Sunset Blvd two blocks away as is Santa Monica Blvd..,,public transportation, lighted tennis courts [5 min walk], basketball, 2 parks (Plummer Park-5 min walk and Poinsetia Park--10 min), comedy venues, with The Laugh Factory walking distance.
--restaurants (Cheebo, Pikey's Bar) and spas/salons, specialty fast food like Chipotle, Zankou Chicken, In and Out Burger, etc Indian, Thai, Vegetarian, Sushi etc Two or more gyms...all walking distance.

On Mondays there is a farmers market at Plummer Park, virtually next door. Free tandem parking for one car. Free Street Parking also. Great area. Across the street from the historic Spaulding Square, lined with beautiful Craftsman homes valued over $1,000,000.

Walking distance to famed Runyon Canyon and the walk of fame on Hollywood Boulevard and the Hollywood Highland complex with the Kodak Theater. Also walking distance to the famed The Grove and Farmers Market. (longer walk)

Very comfortable in a very cool area. Check out the scene close by. Drop by Xai Hookah Lounge on Sunset. Or eat at the new Pikey's Bar on Sunset or the fabulous Cheebo on Sunset and Sierra Bonita or Bossa Nova on Sunset (open until 3 am), Aroma on Sunset, El Compadre with the best margaritas and chips and mariachi music on Sunset (and relatively cheap) all an easy close walk. All types of restaurants and cafes with all types of food, including vegetarian. For a scene, go to The Village Idiot restaurant and bar on Melrose. You can walk there too. It's reasonably priced and happening!! Have Sushi, cheap or expensive within walking distance. Everyone delivers here too. Order by internet. Or have a real adventure. Take the metro downtown and check out The Edison. But you will need to dress up. It is the hottest bar scene these days...1920's era SpeakEasy...people dress up....very fun scene...very happening...
But all of LA is happening these days...all this creative energy in Hollywood mixed with perfect (email hidden)d a culture of freedom and choice

Walk to Sundance movie theaters, the Director's Guild (where film festivals are often held) or ArcLight theaters (Arclight is a much farther walk) for the best movie/film experience., where u can buy individual seats online or drink wine while viewing film. Go to the upscale Sunset Plaza or the Beverly Center or
Beverly Connection. Walk to Melrose.

Or get the best burgers that are also the cheapest at In and Out Burger, just east of our location. Try the neopolitan milk shake (also not advertised but for those in the know). Or order your burger low carb with lettuce wrap instead of a bun...or ask for any of their burgers "Animal Style." They don't advertise it...but those in the know...go! It is a must have experience.

Go to the cool remodeled Observatory. Check out LACMA (L.A. County Museum of Art), nearby at Wilshire and Fairfax or the car museum. Don't miss the Getty if you love architecture and art or downtown Disney Hall that was designed by Frank Gehry and is quite impressive in terms of architecture and music. You can take the metro for a show downtown. Because the only great area with a metro is at Hollywood Highland.

See Runyon Canyon from your window in the distance, or walk it to the top at Mulholland Drive and maybe find yourself walking or hiking with a movie star or director. And aside from a great walk, you can see the best view in Los Angeles, all the way to downtown and the ocean.

The Backyard of apartment building is landscaped with flowers and fruit trees (lots of lemons and avocados) and sitting area and red barbecue enclosed with bamboo fencing. If you smoke, you are welcome to smoke outside in the backyard. No smoking in the unit except on balcony with door closed.

There is a manager at the location who is incredibly helpful and French (and she speaks Spanish as well). You will get a real feel for living in Los Angeles here as we are in the heart of the hippest and coolest area of Los Angeles with also the best weather.

Taking the metro nearby, you can be in downtown los angeles in 15 minutes or Universal City in 10 min.or the train station, The closest metro stop is Hollywood Highland, which is a big indoor/outdoor shopping structure with parking, shopping, restaurants, movies, entertainment on the streets and the famous sidewalk with stars and handprints of the stars.

