Desert Casa was amazing!!! We went to joshua tree for the park but didn't want to leave the house! Once we finally got ourselves out of the pool....the park was amazingly close and the backyard view feels like you're right in the middle of a park hike anyway. Christa was very kind, accomadating and responsive (I probably texted her a million times...) we will definitely be back! xx
Christa and Marks Joshua treat home is a real retreat. Beautiful modern bedrooms, amazing pool and jacuzzi that were the perfect temp for summer weather and amenities that made you feel like your were visiting a really awesome friends vacation house.
We had an amazing and memorable weekend and would have loved to stay for longer.
This house is simply amazing. The location is perfect, the views are spectacular, we loved the kitchen, and the pool was wonderful!! Joshua Tree and this home in particular have been a highlight of our trip.
We had a wonderful stay at Christa and Mark's home. We loved the architecture, interiors, furnishings, and colors. It was modern and in tune with the desert surroundings. The pool and swamp cooler were a must in June/July. I sense my kids almost loved the pool more than the park. Although the house is in close proximity to town and the park entry, we felt like we had a private slice of our own desert in the back yard/hill. It is so convenient to the park, that we decided to go back to Hidden Valley after dinner for a different take during the "golden hour" and moonrise (highly recommended as it is cooler, less crowded, and golden brown/orange). Christa was, communicative, helpful, and flexible. A perfect desert stay for two couples or a family of 4.
We had such an amazing time staying at Christa and Mark's home. Stayed with 5 other friends and everyone felt comfortable in their rooms, we were able to easily cook whatever we wanted in the kitchen, relax poolside, and enjoy the hot tub and fire pit at night.
We would all love to come back!
What an amazing way to spend a few days in the desert. Christa and Mark's place was as amazing as I hoped it would be and more beautiful than the pictures showed. The location is perfect--right at the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park, with big open space in the backyard which really adds to that feeling like you're on the moon. Which let's be honest, is half the reason people come to Joshua Tree, right??
The pool is bitterly cold, but the weather was surprisingly mild during our stay, and the hot tub was perfect for a night soak. We saw rabbits, bats, and ground squirrels from the porch, and cooked big meals in the fantastically well-appointed kitchen. Seriously, they have everything, even a cocktail shaker!
Some things to note: The house is not air conditioned, and with the big open windows can get insanely hot. Luckily the bedrooms have little windows facing inside above the doors, and opening those to get some air circulating was all we needed to stay comfortable in the early morning heat. Also, the bedrooms get BRIGHT super early in the morning, so if you need total blackness to sleep, this might not be a good spot for you.
Overall, loved the house, would definitely stay here again if I come with a small group.
This was the perfect getaway from the city and work. The house has everything you need plus a pool and hot tub! We used both everyday. Close to the park for hiking during the day and enjoying the stars and a BBQ in the evening. We also enjoyed the Noah Purifoy Desert Museum, a sound bath at the Integratron and Pappy & Harriets while in town. Will definitely be back, thanks for the great accommodations.

About the Host, Christa & Mark
A number of years ago we were in Seattle living the corporate life... and lost ourselves, or at least lost what was important to us. So, we decided to sell our home with everything in it, buy a small motorhome with solar panels and travel the U.S. for what came to be 6 wonderful, beautiful, inspiring years. We settled here in Joshua Tree a few years ago and now live a simple life with our son Asher and dog, Amante. Hosting guests at our rentals allows us to be at home with our son and we love it! We also love to hike, rock climb, travel, stare up at the stars, watch the wildlife in our backyard, and enjoy our diverse group of friends that make the desert their home as well.
We own two of our vacation rentals and manage the others full time. Our website is Moonlight Mesa Retreats. We are happy to help with questions about our area and share any knowledge we might have.
