We welcome you to our 1853 three story, corner city townhouse. Your own 2nd floor in our home, with a private bedroom/queen sized bed & private bathroom. There is also a TV room and library area for your use.
We walk through the 2nd floor hallway to get to our 3rd floor.
Luxury plush robes, made out of soft, ecological bamboo, are waiting for you!
House is decorated Provencal, as we are obsessed with all things French! We are a well traveled couple who love guests!
Very liberal in all respects... Intermediate French spoken.
We provide Coffee/Tea in the morning (help yourself, no set time...), at the table in the relaxing sunroom/conservatory (weather permitting) -or inside at the dining room table. There are lots of coffee shops and breakfast/brunch places in our neighborhood-One Shot coffee shop is half a block away, others 3-4 blocks...
**Vibrant and urban area...this is the City, definitely not the suburbs! -- with people on the street, buses, traffic, etc...it can be loud, as your room is in the front of the house. Especially in the Spring and Fall, with the windows open.
Room air conditioner in your bedroom (during summer months), Locally made pottery bathroom sink in your bath as well. (not pictured)
Our room starts at $110 a night for one person. It is an extra $20 for a 2nd person, and more on holidays, weekends and summer months. We have a minimal cleaning fee and no security fee. Our house has a lot of antiques. If you break it, you do need to pay for it! No hidden costs. Airbnb does charge a service fee to help us with booking.
Neighborhood is Northern Liberties: Center City Philadelphia. Northern Liberties is a very trendy, artsy section of Philly, similar to the Canal St. Martin/Belleville area in Paris or a bit like the Village or Brooklyn. Lots of cafes, artist galleries, restaurants and coffee shops. The Piazza is less than two blocks away.
It's a nice walk to the Liberty Bell-Constitution Center-Old City; a bit over a mile, or the bus stops right in front of our house. We are right in between the Girard or Spring Garden stops of the Market/Frankford El. About 4 blocks from Girard and 6 blocks from Spring Garden. Check the SEPTA schedule for buses up Spring Garden to get to the Museums.
On street free parking, no meters.
Lots of tasty restaurants are just blocks away. We'd be happy to recommend restaurants in our 'hood or anywhere in Philadelphia.
Susan & Sam
The NY Times ranked Philadelphia #3 on its list of the 52 best places to visit in 2015. Condé Nast Traveler declared Philadelphia the #2 best shopping city in the world! And now, Travel + Leisure is getting in on the Philly love-fest, by declaring Philadelphia to be America’s Next Great Food City.
--Our neighborhood, Northern Liberties was named Philly's Most Hipster 'Hood, Feb, 2014.
--And NY Mag wrote a great blurb about our Airbnb specifically on Aug 31, 2012.
It's called, "Soak up the Art Scene in Philadelphia" by Rebecca Dalzell- "Where to Stay in Philadelphia."
We are one of three places they recommend in Philly!
(*read the paragraph below)
--True Entertainment/Vanity Fair Confidential chose our house to shoot an interview-Nov. 2014.
*NY Mag Review: *"Spread out on the second floor of an 1853 row house at French Philly (from $120), a bed and breakfast run by a friendly couple in trendy Northern Liberties. The space includes a private bathroom and art-filled library, but you can also make use of the downstairs sunroom, decorated with a wine-themed mosaic by local artist Isaiah Zagar. Be sure to mine the owners, who are 30-year residents, for tips on the area like where to find the hidden Maxfield Parrish Mosaic."
--From NY MAG - written by Rebecca Dalzell. Aug 31, 2012.
Guest Access is the entire 2nd floor. We do walk through the 2nd floor hallway to get to our 3rd floor. Our first floor and sunroom is open to guests for morning coffee/tea.
Interaction with Guests
We leave Coffee/Tea out in the morning-to have at your own leisure... help yourself. We might be working upstairs or not far away at our office. However, if you need tourist information, restaurant recommendations, etc. -we are happy to share our love of Philly with you!
Great urban neighborhood with a combination of all types of people, all types of restaurants/ shops, and more coffee shops than you can imagine!
*It does get noisy at night, especially on weekend nights, with people out and about, buses, etc! Especially with the windows open in the Spring and Fall.
The 57 bus stops right in front of our house. The Spring Garden or Girard subway on the Market/Frankford El line are within 4-6 blocks away. Or, it's a bit over a mile to walk to the Liberty Bell and tourist sights, we do it all the time!
Other Things to Note
We welcome you to our home. You are staying on a floor of our house, not a fancy B&B. Your bedroom/bathroom are private, we respect your privacy....but please note we are not an Inn (No doilies!) or hotel, and we have jobs...which means the check out is at 11am, and the check in at 3pm at the earliest because we can't be there before. It also means that we don't provide services you'll find in a hotel.
Enjoy! We provide Coffee/Tea in the morning.
*We do need to know your arrival time-within the hour if possible. We'd like to make sure we are home to greet you, and could be at work (not far away).
Our kitchen is not available to cook meals and we do not have a microwave. There is a small refrigerator in your room for drinks. No smoking, no pets (although we love them!) - You are staying in a (private)room with a (private) bathroom- in our urban house (vibrant, hip neighborhood)...not a fancy B&B...
Susan and Sam are delightful hosts! They provided a wealth of helpful information about places to eat and visit during our stay in Philadelphia, and were wonderful conversationalists. This was our first Airbnb experience and won't be our last. Merci beaucoup, Susan and Sam!
Susan & Sam are nice hosters. I can tell that they are trying their best to make me feel at home. I have a very good time staying at their nicely decorated home. I enjoyed it very much. Thanks Susan & Sam! Hope to see you again.
Loved Susan and Sam's place. It is really in an ideal location and spacious, cozy atmosphere. I ended up arriving late and Susan and Sam were very accommodating. Plus, they are a super interesting/cool couple! I look forward to coming back
Susan and Sam were convivial and gracious from start to finish. Their home was comfortable, well arranged, clean and inviting as were they during our stay. We found the list of restaurants, museums and sights of interest particularly informative and considerate. We enjoyed staying at their lovely home and will return!
Susan and Sam's home is located in a cute and hip neighborhood less than a mile away from the piers. My husband and I really appreciated Susan and Sam's flexibility and easy-going manner in the planning phase of our trip and during our stay. The home is beautifully appointed with a collection of art and memories from their travels in France. My husband and I really enjoyed sharing travel stories in their sunroom featuring a gorgeous custom mosaic. The bed is also very comfortable and the house is cozy and quiet. Slept like angels. The bathroom has a collection of travel toiletries if you forgot something in your rush out the door for your trip. Although we were only in town for a very short while, Susan and Sam made us feel relaxed, welcomed, and at home. We highly recommend their abode and would be happy to return the next time we're in Philly!
Susan and Sam were gracious hosts who made us feel at home during our stay. They provided us with a great deal of privacy and amenities, including snacks and bottled water. We especially enjoyed having a light breakfast with them in their beautiful sun room before we checked out. We would love to stay here again.