Compare to nearby hotels with only one room of 200-300 sq ft (Loew's ,the Standard, the Roosevelt, Comfort Inns, W) and here at this remodeled two bedroom 1200 sq ft unit with kitchen and all hotel amenities, including location.

You will be at the center of the action. ..where creatives from around the world (email hidden)e mix is intoxicating and L.A. in this part of town is very friendly and very laid back and safe.

Freedom reigns and everyone is welcome. I've traveled the world...but returning to L.A. with its perfect humidity and perfect weather and ultimate sense of freedom, never gets boring.

For a side trip...go to the Channel Islands and explore, an hour away or take a day trip to Santa Barbara wineries about 1 1/2 hour drive away. Malibu is a 45-60 minute drive north. High end restaurant in deep Malibu is Geoffrey's Restaurant (outdoor dining also..and overlooking the ocean)...casual and good but not cheap...is Gladstones (overlooking the ocean) which is just at the border of Malibu so not as far as deep Malibu. Also, for some scene action and if you check out Santa Monica (where it can be 10 degrees cooler and overcast)...go to the Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica for Happy Hour during the week. Or the W hotel in Hollywood. Bosa Nova on Sunset has a happy hour too 3-7 and is open until 3:30 a.m. Brazilian, Pizza, salad, main dishes, salmon, skirt steak, pasta...really enjoyable and busy.

From June 25, go see the Laguna Art Festival and the famous Festival of the Masters along with the Sawdust Art Festival...this is about 1 1/2 hour drive south...but Laguna Beach is absolutely charming and you will love it, especially now.

The beauty of Southern California is at your fingertips...and the few days you've set aside for L.A. will whet your appetite for more. And if you love city life, west Hollywood takes the cake. Places stay open late, people on the move. Nearby there is always a restaurant open until 3 am. Le Bar Marmont very close at the Chateau Marmont Hotel. Melrose close. Sunset 2 blocks away. But relax...this is L.A., the west coast, not New York of the cold or humid, hyper and costly east coast. (But don't get me wrong, I enjoy NYC now and then too). This is the friendly warm coast. Where dreams and people play together. And some come true.

The Neighborhood

I live in this area and I love it. Have lived in Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Hollywood Hills and this is by far my favorite location. Central, convenient, fun, international, and creative. I see it as the West Village of Los Angeles. And one can actually walk to restaurants in this area. LA is so car centric in general which is why I love the ability to walk in a neighborhood. Directly across the street is Spaulding Square, designated a historical district with Craftsman houses...very pretty to walk around.

  • Denise was an incredibly helpful host. Everything was organised from the day we booked, she even helped with local landmarks and points of interest. I will definitely stay there again as her unit is in walking distance to everything you need to see in LA

  • The apartment was very clean and well-equipped, and had a great, homely vibe to it. It was very close in proximity to Sunset Blvd, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, LA Fitness, Fresh and Easy and CVS Pharmacy.

Having an additional bathroom for the second bedroom was most appreciated.

