La casa de Pascale es excelente. Está situada en un extremo de la medina, cerca del centro, del puerto y de las murallas. Las condiciones interiores son óptimas. La atención de Latifa, insuperable. Áltamente recomendable.
We were made very welcome, which was refreshing after being picked up at Marrakech airport by one of the grumpiest and unfriendly drivers we've had for a long time. Unfortunately we had him on the return too and he just dumped us and our bags off in the car park, grunted when I paid him and drove straight off.
Unfortunately our pleasure didn't last long when we discovered that the whole riad was damp and cold including the, obviously, non aired and very damp bedding. It took us most of our ten days to get the property warm enough for comfort by burning the log fire in the lounge, the only fireplace in the building that appeared to be usable, round the clock.
Latifa, the cook, was very sweet but her assistant was bone idle and, to the best of our knowledge, never washed the floors once or swept them properly. A bit of foil from the opening of my toothpaste merely got moved around a bit on the floor, it became a game with me to discover where she'd pushed it to each day, if she had touched the floor. Her main priority seemed to be her mobile phone that she was never without. The only time we got what could be described as properly aired and dried bed linen was a couple of days before we left when the cleaning picked up as well. Coincidence? You draw your own conclusions.
It could all have to do with the fact that Pascale was away visiting relatives for most of our stay. As they say, "When the cat's away, the mice will play"
As for the riad itself, it's looking very tired and in need of a lot of TLC. The roof terrace particularly is in a pretty bad state unlike the immaculate one next door. The ground floor toilet smelled like an animal had dragged itself into it and died. It should also be noted that the view to the sea has been ruined by a partially completed three story concrete building being erected in front of it. Not the fault of Pascale but some mention of it should be made in the description.
We enjoyed most of our holiday and met some amazing and some very weird people, including one who looked exactly like Jesus from a Hollywood movie even down to a bag of fish and bread but maintained that he was the reincarnation of Adam come back to save the world and lots of lovely cats.
Essaouria has a truly wonderful vibe about it and we'd go back again in a flash but probably not to Villa Allun to be honest.
We enjoyed staying at the riad. Housekeeper and cook Latifa is the real gem here! We loved her food and company. The house is spacious, very clean, has good beds and bathrooms with lots of hot water. If you can overcome the fact that there is a house being build in front of you, it is a great place to be.
logement conforme au descriptif , nous avons passés des jours merveilleux dans cette ville envoutante
Villa Allun was a lovely place to stay right in the heart of Essaouira in a very central location. The riad was stunning, the room was spacious and clean and the shower was hot and powerful. The staff were really sweet and we had fun trying to communicate in French as they didn't speak much English. Pascale stopped by to meet us and gave us some advice on where to go and what to do during our short stay by the coast. My only very slight negative is that the view wasn't quite as picturesque as the photo makes it out to be - and as we selected this riad mostly for the view, we were a little disappointed to find that there was a but unfinished building right next door and that the terrace wasn't really used. But as we only had one night in Essaouira, we spent most of our time exploring and actually probably wouldn't have used the terrace anyway, so we weren't too disappointed. We had a great stay and would recommend Villa Allun for its great location and traditional style. Thank you Pascale and staff :)
We (me and six friends) spent four nights in Pascal's riad and enjoyed it a lot. The riad is in the medina, so we couldn't reach it by car (parking spaces are available in from of the medina, but quite expensive). It is located at the end of the medina, almost facing the ocean. It was a great space to discover the medina (walking toward skala de ville, …), towards the other side it was not so nice, quit dark, narrow roads (although we found a nice restaurant named “tara café” there!). The riad was lovely decorated and very spacious. We had the whole house to us, since we were seven people. The rooms were clean and the bed was very comfortable. Although it was very windy (as always in Essaouira) we could sit on the terrace for a while and had a great view towards the ocean. The housekeeper Latifa took care of us during our stay. She was very helpful although she couldn’t speak English. The breakfast was amazing, she even cooked dinner for us once.
We enjoyed our stay in the riad a lot, it was definitely one of the highlights of our morocco-trip.
Many thanks to Pascal and Latifa, we are looking forward to visiting you again some day!
