The Space

Ca’ Perla is an elegant apartment in one of the most authentic parts of Venice. It is situated in the Giardini/Biennale area, next to the historic site of the Corderie and a couple of minutes walk from Riva degli Schiavoni (beautiful lagoon side walk to San Marco Square). The flat is close to transport links for Lido (beaches), Giudecca, San Giorgio, Rialto, Murano and (website hidden)’ Perla is a two bedrooms flat, in the first floor. It is with a spacious double bedroom, a single room, a bathroom with shower, a living-room with a cooking corner and with a double sofa-bed and a garden.
The flat has independent heating, air conditioning, fully furnished. Iron, kettle, hairdresser, TV and internet wi-fi are included.

The final cleaning (50€) and tourist tax are not included and to be payed by cash in the flat during the check-in.

All the tourists who will stay in Venice will have to pay a fee of 1,50€ per person/night up to a maximum of 5 nights (from the 6th night onwards you pay nothing). There will be reductions of 50% for children aged between 10 and 16 years. And 30% for the periods of medium / low season (1° dec/31 Jan.) The fee will be collected by me during check-in by cash.

In case of long stay - more then 20 days - the general fees (water / electricity / gas and garbage) will be calculated according to actual consumption of the guest (on average 60€/90€ per month).

Guest Access

Very nice and venetian area, full of shots, restaurants, arts, culture and supermarket and a little market on the street.

It is closed to Giardini-Biennale, Giardini and San Pietro stops.

All my guests can use all the things and ammenities that they'll find on the flat.

Interaction with Guests

I explain to my guests how to reach me and my flat and then meet them at the nearest vaporetto stop.
I take my time to explain them a few things about the house and all the suggestions that I can about Venice.
During their staying I am always at disposal and they can contact me via email, text message or calling.

The Neighborhood

The flat is 2 minutes walking distance from the Giardini/Biennale vaporetto stop and approximately 10 minutes walk from Piazza S. Marco - St. Mark Square.
Out of the mass and very venitian

Getting around

The apartment is located in the district of Castello, very central zone and inhabited by Venetians; convenient to all the vaporetto's lines from Giardini and San PIetro's stops, including at Arsenale stop the Alilaguna (shuttle to and from Marco Polo airport). Nearby there are restaurants, shops and supermarkets. It is less than 15 minutes from Piazza San Marco.

  • I'll summarize our experience, overall is was great except for a few things.

Pros: The apt is nice, new and remodeled. It also has air conditioning, which is a great asset when it's hot and humid in Venice as it was during our stay there. Irene provided us with pretty much everything for the 3 of us to stay comfortably in the apt. Except there were only 2 cups, but a few days into our stay she brought a third one for us. The apt is also close to 2 vaporreto (water bus) stops, which is very convenient. Although vaporettos are expensive so just something to keep in mind. The location is also nice, more residential neighborhood and away from the crowds. There are also stores near by to buy food.

Cons: This is more of a personal preference and experience. We had a few loud nights from the neighbors above us, they had a few parties and were loud late into the morning until about 1am or so....Overall it was just a few nights that it was noisy. The apt is a bit far from the main attractions, still walking distance about 15-20 min from San Marco, but in the heat & humidity it's not as easy to walk every day to and from the apt. There's a vaporreto close by, but it's not cheap to travel every day, so just depends how long you plan to stay in Venice and what you plan to do/see. Also in my opinion the vaporreto tickets are very tricky, the ticket is for hours, so for ex. 12 hours travel card for 18 euros, but will you really travel all those 12 hours? The answer is no, since by the time you want to go back from somewhere the ticket will expire and you need to buy a new one. So just plan accordingly.

Overall, this a nice apt and we had a great stay except for the last day when we left. After some email exchanges with Irene about the best way to go to the airport early in the morning she offered to ordered us a taxi, which was great. The only problem the taxi never showed up. Not sure exactly what happened, Irene said she emailed the taxi company, the taxi company said they couldn't find the order and that most people just call, so not really sure why Irene didn't call them or what happened. Anyway, it was a big issue for my sister and brother-in-law to get to the airport, last minute frantic calls to the taxi company at 5:30am to get a new taxi, paying twice as much money to get to the airport on time, the stress, worry...etc. In the end they made the flight with minutes to spare so luckily it all turned out fine. I guess my only advice - just call to order a taxi by yourself even if you don't speak Italian and the taxi company doesn't really understand English/you...

  • It was all fine, Irene was friendly and helpful, despite me being late. The apartment was clean and quiet with a well equipped kitchen, also only seconds away from the Giardini which is perfect for the Biennale.
I had a very good experience.

