*NEW!* Schöneberg‘s most beautiful spot in ,Beautiful Hill‘
This stylishly furnitured 2-bedroom-apartment is perfectly located just inbetween the wonderful Victoria-Luise-Square (,Viktoria-Luise-Platz‘ in german) with its remarkable waterspout fountain and the unique KaDeWe!
The historic ,Department Store of the West‘ (,Kaufhaus des Westens‘ in german) is right at the same street of your very Berlin home. Who doesn‘t know it yet, will definetely love it – and who‘s already been there can‘t live without it anyhow. Because what‘s the Harrod‘s to the Londoners, the Lafayette to the Parisian and the Macys to the New Yorkers is the KaDeWe to the Berliner:
Famous for its sheer incredible assortment of designer fashion, products and delikatessen from all over the world its always worth a (day) trip: The seemingly neverending choice covers more than 1500 fragrances, 3400 different wines and 1300 types of cheese. All in all, there are 380.000 wares spread over 60.000 square metres or 14.8 acres. At any rate, a visit to the champagne bar at the gourmet area on the 6th floor is obligatory to the Berlin visitor. From your Schöneberg place you‘ll get to the oldest and lushest shopping mecca of the german capital just with a 7 mins walk - now that comes in quite handy, doesn‘t it? In any case, too much champagne won‘t leave you tipsy far away from home – or, if you‘re shopping queens and kings, you won‘t have to carry your treasures all over the city ;-)
,WITTENBERG SQUARE (,WITTENBERGPLATZ‘ in german) & UNDERGROUND ('UBAHN' in german)
Just opposite the KaDeWe, there‘s the ,Wittenbergplatz‘ at the ,Tauentzien‘, both a historically important square and street of houses of the West Berlin area. From there, you can catch the Bus going up to the Ku‘Damm (or Kurfürstendamm, as its actually called - a very prominent shopping promenade and the largest high street in town) OR you take the U2 underground going up northeast to Pankow OR you could also take the to germans famously known line 1 heading for Warschauer Straße and with that, also to the impressive and colourful East Side Gallery at the former wall of the GDR. Around that area , there‘s the huge O2 World concert hall, the wonderful Oberbaum Bridge (,Oberbaumbrücke‘ in german) or the overflowing and quite loud area around Simon Dach Straße, which is known for its millions of never closing bars. But for now, we‘ll go back to our peaceful and highly central neighbourhood:
VIKTORIA LUISE SQUARE (,VIKTORIA-LUISE-PLATZ‘ in german)
Just a 3 mins walk away is the above mentioned Viktoria-Luise-Platz (or VLP as I call it), and right there you can catch the U4 line. Getting here for the first time you‘ll be surprised as an unexpected idyll awaits you amidst the metropolis:
The VLP is a real highlight in Schöneberg – somewhat hip but also quiet and calm. Its a place to stay and rest: From dusk till dawn the sun is shining down on this gem of the ,Bavarian District‘ (,Bayrisches Viertel‘ in german) – every cafe, bar and restaurant at the square has its particular hours of sunshine.
BREAKFAST (,FRÜHSTÜCK‘ in german)
And so my favourite place in the mornings is definetely the Montevideo. Either inside or outside its comfy and calm since traffic at the VLP is calmed meaning no cars or other vehicles will disturb the relaxed atmosphere. I can recommend the Montevideo especially for its yummy pancakes – that‘s why‘d be my best bet for the perfect breakfast place to start your holiday. Later, whilst sipping your coffees, you can sit lazily in the sun and watch the students of the ,Lette Society‘ (,Lette Verein‘ in german) – a renowned and historic photo, design and fashion school. They‘re easily recognisable by their huge portfolios and hurried gait :)
DINNER (,ABENDESSEN‘ in german)
In the daytime Berlin offers so many hot spots and points of interest that we simply cannot list them here... In any way, after a long day with lots of things to do and see on your Berlin travel agenda, when you get back home hungry for good italian food, the best bet is the ,Ribaltone‘ right at the VLP: A small Osteria with a family atmosphere and very friendly staff. Well, and if you‘d explore it for the first time, say hello from us to Guiseppe & Manoli, it‘ll be rewarded :) Within minutes, crunchy pizzas or fresh pasta will be served on the tweedy red and white checkered tablecloth. And if you‘re not in a hurry with your food, the Loup de Mer is also highly recommendable in the authentic restaurant at which by the way even the former german federal president Horst Köhler used to dine and wine, too. On warm summer‘s evenings it is recommended to make a reservation in order to save one of the popular tables in the outdoor area for yourself.
