Description

The Space

Think of it as a retreat away from the hustle and bustle-great for creatives that need some time away to think, write, generate new work ideas. This studio apartment is a fully furnished efficiency with everything you need for a stay in New Orleans (except a t.v.-free wi-fi instead.)

In apartment there's a small gas stove and oven, fridge, private bathroom with clawfoot tub and shower, central A/C + an additional window unit, central heat, alarm system, free wi-fi and parking is located on side of the house (corner lot). Water, gas and energy is included. Shared laundry by request. If you want to overflow into another room, for guests or storage than I can accommodate for an additional $100.00 per month and have another bed available.

Located centrally in Faubourg St. John, it's a short bicycle ride to the quarter or City Park. Walking distance to numerous terrific restaurants such as Cafe'Degas, Lola's, Santa Fe, Nona Mia's and more. Coffee houses are steps away too as well as two mom and pop grocery stores. Also there's a streetcar within walking distance. It's a little summer retreat with swimming pool just down the street!. You can have privacy as the apartment is set off the street with its own side entrance. Shared garden in the backyard for those that like to wake up to the morning sun or pick herbs for cooking. I have 2 small dogs and a cat on my side of the house, and all are in yard occasionally. Also, if you are interested in finding out about some of the local haunts, or suggested places to catch music etc, I'll be glad to make suggestions for you! If you're even considering New Orleans as a destination, get in touch right away!

Guest Access

Washer/dryer by appointment. Room opens to backyard. Backyard is shared. You are welcome to store your bicycle in yard. I also have 2 bicycles available if interested for a small fee (male and female bikes)

Interaction with Guests

I usually introduce myself to the guest initially. But I respect privacy. The backyard is shared and is used as needed. Feel free to say hello or ask questions if you have any. Text, email or catch me when I'm in the gardens in the mornings. Happy to point you in the direction of wonderful things happening around town.

The Neighborhood

My neighborhood is diverse, working class and very special. It's a cross section of the city, with musicians, writers, anthropologists, artists, and young lawyers, doctors, etc mixed. Everyone knows each other and greets each other kindly. During jazz fest, it's amazing to see the neighborhood unfold with music and good cheer. A brass band may walk by playing. Young musicians practice at a nearby school preparing for Mardi Gras. While New Orleans has its crime issues, this neighborhood is filled with people looking out for each other. As a result, the community fiber is strong, resilient and compassionate.

Getting Around

There's a bus on Esplanade Avenue that runs in the directions of the French Quarter and City Park and connecting buses will take you to Uptown, downtown etc. There is a streetcar within walking distance that takes you to Canal Street and downtown. Since it's "mid- city" the location is central and easy to get to so much by bike or car....the Central Business District, Convention Center, the Lakefront, French Quarter. Within walking distance is City Park, New Orleans Museum of Art, Bayou St. John, coffee houses many restaurants, grocery...etc

Other Things to Note

If you want to overflow into another room, for guests or storage than I can accommodate for an additional $100.00 per month. Bicycles are available for male or female for a small fee.
Regarding the neighborhood, the unexpected brass band might walk by playing their hearts out, with people dropping in behind them…dancing and singing along-or a bizarre bicycle gang with radiant colorful lights sprinkled all over their bikes might weave through the streets on a Thursday evening just after dark. It's an odd place but memorable- and totally what a porch was made for. Who needs a T.V when you live in N'awlins dawlin. When it gets hot, there's of course AC but there's also snowballs all over town! Don't miss them. Or make your own with some of the mint in the backyard. that's all-just sayin. If you're planning on moving around at night-please be careful. Crime is an issue walking or riding bikes at night-Taxis may be the best way to go after dark.
