Unlike many other hosts who say that you'll be staying in the “heart of Hollywood” or in the "best location," I’m telling you the truth when I say it.
If your goal is to be in the DEAD CENTER of Hollywood, this is it. If your goal is to buy crack and smell stale urine when you walk outside, stay at one of the listings on Gower or Whitley... or if you're feeling extra lucky, El Centro.
No need to pay $15 for “just a 5-minute cab ride” or walk “just a few blocks” (and hope you don’t get stabbed or step on a syringe or hobo discharge) from your residence to the good part because you’ll be living in the good part! This is not El Centro, Wilcox, Detroit or some mystery location "off Franklin."
The building location is at the foot of the Hollywood Hills, at Hollywood Blvd. & Highland Ave., literally right behind the new Loews Hollywood Hotel (formerly The Renaissance Hotel), one of the most popular hotels in Los Angeles. Current (March) nightly rate at The Loews for a basic room with 1 bed is $289 + 14% tax. A basic suite starts at $329 + 14% tax. My ENTIRE apartment starts at $95 + airbnb fees (varies according to day of week/time of year), no tax.
You will have privacy and quiet because the apartment SHARES NO WALLS with neighboring units. It is on the second floor of a 2-story building, so you won't have people above you tap-dancing in stilettos at 4 AM.
Walk out the front door, turn left, you're inside the Hollywood & Highland complex within a minute, turn right and walk up into the hills.
Locate the Loews Hotel on a map and you will see the central location of my apartment, ideal as your base for exploring Hollywood and the rest of LA. You will be surrounded by everything Hollywood has to offer... bars, clubs, restaurants, theaters, museums, shops, street performers, hikes into the hills, etc.
The entrance to the famous Hollywood & Highland Center (Kodak Theater / Dolby Theater, shopping center, Hooters, Dave & Buster's, Metro Red Line, Lucky Strike Bowling, Cabo Wabo Cantina, etc.) is less than 100 feet away. Universal Studios is 1 stop away on the Red Line.
I got this place as a little guest house for my mother and my friends to stay in when they come to visit me in LA. Accordingly, it’s safe, clean, quiet and equipped with good stuff inside, most of which--like the queen bed/pillow-top mattress, fold-out sofa, dining set, coffee table, bar stools, microwave, high-speed router, and big screen HDTV, smart Blu-Ray player--is new. No granny furniture that smells like moths and bourbon.
The apartment was renovated in October 2012 with new floors, paint, sinks, counters, vanity, and fixtures. No pets or smoking permitted inside, so no unfortunate odors or hairs to cope with.
The place is located on a tiny, hidden, cul-de-sac street with no outlet onto Hollywood Blvd via car and no parking allowed 24/7 for all but the few permit holders for that block. This means you will avoid the maddening traffic of the surrounding streets and the noise that comes with it... so sleep as long as you want after a Hollywood night out.
The place is truly a secret little oasis in the middle of everything. It's a quiet, laid-back sanctuary where you can re-group between the many fun activities the surrounding area has to offer.
If you’re coming without a car, this place is perfect. Taxis (non-stop at the Loews Hotel downstairs), buses (running up/down Hollywood blvd.) and the metro train are literally STEPS away. The Fresh & Easy grocery store and adjacent CVS Pharmacy are a couple of short blocks away (you’ll walk right past the Mann’s Chinese Theater). No need to drive anywhere.
If you do happen to have a car, the 101 is just around the corner up Highland, making it very easy for you to access the rest of LA.
The space is a cool, simple studio that can accommodate 3 comfortably. There's a new queen bed (1-2 people) and a new sofa that folds out into a comfortable full-size bed (1-2 people) with a good quality mattress. Potentially four people can stay in this apartment, but space may get tight (additional fee for more than 2 guests). Closet space is ample.
There's a full kitchen with dining area (accommodating four) and separate dressing area with its own door, closets, vanity, and bathroom. Also, you may (email hidden) area and use it as a work space or just relax, eat, and watch TV. Complimentary Netflix and Amazon Instant Video are also included.
Please see House Rules before finalizing your booking. I have had airbnb guests break these rules before, getting me in trouble with building management and jeopardizing my ability to use the space for short-term rentals.

A parking permit is included with the apartment at no additional fee. The street parking for the building is by permit only. However, a permit will not guarantee you a spot. Typically, parking in the daytime is not a problem, but it can be an issue at night.
If street parking is not available, guests may park in the adjacent parking structure for the Loews Hotel / Hollywood & Highland Center. Here a secured, covered spot is $13 for up to 72 hours. Additionally, two neighboring businesses rent out their spots on a case by case basis (you negotiate price, days, etc. with the proprietor).