And for the gourmets amongst you, the place to be is the ,Brenner‘ which is basically at your doorstep, a 2 mins walk from home. There, it‘s highly likely you‘ll be warmly welcomed by Anton Stefanov who runs this place crowned with 14 stars at Gault-Millau for its exquisite cuisine created by head chef Robert Lasarow. Look forward to fancy and delicious 3 to 6-course dinners that are a true feast for the eyes, palate and throat. And even though the ,Brenner‘ just opened up in 2011, it is already well treasured amongst the Berlin celebrities and so it may happen that you‘ll see one or the other familiar looking tv or movie face at the table next to you. In any case, an evening at the ,Brenner‘ is always a great experience – and especially for wine lovers a necessity and a must-see.
APARTMENT & FEATURES
Now, after having indulged in the great public transport connections and the local delikatessen, lets get to the apartment itself – because as they say, we saved the best for last:
A quiet, bright, comfy and elegantly furnitured 2 bedroom apartment awaits you on the second floor of a classy traditional Berlin buildings side wing.
LIVING ROOM (,WOHNZIMMER‘ in german)
The bright living room features pretty wooden floorboards and is furnitured quite minimalistically with a superb maintained Ligne Roset bedsofa (measuring 1.53 x 1.94 mtrs or 60" x 76" when converted as a bed), two small coffee tables, a dinner or work table and 4 chairs, a tv as well as a dvd and bluray player. The petite JBL iPod station boasts a smooth sound experience and comes in quite handy with even an iPod at your disposal sporting jazzy and bluesy playlists. If you guys like to listen to something else, just bring your iPod for your perfect holiday soundtrack. We also just bought a new all-in-one colour printer, scanner and copier from hp which you can connect with your device via USB LAN cable. Oh and some stationery basics are waiting for you as well, such as paper, scissors, glue and so forth.
BEDROOM (,SCHLAFZIMMER‘ in german)
Look forward to a bed on which you‘ll fall asleep instantly and will most definetely sleep through as well. So its best not to try it if you‘ve got any other plans for the day or night ;-) Apart from the wonderful bed measuring 1.60 x 2 mtrs or 63" x 78" in inches, there‘s all sorts of basics for your wardrobe like a clothes rail with hanging drawers, an electric iron and an ironing board and a white dresser featuring 3 drawers. For the fashion perfectionists amongst you: The pad also features a clothes shaver for rainy tv afternoons ;)
HALLWAY (,FLUR‘ in german)
The hallway has got wooden planks as well (as the bedroom, too, in fact) and is apart from that basically empty. Just a large mirror, a ,Clockwork Orange‘ poster, an ,Ai Wei Wei‘ and Kevin Spacey as Richard III decorate the foyer.
BATHROOM (,BAD‘ in german)
The shower room is small but nice, white tiled and equipped with the bare essentials featuring some daylight thanks to an opal glass window.
KITCHEN (,KÜCHE‘ in german)
The kitchen meets the travelers needs: An electric kitchen stove and oven, refrigerator, the very basics. Oh and of course there‘s a washing machine, an electric kettle, a retro-style radio and – especially in the mornings a blessing for the lazy holidaymaker ;) A Nespresso coffee machine sporting the corresponding coloured espresso capsules of all gourmet types for the caffeine kick – and a Nespresso milk frother for the perfect Latte Macchiato for a bright start of the holiday.
