Fantastic location, beautiful setting, & beautiful people. We spent 7 days at this lovely house. The rooms were very clean and the kitchen had everything that you can possible need for a weeks stay & all of the appliances were top of the line, not the cheap stuff you would find in a rental.
This is a great location if you want to explore the sights in Charlestown. Jim & Nancy gave us several great tips for sightseeing. There is plenty to see in Charlestown, especially if you like history.
My only negative comment would be that we only stayed for 7 days.
This was our first Airbnb experience and it was just outstanding. Our hosts, Jim and Nancy, were warm and welcoming. It was like visiting with old friends instead of new! The accommodations were excellent, with a lovely view of the marsh and river from a spacious bedroom with deck. Access to Charleston and to the airport were easy. Although we were in Charleston primarily for business, we will definitely return for pleasure and for another stay at Marshland Terrace. T&L Durham, NH
Marshland Terrace is a wonderful oasis of natural beauty and relaxation! From the spacious Tiki deck overlooking beautiful Goose Creek where we enjoyed our coffee and bird watching in the morning, to our glass of wine in the hot tub under the stars at night, it was a wonderful find!
My husband, myself, and our dog spent a week in the efficiency apartment to relax and sightsee in the Charleston area. This was our first vacation with our dog, so it was a tremendous gift to have such a beautiful place that was dog friendly.
Our dog has some "warm up" issues when it comes to other dogs, but Jim and Nancy's dog Canyon took it all in stride and everyone got along great. The neighborhood was safe and convenient for walking our dog in the morning and the evening, and the fenced in backyard overlooking Goose Creek made relaxing on the deck and in the hot tub stress free.
We took advantage of the skiff rental to explore Goose Creek which was beautiful and I would highly recommend. You can also fish off the dock and rent kayaks for even more fun on the water.
Jim and Nancy are wonderful easy going hosts full of great information and recommendations. They made us feel immediately welcome and were very helpful in directing us to the best places based upon our interests. Marshland Terrace is located within an easy 10 - 20 minute drive of any Charleston venue, with some fantastic local restaurants within a five minute drive. EVO, Sesame Burger, D.I.G. in the Park, and Phuong are all excellent and within a five minute drive. "D.I.G. in the Park" allows dogs in the outside bar/restaurant area. Yea! Or, you can not drive anywhere, fish of the dock and set the crab pot to catch your dinner! (Jim caught some beautiful blue crabs while we were there.)
We attended the "Taste of Charleston" food festival and would highly recommend that event. We also enjoyed and would recommend the Tea Plantation with the tour, plus the winery and distillery which are all within the same area. Also, don't miss Angel Oak which is on the way.
If you like the hustle and bustle of downtown, then Marshland Terrace wouldn't be the best place for you. My husband and I love staying on the water and staying in quieter venues with easy access to the hustle and bustle when we want it. Marshland Terrace with Cap'N Jim, Nancy, and Canyon was the perfect dog friendly choice for our vacation! We look forward to our next stay!
I arrived at River’s Edge a very sad, uneasy, self-deprecating and emotionally exhausted widow, with a rambunctious 11-month-old golden retriever. Here to start a new job, new chapter, and new life, in a total strange new area and just hoping that my pup would not cause too much commotion. Immediate relief came upon me.
The surroundings are healing, even with the torrential downpours of the summer. The view from the backyard was an outstanding display of nature, constantly changing. I took many videos and photos of brewing storms, clouds rolling in and then, shortly thereafter, colorful rainbows.
There are gloriously hot sunny days as well, learning how to kayak, fish, share stories, engage with guests, or just rock alone in the rocker on the Tiki deck.
The ebb and flow of the tide on the river, the beautiful birds partaking in the many types of bird feeders on the property, along with all the variations of in the scenery and nature were tranquil, calming, soothing. The flowers unique to the area are lovely, natural, and delightful to photograph.
In the evening, my routine was to sit on one of the many decks and watch “life” go by; Dolphins in fours, alligators in threes, large jumping fish and beautiful birds. One bird particularly would float by daily, like a snake charmer… I waited for the genie bottle to float by as well. I still do not know if it was a bird or a swimming snake.
