About this listing
Lagrasse is classed as "One of the Most Beautiful Villages of France." My house was built in 1532 and has been remodeled may times in those years. It's now a cosy artist's retreat in the center of this beautiful area with many nearby attractions.
Historic & charming yet totally renovated and comfortable in Lagrasse, One of the Most Beautiful Villages of France. Close to the Mediterranean, amidst the vineyards and perfect for visiting the Cathar Castles, as well a hiking, biking, wine tasting and generally enjoying a joie de vivre! Close to Carcassonne, Narbonne, Perpignan and of course, Collioure.
Ypu will have the entire house, which is located on what the French call the first floor, and Americans call the second floor. That floor contains a nice size living room, charming combination kitchen / dining room and a 1/2 bath, or water closet. Upstairs are the 3 bedrooms and a full bath with a tub. Two of the bedrooms have double beds and one has a single bed - best for a child or short person.
Interaction with Guests
When I am not there, your hostess is Amelie, who speaks French and English and German.
As a Medieval Village, Lagrasse abounds in history! Known as"La Maison Lautier", there are charming paintings under the over-hang of this timber-framed house. Across the street is a unique boutique; several artist galleries are around the corner. In season, there are 5 restaurants a cafe, and a pizza stand. In the summer there are many music festivals, and of course there is wine-tasting year round, as there are 5 vintners in town. My favorite is "La Jument Rouse" / The Russet Mare, run by Sandrine Peuch.
Cars are a must, as taxies are frankly, pricey, and public transportation is mysterious.
Other Things to Note
On the ground floor you will find beautiful hand-crafted items made by Marthe and Sonia.
This is strictly, very strickly, a non-smoking house. Because it is a Medieval house, be warned that the stairs are narrow and steep. Although I have a dog, please inquire before bringing fido. Cats are not allowed.

I have traveled with my now in heaven 15+ year old Yellow Lab, Pastis, from N. California to Lagrasse, France, to Ouray, Colorado with an attitude of gratitude for the years I was able to do so. I appreciate the beauty and the friends I have met in each of these marvelous places, as well as the wonderful experences.
" La vie est courte; il faut savoir enprofiter" / Life is short; we need to know how to enjoy it.
As a past Triathlete (14x Ironman) and runner (38 marathons, 8 ultras including Western States 100), I still hike & bike & swim, but leisurely. I call myself an artist, yet need to get back to my drawing board. There're already too many paintings on my walls yet I don't try and sell them anymore. Photography is my hobby, with slide shows posted on Youtube my game.
I like to rent my house in Lagrasse to people with similar interests, as it's a great place to hike & bike & wine-taste & generally enjoy quality of life.
