The Space

You are invited to stay in a spacious self contained duplex brilliantly located close to public transport, the Swan River, the Perth CBD and the popular Mt Lawley cafe strip. With contemporary art and retro furniture throughout, the home has an eclectic style and comfort as well, including great beds*, a well-equipped kitchen and a deep bath. A balcony set in the treetops is the perfect place to enjoy BBQs and breakfast.

Reliable wifi is available throughout.

The duplex is attached to (but very independent from) our family home. An "Eclectic Room for 1 or 2 Guests" (our other Airbnb listing) is on 'our' side of the building. A shared laundry with washing machine is located on the ground floor at the rear of the house.

The duplex is set in a huge enchanted backyard with a mini eucalyptus forest, productive banana trees, vegi gardens all fed from 2 natural springs. The kitchen benches in our family home are made of wood milled from a Queensland Mahogany planted in our yard over 28 years ago. Our solar-powered electricity, rain water collection, recycling and composting will appeal to guests seeking green-accommodation. Lola, our golden cocker spaniel, will also delight!

The Swan River is at the end of the street ~ a gorgeous walk (or bike ride) in one direction takes you to the free CAT bus in East Perth, inlet cafes, Perth City Farm** and the Perth CBD. The pathway in the other direction meanders for miles through wetlands and parks. Our canoe, called 'Carrot', and a range of push bikes & helmets are available to guests.

The duplex is just 10mins drive from the domestic airport (20mins from the international) and 3mins from the interstate train station. Off road parking is available at the front of the duplex.

* The walnut veneer bedroom suite has a comfortable double-bed and a choice of pillow-types. Sheets are organic, bio-dynamic cotton. Cleaning products and hand wash are all eco-friendly. A single futon bed is located in the lounge + privacy screen if required. A sweet Moses basket and a travel cot are available for guests with little ones.

** Perth City Farm has a fabulous coffee shop and organic produce markets on every Saturday from 7am - noon.

  • In all honesty this was my very first AirBNB experience & I was very apprehensive. From first contact Linda made me feel very comfortable with the whole booking /paying experience.
The home has a very warm & comfortable feel, from the moment you enter, it is spotlessly clean, has all the kitchen utensils you could possibly need & is very quirky!!
Bed is comfy, excellent phone & wifi reception.
Although Linda, Ian, Oliver & dearest Lola reside next door, you have total privacy, including your very own leafy balcony.
We were there for Mothers Day & invited our friends over for break-fast, & entertained them on the balcony. A tropical (website hidden) Lawley is a leafy, inner-city suburb of Perth, well serviced with bus & train & boasting arguably one of Perth's most popular coffee/restaurant strips on well known Beaufort Street.
Close proximity to the river, which has great walking & bike tracks (bikes & helmets kindly supplied)
All in all we had a memorable experience & would recommend, if you are looking for something a little more different to the norm.

  • We have been traveling for two months and needed a relaxing place to stay. This was it. We didn't want to leave. The treehouse balcony went beyond our expectations and we spent every morning there drinking our coffee feeling like we were in a tropical rain forest. The house is comfy with a colourful bohemian flare, a spacious bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room for our 15 year old. The kitchen is well appointed and we made our dinners there most nights. Ian and Linda were incredibly friendly and helpful while at the same time very cognizant of our privacy. This was a welcome space after a day in the bustling building boom of Perth and drought like conditions. Once you entered the house, you felt like you were in Indonesia. The house is also very convenient to public transportation with two train stations a 5-10 minute walk and the free cat bus just 20 minutes walk along the river park. We didn't miss having a car at all.

  • We stayed with Linda, Ian, Oli and Lola for just over two weeks while house hunting in Perth. The family is absolutely lovely and from the beginning we felt as though we were staying with good friends. We stayed both in the 'unique home' and the 'eclectic room' as the unique home had already been booked for part of our stay. Both the self-contained apartment and the big room in Linda and Ian's house were spotlessly clean, comfortable and private.

There is a lovely park with a jetty two minutes walk away and the Mount Lawley cafe strip is not far away either. We walked into the city for a Fringe show in 40mins and drove to the dog beach at Scarborough in 20 mins.

Staying at Linda and Ian's beautiful home has been a wonderful introduction to Perth for us. We already miss the shady garden (possibly the only green we've seen since moving to Perth), the comfortable bed, the gas kitchen (our new kitchen is electric and it took me fifteen minutes to cook an egg this morning) and the breezy balcony. Somehow it stays cool at Linda and Ian's, though the rest of the city is blistering.

Our dog Keen already misses floppy-eared Lola and is moping about with nobody to play with.

  • An absolutely delightful stay. Linda and Ian were friendly, accommodating, and very private. The duplex is eclectic yet comfortable and had a calming and serene vibe about it. The treetop patio was perfect for lazy sunday breakfasts and afternoon cocktails :)

  • Welcoming hosts, beautiful house and - perhaps most importantly - a lovely dog! We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the house.

  • Absolutely fabulous, an oasis of calm after long haul flight, quirky, clean and comfortable, helpful hosts and delightful doggy with best perm. A really lovely place to stay, faultless.

  • Staying at Linda and Ian's house, in our own private duplex, was fantastic! The house is spacious and comfortable, with beautiful sunlight coming through the bedroom window in the morning, fantastic wallpaper in the bathroom, a deep bathtub for relaxing, and a large kitchen, where the focus is on the dining table. We spent 5 nights, relaxing at the house and on the back verandah, and within easy reach of the train station only a few stops to Perth. The area is lovely, a couple of minutes walk and you're at the river. The house was very well stocked with everything you could need, and Linda and her family were wonderful hosts, giving us advice about where to go, what to see and where to eat. It was a pleasure to stay with such a great local family. I hope to visit again :) Best accommodation in Perth!

  • A home away from home in a fantastic location so close to beautiful river walks, public transport to the city and the funky Beaufort street strip. Considerate touches such as children's books and kitchen supplies made our visit an absolute pleasure.

Hi, we're Linda & Ian and we're lucky enough to live on an amazing patch of Earth in Perth with our 17yo son Oli* and our golden cocker spaniel Lola. We love sharing our home of 28 years with visitors and the 'fix rather than replace' motto we've used to decorate and maintain it! It means it's quirky as well as comfy and all with a low planetary foot-print : ) We're especially proud of our kitchen benches which are crafted from timber milled from a tree we planted over our 27yo son's placenta soon after we moved in. We love yoga, meditation, being resourceful, designing houses, listening to music (most sorts), movies (making & writing them occasionally too!), karaoke-for-therapy and social justice! Our 1st experience of Airbnb was in New York where we stayed on a heritage-listed ferry boat anchored in New Jersey - the views across the Hudson of the Manhattan skyline were amazing!!! We love Airbnb because it's contributing to the development of the 'new currency of reputation and trust'. There's a couple of powerful TED talks by Rachel Botsman on 'collaborative consumption' that you might like to check out on Youtube - the most recent one talks about Airbnb. We have 2 listings on Airbnb (a funky room & a self-contained duplex) so please take a look at both. Looking forward to hearing from you soon : ) * Oli speaks pretty good Italian!
