About this listing
This private cottage is situated in a beautiful rear garden behind a historic craftsman house, off one of the main bike boulevards that runs between Berkeley and Oakland. San Francisco is 20 minutes away on BART, and UC Berkeley is 10 minutes away on a bike or by bus (or about a 20-minute walk through great neighborhoods).
The cottage has a queen bed, large closet, full bathroom, well-equipped kitchen, sitting area, and lots of daylight through big front windows, French doors, and two skylights. It opens onto a brick patio with outdoor furniture, a grill, vegetable garden, fruit trees, and a big hammock. We'll provide wifi, cooking supplies, locally-roasted coffee, a small library, and fresh garden produce. (Everything was just redone: walls freshly repainted, carpets cleaned, brand new bed and linens.)
We are both writers and work from home in the front house. We absolutely love the location of our place and we walk almost everywhere. It's a short walk to Rockridge BART and the Temescal district, and an even shorter walk to Whole Foods, Safeway, coffee shops, an excellent bakery, butcher shop, artisan ice cream, small movie theater and loads more. You can also easily get to a number of open space parks and beautiful hiking trails.
This is a great place for anyone coming in for meetings or guest teaching, or visiting friends/family in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Sarah and Alexis were the perfect hosts. Accommodating, private if you wanted, friendly if you needed. They happily lent me cake baking ingredients and went out of their way to be helpful. The cottage is lovely - feels very spacious and airy. The little touches - coffee beans, vinyl records, bourbon - make it special. I walked into Berkeley most days, about 20 mins, 10-15 to some shops, 25-30 to the Gourmet Ghetto area etc. It's a lovely area. About 15 mins to Rockridge Bart, then a 40 minute tube into San Fran. The perfect place to stay for a mix of reading, relaxing and Bay Area sight seeing. Thanks!
Sarah and Alexis were great hosts. They communicated clearly with us prior to the trip and were very responsive when we had a question during our stay. The cottage was charming and had everything we needed. We enjoyed walking around the neighborhood and exploring what it had to offer. We were initially looking to stay in the city when planning our trip, but I'm glad we booked this cottage instead because it was much more quiet and had a lot of great food options in the area.
The garden cottage is very comfortable and in a great location. Sarah was very responsive and flexible with our needs. We will definitely consider it again for our next stay in the Bay Area.
This place it really special! Really cozy and peaceful, which is exactly what I needed. Sarah and Alexis were very accommodating, and easily accessible. Everything went as smooth as can be with the check in/out. Great neighborhood with a short walk to the BART, and close to good restaurants and cafés. I would definitely recommend staying here!
The host canceled this reservation 49 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
I booked this very last-minute as my living situation left me in a bind before leading an apartment. Sarah was very prompt in getting back to me and confirming the reservation. This little cottage was such a nice retreat for a week! It's a quiet location but a short walk to all the greatest spots on Rockridge. The kitchen has all the essentials and the whole space was clean and inviting. The ceiling fan and open doors helped with cooling the space when afternoon sun heated up through the skylights. Jammin' to the Jackson 5 record while eating dinner on the patio was the highlight. Thank you for a great week!
About the Host, Sarah And Alexis
We are both editor/authors working for national magazines. We have lived in the Bay Area for many years and are fervent partisans for East Bay life. We recently became parents, so we spend lots of time at home playing with our baby, cooking, and walking the neighborhood.
