The Space

Looking through the back side windows of this house feels like being in England. Church bells / steeples on 3 sides , no views of Main Street and a marsh-like floodplain to the south. Residence has two upstairs bedrooms with shared full bath, an impressive, south-facing kitchen, 1/2 bath on main floor, central entry (for boot removal), large paneled living room with fireplace, and central dining space beside TV-family area.

This is located about 300 yards from Route 7, 5 miles south of Great Barrington and 10 miles from both Catamount and Butternut Ski Areas.

Sheffield is about a 2 1/2 hour commute from central Manhattan and Boston. Peter Pan Bus stop is within walking distance of house.

Many restaurants dot Route 7 including two diner-like options to the south, and no less than 6 very different restaurants to the north. Great Barrington has multiple entertainment venues. The best known are Triplex Cinema and Mahaiwe Theater.

Summer activities which are close at hand include access to Housatonic River, bike and hiking trails and ropes courses, etc. at ski areas. Berkshire School is also less than 3 miles distant.

  • This is such a great little cottage. We really enjoyed our stay. Within walking distance (email hidden) and marketplace for a quick coffee or lunch. Easy to find and the Host was great. Was available if we needed anything but not bothersome. We loved sitting out on the stone patio out back for some sun and relaxation. We would definitely stay here again as we loved our stay in the Berkshires.

I am a landscape historian who has left the world of desks to spend more time outdoors. I now thrive in the Berkshires: landscaping in warmer months and teaching downhill skiing once the snows stick. The ski resort where I work is too far from Sheffield to commute, so I rent my home with all its conveniencies, fully furnished, monthly during the winter. During summertime, it is available when notice is well in advance. Rate is higher between June 1 and October 15th.
