Just finished a complete remodeling of my house and thought some skiers or other visitors to the area might like a simple, inexpensive place to stay. A queen size bed is now available in this not yet photographed room.
I assume if you're coming to Mercersburg you have some idea of what to expect, but it's a tiny town with half-a-dozen eating establishments (some of which are top notch, however) and marginal sources of entertainment, other than the Mercersburg Academy and Whitetail Ski & Golf Resorts. My house is within relatively easy walking distance of the Academy and about 10 minutes from the Whitetail Resorts.
Neighborhood is relatively quiet and safe for running or walking. If you'd like to see more photos of the house, let me know.
Self-serve breakfast is available: cereal, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal. If you would like a hot breakfast prepared, you need to let me know.
Brand new hardwood floors so I prefer that shoes and wet gear (skis, boots, etc) be left on the tile. Laundry room is available for use at no additional charge, just try not to toss anything metal in the dryer. I don't have a problem with responsible alcohol consumption, but please no smoking indoors or excessively drunken conduct.
Generally, if it's in the refrigerator you're free to use it but it is always helpful if you let me know if you finish something off so I can replenish it. :-)
Great host, never get to meet him but very responsive when called. The house was nice and clean and well furnished. However did not see microwave or TV for future renter to be aware not a big deal for us.
The house is fantastic, so nicely remodelled. The host is great. (His apple pie is delicious! :-) ). There are nice places minutes from his house to have a pleasant dinner. We had a run in the neighborhood and we could really appreciate the peacefulness of the area.
Walt's home very nice! Clean, comfortable and secluded away from busy roads/highways. Walt was not home during my visit, but the house was ready upon my arrival.
I really enjoyed the view of the sunrise from the second floor bedroom and enjoying the morning on the deck.
If you're in the Mercersburg area I recommend staying at Walt's!
We contacted Walt with short notice and he responded in less than 5 minutes that we would be able to stay, but he would not be there. When we arrived the house was ready for us and we found it just as described -- we were able to wash our clothes and spent a very pleasant evening there. I would definitely recommend it to my friends.
As stated by other reviewers, Walt is a very generous host, and really goes above and beyond to make his guests feel comfortable while staying both in his home, and the area. The picture doesn't really do the room (or house!) any justice. Walt's house is well appointed (if you like to cook, you'll love his fresh and modern kitchen), with scenic views of farmland on one side, and nestled on the other by woods. The Queen room has beautiful views through both windows, and if you are the nature type, there are bluejays and cardinals -among other birds- that make their home here, as well as deer, that if you are still, will come wandering out of the cornfield at different times of day. If you are a history buff, this town is also chock-full of amazing history, covering European, Black/African, and Indigenous history. Never heard of Mercersburg before now, and it's officially on my list of places to return to.
Unfortunately Walt was not there but his brother made us feel very welcome. We followed the GPS instructions step by step and were led directly to Walt's place. Very peaceful setting right beside a huge cornfield.
The house has been beautifully restored - I would have loved to have seen some 'before and after' photos.

I enjoy traveling, working with computers for a living, and most outdoor activities including skiing, hiking, and running. One of my favorite free-time activities is cooking, and I enjoy making and eating good food.
