The (very small) kitchen and bathroom were renovated in November 2014 and in December 2016 a new electrical system was installed which includes USB chargers in each bedroom behind the night tables. The flat is located in the city centre, and as such, space is at a premium. Please do not expect new world dimensions.

I have a good relationship with my neighbours so please be quiet at night and please remove shoes when in the flat as it disturbs the neighbours below.
The hot water is heated electrically and the tank is large enough for 2 showers. This can be stretched by not putting the tap on full as even half way, the pressure is very good. If there are 3 or 4 of you I suggest taking showers between morning and afternoon/evening times.
The rubbish in Madrid is collected is the small hours. This is something that is obviously beyond my control, however, the disturbance is just for a few minutes.
You will have access to the whole flat. If you need to do a load of laundry, please ask for user instructions before using it.
Interaction with guests
If at any time you need to contact me, please send a message via the Airbnb message thread as these messages go directly to my phone. I will then get back in touch as quickly as possible.
This city centre flat is located in arty, bohemian, multi-cultural Lavapiés which is walking distance to 'the Art Triangle' of El Reina Sofia Museum, The Prado, and The Thyssen. All other major attractions are walkable such as La Plaza Mayor, Royal Palace, Sol, El Parque del Retiro, El Rastro Flea Market etc. Lavapiés is great for tapas bars and Indian Restaurants as well as independent theatres and art galleries. There is a lively bar scene from rock, soul, and jazz to gay & lesbian. There is also a burgeoning coffee shop scene, most with free Wi-Fi and books for sale. This is a multi-cultural and safe area but if cultures/colours other than your own bother you, then perhaps Lavapies isn't for you. The flat is tucked away in a quieter back street (no bars). It's south facing and very sunny. The main bedroom has a view of the street.
The flat is within minutes' walk to two metro lines (1 & 3) and a 15-minute walk to Atocha Train station which is ideal for excursions out of the city. (Toledo, Alcala de Henares, El Escorial, Aranjuez)
There is a 24-hour supermarket called Carrefour just off the Plaza de Lavapies. There is also a downstairs which is not that noticeable and where all the shelf items can be found.
The following attractions can be reached on foot. Times are taken from a popular on line map search
Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía: 10mins (Picasso, Dalí, Bacon, Miró)
El Museo de Arte Thyssen-Bornemisza: 13 mins (Holbein, Monet, Lichtenstein, Van Gogh)
Museo Nacional del Prado: 13 mins (Goya, Rafael, Velázquez)
CaixaForum: 10 mins (exhibitions for small entry fee)
La Casa Encendida: 6 mins (free exhibitions)
La Puerta del Sol: 14 mins
La Plaza Mayor: 14 mins
Royal Palace: 19 mins
See the guidebook for free entry times to the museums
Lavapiés is the oldest, most dynamic part of Madrid and I'm sure you will love it as much as I do!
2 different metro stations within just a few minutes walk from the flat (lines 1 & 3) Anton Martin and Lavapies respectively. Several bus routes pass through the vicinity. Bus number 27 which stops in front of Teatro Price in Ronda de Atocha street (6 mins on foot) goes to Santiago Bernabeu Football Stadium.
24-hour indoor public parking garage 30 metres from the flat in Calle Primavera
20€ for 24 hours. Another equally close in Calle Esperanza costs 8euros natural day, overnight night is then charged at 1.50euro per hour
There is also a public Bike hire scheme (Bici Madrid) which offers electric Bicycles at a brilliantly affordable price. There are a number of pick up and docking stations located throughout the city. The nearest to the flat is in the Plaza de Lavapies which is just a few minutes walk away (take a look at Bici Madrid's website for more details).
If you are travelling with heavy suitcases, you may want to consider taking the metro from the airport to Lavapies metro station which has a lift to street level. This way does require two line changes. If you get the bus to Atocha, you can get the metro to Anton Martin but this station has no lift.

I am a curious person who likes architecture, photography, music (ska, garage rock, power pop, and flamenco), travel and good food. I love the buzz of the great cities like London and the charm of smaller places too.
I don't like litter, tag graffiti, racists, homophobes and I'm not fond of religious zealots or any other kind of extremist behaviour.
