The Space

Hiking Mt. Chirripo or kayaking Rio Chirripo? You will enjoy a sweet mountain river cabin just steps from the put in/take out for Class IV kayaking on the Chirriipo. Let your stress melt away as the sound of the river soothes every cell of your body/mind. This cabin is turnkey, all furnished and ready for morning coffee/tea. Caretakers next door can help you find what you need.

The river, flowers, birds and fruit trees will welcome you. Expect cool nights sleeping under the covers or under the stars. Mornings are sunny and clear.

What is nearby to do? Mt Chirripo National Park, Cloudbridge Reserve and Aguas Thermales (Thermal Pools) are on the bus route, or about 20 minute car ride to the town of San Gerardo. Another day trip is the beach at Dominical, where surfing is great and zip lines show where the mountains meet the ocean. Dominical is accessible by bus or about an hour by car. The city of San Isidro del General, also on your bus route or a 20 minute car ride, has everything you would need.

We really enjoyed staying here, as it was a little cabin tucked into nature. The caretaker, Dilana, is very sweet too, and Anita and her both and gave us all sorts of advice when we needed it. The river is literally right across the road, and it's nice to go and play in the water there, although it's a bit cold!

Be prepared to hear what sounds like a motocrossed race in your bedroom at 7/730 am! Apparently roosters crow at 5 am, but we slept through this. If you want a quiet place, this will not be for you.

People shout through the gate on the road to sell you things, which we enjoyed as everyone is very friendly, but if you want privacy, this offers little.

We didn't feel that the security was sufficient, as the only way to shut the front door was with a small gold linked chain that you had to weave in between the door frame and the wall, and then lock with a small padlock. She assured us no one would cut the chain, but that was all the security except the gate next to the road.

As I said though, we like the more rustic experience, so we had a great time!

About
I am a lover of natural beauty, a tennis player, an online professor, a mediator, a trainer, and writer. I chose the Kayak Kabin because the sound of the mountain river is soothing and brings me peace and joy to every cell and bone in my body. I am a graduate of Virginia Tech, Texas Tech and Nova Southeastern University. I have lived most of my life in Pennsylvania, Texas and Florida, but lots of places in between including the Dominican Republic where I was a Peace Corps Volunteer. I speak Spanish and English. I practice T'ai Chi Chih and became accredited as a teacher in 2006. I love to do my moving meditation overlooking the river that flows down from Mt. Chirripo with the hummingbirds and butterflies playing all around me. Being adventuresome and changeable (some call it flexible and others call it wishy washy)... anyway true to form my life motto is from the wisdom of Mahatma Gandhi, "I must be the change I wish to see in the world"