  • Although we were off to a bit of a rocky start, having booked and confirmed with Airbnb the other apartment Irene rents in the Cannaregio area (New Flat in Strada Nova) only to be told by Irene that it was not available for the dates we had it booked, Irene offered us the Biennale (Biennale - great and cosy flat) apartment at the same rate for our stay (the other was a little cheaper at that time). As one in our group was in her 80's I had specifically chosen the Cannaregio apartment as it was closer to pretty much everything we were going to need, and indeed it proved that distance of the Biennale apartment was a bit too far for her to comfortably manage. One thing to be aware of is that bridges in Venice are stepped - not ramped. Difficult for dragging up heavy luggage or elderly people to cross. However for the younger and stronger this would not be as much of a problem. The apartment itself was nice, exactly as pictured. It was on the first floor (so one long flight of steps up from street level - 13 steps I believe), so it was safe and secure. Only thing missing from kitchen was a microwave, but that wasn't an issue for us. Check the dishes before you use them as apparently not everyone knows how to wash dishes well by hand. We did use the laundry line outside the window but dried undies and such on the rack inside. The washing machine required a little study since we forgot to get instructions for use from Irene when she showed us to the apartment after meeting us at the nearest vaparetto stop and accompanied us while helping with the luggage upon our arrival. The location of the apartment itself was in a quiet average residential area of the city and felt safe to be wandering around. The Biennale gardens closeby were a nice reprieve from all the noise and bustle of the main tourist areas of the city. Not having a lot of time available I did use the ground floor patio (accessible to the other residences in the building) only for morning coffee and enjoyed the sunshine, birds chirping, and the church bells in the surrounding area. The closest shopping and eating area is the Via Giuseppe Garibaldi which is only a few blocks away. There are a few grocery stores and markets and a number of restaurants there. Altogether we did enjoy this apartment and Irene was a friendly and helpful host, staying in contact with us during our few days there, and offering to help with anything should we need it.

    Response from Irene:

    Dear Carmen,
thank you for your review but I have a few things to specify, as I always try to make the holidays of my guests more simple and relaxing, and your words do not give justice to my work/behavior and I care very much about it.
    1. sometimes during the chatting to finalized a booking could happen that another guest make an "istant booking" and the only thing that I can do is advise asap the other potential guests and offer an alternative. Like happened with you (with a DISCOUNT).
    2. On our emails I've specify the number of steps (easy- 10 in total) to get to the flat. And that arriving with the Alilaguna you can take a vaporetto to reach Giardini (and of course not walking). But those are personal decisions. I always try to make the arrival trip easier with suggestions, information and useful links.
    3. My check in take about 20/30 minutes because I always take my time to explain to my guests how works the things on the house like how use the washing machine, how open/close the moskito net, the aircon, the wifi and even the clothes line! as I know that could be different from home. Another reason why I explain how works things is that I don't want that anyone have the washing machine If they don't know how works as it could be easy to broke it, as per all the household appliances on a normal house.
    4. As per description there is not the microwave, and It is our choice to do not add it. We (Italian) love to cook on the oven and cooker and Cà Perla flat is exactly like a typical venetian family home.
    5. The patio, as shown the pictures, is big and SEPARATE in 2 parts (1 for this flat and the other for another one - only 1! not all the building that - at anyway - means other 2 potential families). The only thing in common is the entrance door.

  • Irene's apartment gave us a genuine experience of living in a typical Venetian neighbourhood. It was as per the photos, clean, and included everything we needed for our stay. There was very good security. The apartment was very close to the vaporetto stop, so we could go anywhere we wanted easily. Conveniences were close, and Irene was a delightful and caring hostess. The shower was the only one that we had encountered in the last 15 apartments since leaving Australia on 25th Nov 2013, that had the ability to adjust the temperature, and the pressure at the same time. Irene answered all of our questions promptly, and was very helpful.

  • I stayed in Irenes apartment with 3 generations: my daughter (12 years old), I am 47, my mum is 90. We had a wonderful stay, very much thanks to the great place. It is cosy, it is close to the center, but it is in a very quiet and green neighborhood, only 5 minutes from the vaporetto (boat) that takes you anywhere you want to go. It is close to a supermarket, close to restaurants, just great.
The space is big enough for 3 or even more people. If you have more than 3 guests they will have to sleep on the bed-couch in the living room.
The place is clean, instructions are clear, everything you need is there. Irene is very good at communication, she replies quickly, was there to meet us and helped us find our way around the neighborhood. I definitely recommend everyone: stay there. If i ever go back to Venice I will surely stay here again!

  • Irene welcomed us very kindly and put a lot of information at our disposal.
The apartment is in a very quiet area. You can feel at home away from the tourist crowds. It is silent and comfortable. It has one large and one small bedroom.
The apartment is well equipped. We appreciated being left some sugar, vinegar, tea, coffee, etc. It's good to get all this when you rent a home for a few days.
The grocery and bakery are only 200 to 300 meters away. Very convenient.
Not to forget Venice. An exceptional city and a wonderful cultural experience.

  • My daughter and I had a wonderful visit to Venice thanks to Irene and her hospitality. The neighborhood was quiet and completely void of tourists, which was exactly what we wanted. We shopped the little markets with the other neighborhood residents, and walked everywhere. The location was absolutely perfect, and Irene was extremely helpful to us when we were navigating the travel arrangements on a day when the water buses were on strike (not uncommon, and completely fine, by the way. The apartment was clean and served our purposes perfectly. Thank you, Irene!

  • We very much enjoyed our stay at Irene's flat. She was easy to deal with and gave us good information about the flat and the city. The flat was very comfortable and had everything we needed and was in a nice quiet neighbourhood. It was a bit of a walk from the main area but it was nice to get away from all the crowds. Very close to the vaporetto stop too, which made it easy to get in and out of town with our suitcases.
