel in Hanoi named Especen hotel in order to have place to relax with his friends in gamble :). My daddy die in 2003 and I continue to run Especen hotel then. Now I own both Especen hotel & Hanoi Hibiscus hotel. Both of them are located in the central of Hanoi old street quarter, It is just a stone’s throw from St. Joseph's Church (Cathedral) on quiet Tho Xuong street. This convenient location allows you to be just a 5 minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, Vietnam Airlines booking office & Quang Trung bus stop (for service to Noi Bai International airport). You can get to all the famous travel points, restaurants (all European, Asia and famous traditional Vietnamese restaurants), craft shops, pubs and art galleries,... as soon as you step on to the main road. My Especen hotel was listed on almost famous travel guide books: Lonely Planet, Petit Futé, Rough guide, Michellin, Insight guide, John Benjamin,... as the best budget hotel in Hanoi for over 20 years. The Petit Futé guidebook describes my Especen hotel as: "A small hotel nestled in the maze of streets that surround the Cathedral. Wake to the sound of bells and a panoramic view of Hanoi rooftops ocher" (Petit hôtel niché dans le lacis des ruelles qui enserrent la cathédrale. Réveil au son des cloches et vue panoramique sur les toits ocre de Hanoi). In an adventure book name "The House on Dream Street: Memoir of an American Woman in Vietnam" the writer said that: "... I caught the familiar sounds of "Green Bamboo;" "Especen," and "Darling Café;" Hanoi's most well known hubs for low-budget travelers. My Especen hotel also is a favor hotel of many photographers, Vietnamese singers & artist. Doing business in hotel & travel is my hobbies, I will make my hotel to be a great hotel as a present to my dad.
