The Space

Thanks for checking out my awesome downtown SF studio apartment.

Experience San Francisco like a true local urbanite by spending your visit here, located in an exciting and amazing part of the City in Nob Hill, just two blocks away from Union Square where you’ll find a plethora of designer shopping, the famous Powell-Mason Cable Car line, and all the energy that downtown SF has to offer!

If you’re here for business, the majority of popular conference hotels are within a couple blocks’ radius, and the Moscone Convention Center is a quick and easy 15-minute walk away. Walk to the financial district in under ten minutes.

I just finished setting everything up in this sleek remodeled studio apartment, so everything is brand new and impeccably clean. It’s a very comfortable fit for the solo business traveller or can serve as a cozy urban retreat for the sightseeing couple. My place is fully furnished with all the comforts of home, including fresh linens and towels.

Despite San Francisco's extremely temperate weather, I just installed a brand new air conditioning unit to keep the place extra comfortable on unusually warm days/nights.

Indulge in some of the City’s most fabulous dining and exciting nightlife, all within a couple blocks’ reach! In case you feel like ordering in from one of the phenomenal restaurants in the area, the kitchenette comes equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and dishes/flatware.

• Entire fully furnished apartment home for your stay
• Top floor of a great elevator building
• Fresh linens and towels
• Toiletries and hairdryer provided, just bring your toothbrush!
• High speed cable internet with Wi-Fi
• Air conditioning
• Flat screen TV with premium HD cable service
• Full/double size bed
• Memory foam mattress
• Table and chairs
• Plenty of hanging wardrobe and dresser space to unpack your clothes
• Kitchenette with microwave, coffee maker, dishes and flatware
• Coin-op laundry in building
• Laundromat and dry-cleaner right around the corner
• Numerous convenience stores within a couple blocks’ radius

Since this is my own second home and I’d like to stay here for a while, I’d like to kindly ask you to be mindful of my neighbors and apartment during your stay—NO parties, pets or smoking will be tolerated inside my home, so if these are your intentions please look elsewhere.

I personally love the convenience and exciting location of this spectacular downtown getaway, and I hope for the opportunity to share the experience with you during your visit to San Francisco. I’m a third generation San Franciscan, and during your stay I’ll gladly provide personalized recommendations toward the best in local dining and activities—all the best stuff that you won’t find in guidebooks—to truly enrich your visit and leave your heart in San Francisco!

If this sounds like an ideal arrangement for you, please contact me so we could get to know each other and discuss availability/logistics; tell me a little about yourself and what’s sparked your visit to SF. I look forward to meeting and hosting you during your visit.

  • A great place for a vacation in SF.

  • Very modern and clean apartment. A three-minute walk from Union square (close to lots of restuarants and shops). Convenience store right next to the apartment. Extremely nice and responsive host.
The only downside is that the bathroom is quite small, and that in my specific case, Austin was out of town and I had to pick up the keys from another place which was a 20-minute walk from the apartment (so obviously I had to take a cab for that - I was with luggage).

  • The apartment space was found very clean and furnished with the basics necessary for our stay. The neighboring tenants were quiet, and we were not disturbed by activity in the street or the restaurant below, even with the Tenderloin district a couple of blocks south of us. Convenient location for Walgreens, bus access, bars, and food. Communication with the host was convenient and we always received a quick response.
It's best not to have a car in SF, but we had driven in from CO and needed extended stay parking. For future reference for others, Best Parking on Jones St. worked out well for us. On the weekends, it's $25/day. We dropped the car off Fri night and picked it up Monday morning for $75.

We enjoyed our time in San Fran, and truly appreciate the host allowing us to stay in his apartment. We would recommend '621 Taylor St' to others.

  • Had a fantastic stay at Austin's apartment whilst attending Apple's WWDC conference at Moscone West. It was only about 15 minutes walk to Moscone from the apartment, so it was really convenient.

The apartment itself is small, but really modern and clean and had everything I needed. It was really nice to have my own space, and after hearing about some of the hotels my fellow attendees stayed in, I think I made a good choice. There's a small corner shop right next to the apartment (which I never had cause to go to) and a big Walgreens on Powell Street, which was perfect for buying everything I needed.

I got to the apartment before Austin expected me, so he told me to go and grab a coffee from the cafe over the road and he paid me back when he arrived with the keys. This was a really nice touch.

Whilst the downtown area of San Francisco has a lot of homeless people on the streets (I was a little shocking when I first walked to Market and beyond), I never really saw any between the apartment and Powell street, which made me feel much better about walking around there at night. The location is great, because it's not far from Powell Street and Market, but far enough away that it's not too busy.

