About this listing
Cute little back yard "granny flat" cottage located near Mt Tabor park in very desirable neighborhood! The cottage is "Portland Style" construction with excellent insulation (R30), new windows, etc.. Great host, free internet, parking, furnished living space that is quite private.. I absolutely love to cook (growing up my parents owned a restaurant), and a made to order hot breakfast is included! Menu items range from hot breakfast panini sandwiches, homemade biscuits, Lisa's secret-recipe-fried potatoes, and much more!
The cottage contains an upstairs bedroom & sitting area. Note: There are stairs, so please take that into account if you have joint pain, etc... The full size mattress is new and comfortable. Downstairs there is a small kitchen with stove, microwave and under the counter fridge. Also downstairs is a full bath with ceramic tile shower. Coffee maker and freshly ground coffee provided in the cottage. Guests are welcome to use washer/dryer in main house
Guests have use of the back yard with fruit trees, fire pit in the center, and some berries when in season.
Just down the street there is a community built outdoor pizza oven made of tile and cob. Also there is a covered cob bench. We built these for public use and community gathering. Also the cottage is within walking distance of Division street shops, Pizzicato pizza, and many food carts including the much loved "Los Gorditos" food cart which was written up in Bon Apetit magazine.
The # 4 bus is just a block and a half away, which can take passengers west directly downtown or east toward the Max line (Portland's light rail).
1) If you have a pet, PLEASE be sure it has been treated within the last 10 days with"Advantage" flea treatment!!! This is important, thank you very much for your understanding. Also clean up after pets in yard, as needed .
2) We have awesome neighbors and have never had any difficulties with them with street parking, but as a courtesy to them, we ask that cottage guests please park in our driveway or in front of our house (not in front of neighbor's houses) thank you!!!!
2) Of course, only smoke outdoors, and dispose of cigarettes properly, thanks!
We had a lovely time at Lisa's cottage! She is very kind and accommodating. Her breakfasts in the morning are the perfect start to any day and rivaled the meals we ate out while in Portland. The cottage is just as described and depicted, it's a small space, but well thought out so you don't feel cramped. The bed is very comfortable and it was private and quite every day. We found it to be the perfect oasis after a long day caravanning around Portland. It does look like the fire pit that was once in the backyard is no longer there, but that wasn't too big of deal for us as we were usually ready for bed by the time we made it back to the cottage. We would absolutely stay here again and hope to do so soon because Portland and this cottage are both amazing!
Lisa made us feel very welcome at the cottage and everything that we needed to complete our stay was available. Lisa provided a breakfast each morning and left it in front of our door if she had to run out early. The breakfast was delicious and a nice addition to the package. The house was easy to find (we used GPS) and was ready for us when we arrived in the evening.
Very quiet and private, close to Mt. Tabor park, which is amazing. It was easy to get around Portland from here and the neighborhood is great. Getting breakfast, as well, was an unexpected surprise!
We had a short but nevertheless lovely stay with Lisa. I would recommend the cottage as it is quiet and a lovely neighborhood and Lisa is a good host.
Lisa was a great host - very welcoming but unobtrusive. Breakfast was outstanding and definitely helps make this cottage an even better value!
We could not have asked for a better place to stay for our 3 nights in Portland. Our son's wedding was on Sunday and we were able to stay near him and other guests on the S.E. side of Portland. The cottage was in a lovely family neighborhood. Lisa had the cottage stocked with everything needed at hand plus many extras. The cottage is small and darling and very efficiently done. The breakfasts are what you would find in a gourmet restaurant. All delivered hot and fresh to your door. Lisa herself is a warm, friendly and delightful woman. We will be back Kitty and Jack
The cottage was comfortable after traveling for long days around Oregon. Lisa offers an incredible breakfast and comfy bed (as others have noted). She is also very attentive and kind to her guests. The cottage was bigger than I imagined from the photos so that was a nice surprise. It has been crafted into a nice little home and Lisa has provided everything you need to enjoy your stay, especially if you want to make your own food there. The air conditioning was perfect and the water pressure was good.
About the Host, Lisa
I am a retired clinical social worker (I worked for 15 years in local hospitals) and live with my husband Tom (who is an RN), and foster son (one of thousands of kids who fled the violence in Central America- seeking asylum here) in the South Tabor neighborhood of Portland. Tom and I met two decades ago while attending the University of Puerto Rico, and we love traveling, as well as opening up our backyard cottage & meeting new people! Tom lived all over the world as a kid (Nigeria, Puerto Rico) as did I (I went to junior high in Nairobi, Kenya). I am from the Willamette Valley (wine country) in Oregon and can point you to various activities that only locals know about .... For example the twice annual wine bottling party in McMinnville, organized by Linfield College professors & neighbors up on "High Heaven Rd" where you can get 20.00+/bottle wine for only 5 dollars per bottle (if you come bottle it yourself). It takes place in the Spring and the Fall, & is not advertised anywhere & not open to general public except guests of locals (such as myself) are welcome! You may come as my guest if you are interested! Also, there are some great walking trails - a couple of my favorites are walking on nearby Mt. Tabor park with views of the whole city. I also enjoy the trail next to the Columbia River. There are also plenty of fantastic places to eat in Portland I am happy to share with folks, that many Portlanders flock to & are not in the tourist guidebooks! I love to cook and enjoy carrying out a hot breakfast try to you in the morning. My parents used to own a restaurant. Some people do yoga to relax, I cook write & paint to relax, LOVE it!!!