Nancy, Jim, their lovely daughter, and “very cool dog Canyon” are gracious, attentive, unobtrusive, delightful, and extremely informative about the area and its offerings. In addition, they are charming, multi-taskers, ensuring that every guest feels special and unique.
My stay at River’s Edge was integral to bringing back my smile, interest in the outdoors, my belief in the next chapter of life. The surroundings and serenity of this little piece of pleasure hidden in the corner of Hanahan were beyond expectations.
And.... Canyon "the resident Lab" became my pup's best friend and very first boyfriend!
Thank you Rivers Edge,
Sam and Lilly
We had fantastic time at Jim and Nancy's home, and I would highly recommend this airbnb choice for the Charleston area. We were looking for a quiet getaway, and this place hit the spot! With such gracious hosts, we saw parts of the local area that we probably would never have found on our own. The best thing about this location is the beautiful waterside backyard, so plan a little time to enjoy it while you are there.
We stayed for 1 week with Jim, Nancy & Canyon (pooch) they all were supper hosts!! We just loved the property and all it had to offer, can't wait till our next visit to the Walkout Efficiency!! Jim & Nancy make you feel like you are family, could not have picked a better place to stay!!!! JoAnn, Gary & Lucky (our dog)
Jim and Nancy are very hospitable and helpful hosts, and their home is comfortable, clean, and pleasant. As others have noted, they enjoy engaging with their guests, and they have a wealth of information and experience to share -- but they are also happy to leave you privacy if you prefer.
The efficiency apartment has its own entrance, and it is distant enough from the other bedrooms in the house that you don’t have to worry about disturbing anyone if you come in late. The bed and other furnishings are comfortable and of nice quality. You are also welcomed to use their dining room, living room, sun porch, and tiki hut, which are all quite nice.
The location is an easy drive to the sites of the Charleston area. My 9-year-old daughter and I enjoyed our stay very much. Jim and Nancy really went out of their way to help make it a successful visit for us. For example, initially we didn’t have a car, so they gave us a ride into town for our first day of sightseeing (and gave us a tour) - and then drove us to the airport the next day so we could rent a car. They also loaned us guidebooks and maps and gave good tips on where to visit (particularly for nature enthusiasts). I’d hoped to get out on the river behind their home, but never found the time. It is a site that will particularly appeal to birders and other naturalists, and for an extra fee, they will rent you some kayaks - or you can arrange for Jim to take you out in his motor boat.
Beautiful house and incredible back yard. Super dog friendly and Jim and his wife are fantastic hosts! They made us and our two dogs feel welcome. We would definitely stay there again!
Both Jim and Nancy are extremely nice and friendly people. The house and room are as clean and comfortable as home. We stayed at the downstairs efficiency with a private bath. Jim did a wonderful job with his house. They also made awesome breakfast and dined with us and offered a glass of wine for night chats. On the early morning when we left, Nancy made us coffee and said goodbye. FYI their house is very close to the airport, but at the same time a short drive to downtown Charleston too.
Jim and Nancy like to engage with their guests and are extremely helpful. They know all the local interesting places, some of which cannot be found in any tourist book. Ask them and they'll share with you and make you regret that you didn't plan enough time there.
Jim and Nancy are also extremely active and well travelled. They have sailboats and kayaks for rental. Nancy took me on a 2-hour kayaking trip in the beautiful meandering Cooper River by their backyard. We had a great time together. My husband enjoyed fishing on their deck at the same time.
Jim and Nancy are less of hosts but more of friends in those two days. We are so happy to get to know them and look forward to coming back. There is so much more left to do:)
Jim and Nancy provide so much to those wanting a relaxing home and wonderful help with things to see and do in the Charleston area. My wife and I spent three nights at River's Edge and were truly welcomed and supported in our goals to relax and enjoy the surrounding environs. Jim provided ideas, maps, tips, and even some equipment for hiking in the beautiful Santee Coastal Reserve, an hour or so east and north of their home. We had a fabulous time and were great supported in our stay. We would recommend them to everyone. Thank you Nancy and Jim.