Regarding the noise mentioned by other guests: I generally sleep with earplugs when I travel, but I never heard anything above general street noise now and again - the odd car, or person talking. I don't recall ever hearing music. I think in the evening / night I heard some kind of fairly loud general white fan noise from the restaurant downstairs, but I turned on the fan / air conditioning in the apartment, which drowned it out. Didn't cause me any issues. Austin was also very accommodating by telling me he'd happily move me if I did have any problems. I'd agree with the previous reviewer about the lift having a bit of a musty smell!

Overall, a great stay. If downtown wasn't so handy for the conference, I'd be keen to try out one of Austin's other apartments. Maybe next time!

  • A perfect base for us in the centre of San Francisco (close to subway, the famous cable car, shops, Chinatown) with everything we needed for the weekend. Apartment was super clean and modern, just as it says on the can, and well-kitted out with good linen. Sushi restaurant downstairs was great too, and we didn't notice the noise. Austin was really friendly and helpful with recommendations for not-so-touristy spots, when he met us with the keys.

His local tips came in handy, as the apartment itself is situated near tourism central Union Square (Powell Street is swarming with tourists!!!! We tried to avoid it) and therefore also attracted a LOT of beggars. We felt completely safe, but it was just a bit overwhelming, and the streets smelled of urine. The apartment building I thought also had a very stale stuffy odour, especially in the lift/elevator, as if its' never been aired. We chose to take the 5 flights of stairs instead. But that is just me!

On my last day I noticed a small sign in the entrance hall that read: "Warning: this area contains chemicals known to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm" - no elaboration, which freaked me out a bit, no idea. Good to know!!

All in all, we were happy and I think if you know what exactly what to expect then you will be just as happy with this apartment. Recommended!

  • Nice place. However if you are looking to sleep and relax forget it. Loud night club in alley below your windows. Partying and loud music till 3am. It would've been nice of Austin made some type of refund on the last unbearable night. He did not unfortunately. I would look for a better place if you are planning on a peaceful trip.

    Response from Austin:

This apartment is right in the middle of downtown San Francisco, and any rational traveler should take this into consideration when booking a place to stay-- the main draw of this apartment is its convenient location, central to all the hustle and bustle of Union Square. It is not advertised as a silent retreat, and it would be silly to expect so much after reading the description which I put a lot of effort into making transparent and comprehensive. Sure, there is naturally some ambient street noise that can occasionally leak into the apartment, but the descriptions contained in this review are grossly exaggerated and completely out of line. There is no nightclub in the alley below, just a very quiet wine bar and a popular neighborhood Japanese restaurant. They both close between midnight and 2am, depending on the night of the week, and neither venue plays music loud enough to be heard from outside on the street, let alone a number of stories up through closed windows.

This reviewer chose to stay through his entire week-long reservation without once communicating any issues or complaints to me about the apartment or the noise outside the windows. After checking out, on his way home to Phoenix, he contacted me to ask for a partial refund because of how "unbearable" his stay there was. Had he contacted me earlier in his stay, I would have gladly offered him one of my other apartments in a quieter residential neighborhood as an alternative, or I would have even been happy issuing him a partial refund for the remaining nights for him to check out early and move to a quiet luxury hotel, but he conveniently chose to wait until he'd used up his entire reservation before asking for money back, when there was no other available solution. When I didn't give him any sort of consolation payout, he went on to write this unfavorable review.

Please see all my past guests' feedback (and the positive acclaim that will hopefully come from future guests) for a more accurate idea of what to expect from this wonderful apartment. I am very proud of the properties I have listed here on Airbnb, and I don't expect any sensible prospective guests to be dissuaded by one unreasonable review. I look forward to hosting many more of you going forward.

  • Austin's apartment was awesome. It was so close to Union Square, clean and convenient. I was travelling alone so safety was a very high priority for me and this place suited me perfectly. Although I never met Austin, he gave me excellent directions to pick up the keys and leave them and was so helpful to me. I definitely recommend this apartment.

What's up Airbnb'ers, I'm a third generation San Franciscan, and I happily returned to this great city in 2011 after nine years living/working/studying in New York City, Hong Kong and Southern California and as much travelling/backpacking that I could afford around China, Southeast Asia and Western Europe. My day job is in the finance industry, and I'm a huge fan of travelling, eating delicious local food, snowboarding, golf and poker, among many other hobbies. I love the philosophy behind Airbnb's peer-to-peer home-sharing model, and the Airbnb experience has been a lot of fun so far. I'm excited to serve as your host during your visit to San Francisco, and I hope your stay here empowers you to experience all the magic this city has to offer. I also look forward to meeting many of you and maybe even experiencing life in your city some day as well! Happy Travels, Austin
