The space

This private cottage is situated in a beautiful rear garden behind a historic craftsman house, off one of the main bike boulevards that runs between Berkeley and Oakland. San Francisco is 20 minutes away on BART, and UC Berkeley is 10 minutes away on a bike or by bus (or about a 20-minute walk through great neighborhoods).

The cottage has a queen bed, large closet, full bathroom, well-equipped kitchen, sitting area, and lots of daylight through big front windows, French doors, and two skylights. It opens onto a brick patio with outdoor furniture, a grill, vegetable garden, fruit trees, and a big hammock. We'll provide wifi, cooking supplies, locally-roasted coffee, a small library, and fresh garden produce. (Everything was just redone: walls freshly repainted, carpets cleaned, brand new bed and linens.)

We are both writers and work from home in the front house. We absolutely love the location of our place and we walk almost everywhere. It's a short walk to Rockridge BART and the Temescal district, and an even shorter walk to Whole Foods, Safeway, coffee shops, an excellent bakery, butcher shop, artisan ice cream, small movie theater and loads more. You can also easily get to a number of open space parks and beautiful hiking trails.

This is a great place for anyone coming in for meetings or guest teaching, or visiting friends/family in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Enjoyed my stay at Sarah and Alexis's place. It was in a quiet neighborhood but close to restaurants and easy access to interstate. Cottage was nicely decorated and comfortable and easy to come and go from.

I stayed here during onboarding for a new job. The cottage was a lovely little oasis, just like Sarah and Alexis described in the listing, and it was a very convenient commute to downtown Oakland and San Francisco. Would absolutely stay here again!

My mom stayed in the cottage for a few days and Sarah and Alexis made her stay very easy and comfortable. Would definitely rent the cottage again on future visits.

We spent Thanksgiving in Oakland with our daughter and feel fortunate to have been able to enjoy Sarah and Alexis' garden cottage during our stay. We were very comfortable. The cottage is light-filled during the day due to many skylights. The bed was great; we had plenty of room and enjoyed their delicious coffee most mornings. It's an easy walk to the many cafes and shops on College Avenue, not to mention BART and so many walkable areas of Oakland. We rented a car for part of our visit (walk to Enterprise not too far away) and were able to drive to Cal Berkley and Point Reyes Park. All in all a great visit and we would be happy to return. Many thanks Sarah and Alexis! Your guidance concerning the airport, BART and car rentals was spot on and much appreciated.

I couldn't have asked for more. Sarah and Alexis's backyard cottage was a cozy, peaceful oasis. Comfy bed, internet, coffee, bourbon, books, a speaker for music + podcasts, a lovely view of their garden, and a long list of suggested local restaurants. My hosts were lovely to run into when our paths crossed, and communicative when I needed anything. It wasn't often, because everything was laid out so thoughtfully! I loved the little instructional notes. The neighborhood was quiet and safe, with lots of restaurants, shops, and entertainment in walking distance. It was super easy to take the BART into the city, but honestly, I found myself enchanted with Oakland and Berkeley. Would love to stay here again sometime!

We are both editor/authors working for national media companies and writing books. We have lived in the Bay Area for many years and are fervent partisans for East Bay life. We have two small kids, so we spend lots of time at home and walking around the neighborhood.