That‘s it! We hope we didn‘t forget anything :-) However, if you do need further information about this pretty pretty place send us your questions and we‘ll be happy to give you all the information you need to make a booking.
So, hope to see you soon in Schöneberg! Or how we say – due to all the italian influence in the area:
A presto in Montebello!

Sehr schön! We had a very comfortable stay: the apartment is beautiful and in a very convenient location (I believe we walked to four different subway stops). The decoration is minimalist and modern. We had all the amenities we needed (including sweet touches like candles and wine), but the apartment is completely uncluttered of things you don't need, which made it a very relaxing place to come home to at the end of the day. The hosts were lovely and responded quickly to all of our questions. We also enjoyed these excellent restaurants nearby: Il Ponte and Saigon & Mehr.
I hesitate to write this review, because I feel that words alone won't do justice either to the lovely flat itself, or to the brilliant host, Mila. Also, to be perfectly honest, I would want to stay nowhere else when I return to Berlin, and I am afraid that it will be booked solid year round with no room for me!
We came to Berlin for the first time, and honestly felt like we were being welcomed by family! Mila allowed us to check in early after our long flight from New York, which was an amazing help. The flat itself is beautiful, and truly in a gorgeous upscale section of town. Everything you could possibly need is right there - stocked kitchen (everything except food), a very comfortable bed, clean linens and towels, flatscreen with cable and Blueray player, and more! The apartment also has a washing machine for clothing and such, but not a dryer which believe me you won't need. The washer works so well at spinning the clothes dry that you only need place them for a short time on the drying rack that you'll find under the bed. There are organic (Bio) foodshops within walking distance as well as the KaDeWe. The U-Bahn (subway) is also around the corner (Viktoria Luise Platz). Of course, there are amazing restaurants around the corner - especially Montevideo!
Now, here is the bottom line. I was a bit skeptical of Airbnb and renting a place at first. Let me be blunt. I am an opera singer, and, I'll admit, fairly high maintenance (so I've been told). I will not stay anywhere, and refuse to tolerate a place that doesn't meet my standards. At the same time, a staying in a luxury hotel for a month was out of the budget. Now, the flat doesn't look like the pictures - it looks better! Mila's flat was, in a word, perfect, for me. The only thing better than the flat itself, was the attention paid to us by our superb host. Also, Airbnb facilitated a seamless transaction for us, and I would also happily recommend them.
Finally, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you Mila! I look forward to seeing you again very soon, and taking up residence once more, in the Cozy Schöneberg! Just put me at the top of the list, ok? ;-)
Danke Mila, you're simply the best!
Herzlichen Dank!
Great appartment in a nice appartment building, includes DVD player, WIFI, coffee machine, and much more. Close to Wittenbergplatz. Supermarket is also close by. No complaints. I had an awesome stay!
I stayed here almost 10 days. First, the host - Mila was very responsive (particularly around some flexibility and panicked messages when it appeared we might have major travel delays). She greeted my friend and I with fresh flowers for the apartment, a bowl of fresh fruit (to counterbalance the Currywürstchen), and even walked with us a bit around the neighborhood to show us some restaurants, the shopping, and give recommendations!
The place itself is better-than-advertized - very clean, comfortable, and located within a few blocks of multiple U-Bahn lines - only blocks from some of the Schoeneberg bars, but very quiet. The kitchen is fully stocked with implements for cooking at home, and the internet fast and reliable. I spent a lot more time this trip (my second time in Berlin) in the quickly re-developing, vibrant eastern parts of the city, though transit is so easy from this apartment it made no difference, the farthest corners of the city are never more than 20-30 minutes away, and there's plenty to explore nearby.
My time in this flat was great, and much preferable to being in a hotel, especially for longer stays. Everything was clean, comfortable, and in working order. I made good use of the Nespresso machine, fast wifi, and washer. Location-wise, it's next to several U-Bahn lines and a few blocks from the KuDamm. Mila and Axel were very friendly and accommodating, and I wouldn't hesitate to book this again the next time I'm in Berlin.
This is the final rate, including any fees from the host and Airbnb.