About
Friendly, outgoing and vivacious, I am currently involved in many ventures and adventures. I am interesting to others and interested in others. Fun loving, energetic and hospitable. And intent on you having a great stay in Los Angeles, my native state and city. Am a very good host because I enjoy doing it. I love good food and nice people...and for myself, always growing as a person and learning new things. My significant other, who is often with me, is a top eye/LASIK surgeon in Beverly Hills and Orange County (and a US News and World Report 2012 Top Doctor) and a great skier and tennis player and kayak/boat person. So if for any reason you have a question about LASIK while in L.A., you'll have an "in" vis a vis questions and a free examination if LASIK is something you were thinking of doing. Or keratoconus issues--you know who you are--...cause he's a world expert in that and his latest work saves vision. I told him that was a crazy extra we would give my guests. Not that I think your vacation should be spent this way!!! As you can see, I can definitely be eccentric. We love to travel and meet new groups of friends...relationships are everything...things come and go but connections with people endure. We decided to participate in airbnb because of the adventure of it all and the fun of meeting new people. I like the places I host to have the things in them that I would want. Modern bathrooms with tile, black out shades in bedrooms, comfortable beds with down comforters and down pillows (or not if you're allergic), great locations where I can walk places if I choose, especially restaurants and shops to eat and browse. And there are many restaurants and shops nearby. We are close to everything fun. I love city life even though I also vacation in the mountains and the beach. And I absolutely love California. And I say that knowing NYC and its allures, since one daughter lives there and the other daughter recently moved back from Manhattan. I have traveled almost everywhere and have rarely found the combination of things I like better than the Hollywood area where I myself live or the southern beaches of Orange County, California, where I hang as well. Paris is great...but not to live full time...New York City is great as I said...but after a while, I want my L.A. with its sunny skies, diverse culture and people, freedom, the ocean, the desert and the mountains close by and lower cost of living. There are so many bargains in L.A. too and the food is really good and really fresh. Better than NYC in my opinion unless you are spending an arm and a leg. A Whole Foods market is five minutes away in the Hollywood location, 15 minutes in the Huntington Beach location. And the area of my airbnb places in Hollywood is a hub. I can walk to the Laugh Factory or down Hollywood Blvd where the street actors hang or eat a fabulous dinner at Cheebo, or the best hamburger ever at In and Out Burger...and not break the bank. And Chipotle of course...10 minutes away by foot, if that. New York City, Manhattan is great if you have tons of money or money is no object...and it is great to visit for their museums and energy and nonstop lifestyle. But L.A. has a lot that New York does, and much better sushi and equally good restaurants (and less expensive)...and perfect weather. And the incredible Getty Museum, in two locations, that are free. And shopping is very good here as well. LACMA and the Car Museum are ten minutes drive away, right next to the La Brea Tar Pits. And you can horse back ride 30 minutes away, near the beach or in Griffith Park...western or English. Or race cars. Or hang glide, or balloon ride, sky dive, learn to fly, water ski, snow ski, kayak, sail or whatever. Or stay out all night clubbing. I love the "cool" and chic Hollywood area so much because of the hubbub of activity and creative energy, where there is always something happening and always sensational (email hidden)d the "Hollywood" connection of course, that brings with it an international group of creatives. And you can definitely spot celebrities. I was in line at Whole Foods with Drew Barrymore. And Scarlett Johanssen has a place where I myself live, 5 minutes drive or 15 minutes walk from my airbnb Hollywood places. The Zappa family is walking distance, as is the director of L.A. Confidential, and tour vans looking for stars are in this area driving around. But when I get stressed in the center of the world (so California centric, I know!) I revert to the laid back California beach girl that craves the absolutely beautiful and clean Southern California beaches of Orange County or the shopping at the absolutely beautiful The Grove and historic Farmers Market on 3rd st and fairfax. Or I go shoe crazy at Off Broadway (walking distance) or DSW (a further walk), where the inventory is mind boggling. Hollywood/Highland also has everything in one place...the Kodak theater, restaurants, shops...name it. Including a bowling alley..Lucky Strike Bowling...And the metro stop. And you can take the metro to downtown and get authentic dim sum in a 20 minute ride or catch professional sports at the Staples Center. And because my boyfriend Ron teaches eye surgery at one of the top universities in California, we have a house in