We were six people travelling together, and three of us were old ladies aged 75-82. During the process of negotiations with Nicholas I have stressed several times in advance that a low floor and late check-out time from Dublin apartment (20:30 in the evening) are very important factors for us. I have received no objections from Nicholas and hoped that everything will match prior arrangements and agreements. The first surprise came when my cousin came to the apartment before us. It turned out that our apartment was occupied by other people. My cousin with his daughter waited for the solution of this problem for half a day, and only in the evening she got a confirmation that all of us have to spend the night in another apartment, while waiting for the release of the apartment booked by us. This temporary apartment was on the 4th or 5th floor of an old building with no elevator, to which our elderly ladies and us had to climb with suitcases after a long and difficult flight. The next day after 15:00 assistants Carl and Luis were supposed to come to move our bags to the apartment booked. Contrary to our agreement, Carl has not showed up. Luis came and tried to help, but he alone could not carry the bags of 6 people, so we had to move the bags mostly ourselves.
Minor inconveniences such as broken lamps in the room and the lack of blankets and towels were solved relatively quickly.
But on the day of the departure another surprise awaited us.
Carl told us that we have to vacate the premises at 17:00, and at the same time the new tenants - 5 young people from Germany – appeared in the apartment. I explained to Carl that this is not what was agreed, and this is not what we paid for. Agreed check-out time was 20:30. The reason for such an agreement was, that me and my relatives were in a need of rest before a long night flight and could not leave the apartment before 20:30. Carl suggested us to wait meanwhile in the apartment on the 4th floor without elevator, where we spent the first night. Fortunately, the young guys from Germany immediately said they can go for a walk for 3 hours in the city until we vacate the apartment, for which I am very grateful to them. My mom, aged 82, was very much upset by the situation and had to take a sedative. She currently suffers of the problems with the heart caused by the unfortunate Dublin trip.
We are considering submitting a law suit against Nicolas and Karl, who caused my mother distress and illness by their harmful behavior toward us and their lack of responsibility. However, we might be satisfied if Nicolas apologizes sincerely and pays us a symbolic sum of the total amount of two nights fee (for the first and last night) as a compensation for the damages caused.
The pictures in the listing were not reflective of the place I stayed. Indeed I think they were pictures of a different apartment, although perhaps it was another apartment the owner rents out this apartment we stayed in was not nearly as nice. The apartment was also not ready at the agreed upon time, when I arrived it had not been cleaned at all. This may not have been the owners fault as it was obvious the previous renters had trashed the place but it should not have been my problem, and it interrupted my plans for the day. I found it very strange that none of the doors had locks on them including the bathroom. This is someone suspect as another person was staying in the apartment that in another room that I didn't know! I would have been much more comfortable if I could lock up the bathroom and my possessions. The apartment is exactly where it was supposed to be and the location is excellent, if this is your primary concern than this may be the place for you.
You can't beat the location. Right above Temple Bar and central to other Dublin sites of interest. Answered all my questions and was very flexible with the check in and check out. Will rent from him again.
The central location of the appartment was definitely a plus.
However the appartment was dirty and hadn't been cleaned up before our arrival. The room was very small for three people. To sum up, except for the location, this was a bad value for money.
Apologise for this experience, and following lot of bads comments, I am reorganising my Airbnb and fired my housekeeper ! Regarding the value, I would like to check Dublin's price hoStel and you will notice that my place is cheap regarding the location, but cheap doesn t excuse the cleaning ....