Huntington Beach as well., that we put on airbnb and will offer to airbnb guests in addition to the Hollywood location. The National Resources Defense Council released their annual 2012 list of the cleanest and dirtiest beaches and lakes of the United States. Two of the three beaches in Surf City (Huntington Beach) were included in the top 3 cleanest beaches in California, Bolso Chica State Beach, and Huntington State Beach. They each received 5 star ratings and are minutes from our Huntington Beach house, which is on the water with a boat dock. Ron and I love the water, where we kayak and paddle board off our private dock. Or when we feel like being lazy or when de-stressing, sit in the new jacuzzi with lights and massage jets and view others kayaking and paddle boating off our deck. Additonally, Ron does helicopter skiing, water skiing, boating and a little golf. All available (except heli-sking) within 30 minutes drive of the Hollywood or Huntington Beach location. The high stress of surgery finds many doctors doing intense sports and he is one of them. I too love the above except for golf and heli-skiing, but also am into hiking, walking, working out with weights, yoga and pilates, and running, walking and biking on the beach. And am planning to learn sailing so I can get a hobie cat catamaran. I'd add reading and shopping so you don't get the idea I am always in sports mode. But the California sun always beckons one outdoors to hang at our beautiful coastline or interesting and beautiful cities. (depending where of course). Hollywood is that special place where freedom reigns king. Nothing is strange and everyone is pretty mellow. People enjoy life here. And no one feels out of place. (Except do not drink and drive--our laws are fairly strict with drinking and driving.) But California has legal medical marijuana with shops that sell it. And West Hollywood is one of the most liberal cities in the world, where all life styles get along, . And it is totally appropriate to go anywhere, including high end restaurants, in jeans or your finest threads. Maybe the weather spoils everyone or puts most in a good mood. People are friendly here. The Directors Guild is walking distance from the Hollywood airbnb places and often there are film festivals held there. The Writers Guild is also nearby on Fairfax. And in my new airbnb location in Hollywood, which will be available in March, Ashton Kutcher has his production company and studio around the corner. Equally stunning Southern California landscapes dot the southern coast of California that go from Seal Beach to Huntington Beach (also officially known as Surf City, USA) to Newport, Laguna, La Jolla and San Diego. And the Northern coast takes you to Santa Barbara. And all of this is accessible from the metro at Hollywood/Highland that takes you to Amtrak 20 minutes away downtown.(San Diego, San Clemente, Solano Beach Santa Ana are places the train or metro will take you--check the schedule) And you can drive of course. This is the Southern California lifestyle that is unique to California...beautiful, high end, lower cost than NYC, beachy, city and warm. With friendly people. Many CEOs live around the Southern beaches because the beaches are really beautiful and not overly populated like in L.A. And many CEOs and entertainment people live in Hollywood or the hills nearby. Although living in the city in the flats has become the latest thing, as it has a type of feel like the village in NYC. We all like the convenience of not driving the hills in the dark. The ocean breezes are always around at the southern beaches and Huntington Beach is world renown as a surfing haven where world class surfing events are held. The Huntington Beach house is centrally located in terms of the southern beach towns and only 35 minutes from downtown L.A. and 1 1/2 hours to San Diego and if you dare, the Mexican border. We travel a lot around the world where my boyfriend donates his time to do eye surgery and vision restoration to those in need or to teach doctors in third world countries the most recent advances in eye surgery as well as to conferences on the latest techniques in refractive, corneal or cataract surgery, where he also lectures. We both love meeting people from around the world and the U.S. It is people who engage us, not things. Normally, when we travel, we to go to a Ritz Carlton, Marriot or W or similar. Our abodes reflect these preferences. But ever since we started on air-bnb, we've changed and have now booked places with air-bnb in Italy, where we were very happy. As long as I have a comfortable bed that is queen size, with cable TV, wireless, and a great area near transportation, restaurants, shops and the property has been remodeled with new bathrooms, I am much happier with the additional space that an apartment or house affords... the comforts of home are so appealing. As is the fun of meeting our hosts or being one ourselves. Of course, high hotel rates, plus hotel taxes, are persuasive factors as well. So we try to provide everything that we would want ourselves if we were traveling. I love this city of Los Angeles and know all the enjoyable things to do here. And with our exceptional weather, I'm sure you will love it here as well.