•The security deposit is not really a deposit, it's a temporary hold on your card which is removed within 2 days of your departure. This hold is NOT placed at the time of booking but at check-in.
•I'm flexible with check-in and check-out times as the reservation calendar permits. However, late check-outs are subject to an additional fee of $45. You may check in as early as you like PROVIDED I do not have another guest checking out the same day. In this case, check in time is typically 12:00 - 1:00 PM.
•For guests I cannot meet in person for check-in (which is often since I work full-time and travel occasionally) I provide detailed instructions regarding entry into building and apartment. I would either buzz you in remotely or have keys waiting for you near the entrance. So you have the flexibility to check in at any time... late, early, whatever works for you.
•The photos on this listing are a mixture of my own and airbnb verified photos. The outdoor pics included in my listing were taken while walking around the apartment.

Entire apartment, WiFi, big flat-screen TV, smart Blu-Ray player, full kitchen, laundry, smoking areas (no smoking inside of apartment), permit parking. All is yours... nothing shared (including WiFi, it's totally dedicated only to the apartment).
Interaction with Guests
I will provide gate access code to enter the building. Apartment key will be waiting inside. Keys will be left inside of apartment for my cleaning service upon checkout--so no need to see me. If I'm not traveling, I'm available morning to evening via text to help with anything LA related... restaurants, neighborhoods, celeb-watching, cab companies to avoid, whatever you need.
The best feature of this location is that you would be in the dead center of Hollywood, while at the same time on a quiet, safe, cul-du-sac street away from the fun madness of the area. You avoid the noise and traffic (both foot and motor) of Hollywood, yet are only steps away from major attractions. No need for a car since you can walk to all the local hot spots and public transport is everywhere. Hollywood & Highland Center, Roosevelt Hotel, TCL Chinese Theater, Dolby Theater (Oscars, American Idol, etc.), El Capitan Theater (Jimmy Kimmel Live), Hard Rock Cafe, Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum, CVS Pharmancy, Fresh & Easy Grocery Store, Hooters, Dave and Busters, The Frolic Room, Musso and Frank Grill Steakhouse, and literally dozens of other bars and restaurants... all within a few short city blocks!!
Since my building stands about 5 feet from the Loews Hotel, my guests can conveniently use some of the Loews facilities like the bell desk for baggage storage and bar/lounge downstairs in the lobby.
You will be centrally located at Hollywood Blvd. and Highland Ave. The metro red line station entrance is less than 100 meters away (Universal Studios is the next stop northbound) from the front door. Buses run all day north-south on Highland Ave. and east-west on Hollywood Blvd. Taxis are available 24/7 at the Loews Hollywood Hotel right next door (about 30 feet from my front door). Uber and Lyft can usually be at this location in 4 minutes or less. I can provide discount codes for both services.
Other Things to Note
Check-in and check-out are easy and times can be flexible. For check-in, I typically leave keys near the front door for guests to pick up upon arrival. Guests can check in any time unless I have another guest checking out the same day. In this case, check-in usually starts at 1:00PM once the apartment has been professionally cleaned (though bags can be dropped off earlier).
Check-out is typically 1:00 PM if no other guests are arriving that day, otherwise it's 11:00 AM (though I can make special arrangements on a case by case basis). If baggage needs to be stored, guests can use the bell desk at the Loews Hotel next door.
I had only a couple of rules when I started this venture on airbnb. However, due to a few unruly guests who have upset some neighbors, I must now present the following list of rules. This is a quiet building. Please help me keep it that way.
•While you'll be surrounded by nightclubs, restaurants, bars and all matter of fun activities, please do not make this apartment your de facto party pad after everything closes. Noise must be kept low after 10 PM.
•Absolutely no overnight guests allowed who are not disclosed in the original booking.
•No smoking inside of unit. Outside in common areas is fine.
•No pets of any size. Not negotiable so please don't ask.
•No screaming "I'm the king of the world" out the window drunk at 4 AM.
•Permit parking in front of building only. No parking behind the building.
•No OPEN containers of alcohol in any building areas outside of the apartment.
•No pool parties.
•If you happen to be a pimp, prostitute, crystal meth enthusiast, cutter, arsonist, cobra juggler or voted most likely to lurk in your high school, I'm confident you can find other listings on airbnb better suited to your needs.
•Please keep AC off when not inside the apartment.
•Please do not lose the keys or parking permit. Failure to return keys will result in your security deposit being deducted the cost of re-keying the locks and making duplicate keys. Failure to return the parking permit will result in a $100 deduction of your security deposit and I will not have a parking permit for the unit until my July 2015 renewal (since a guest already lost one and I am only allowed 1 replacement per year). So please be careful with these items.
•Upon check-out, leave keys and parking permit on the breakfast bar.
•Please be respectful of my neighbors.
Gene was great about providing very clear check in instructions - which helped to make the whole process very easy. The location is great-very short walk to be right on Hollywood & Highland. Perfect especially if you were attending a Jimmy Kimmel taping.
1st time using Air bnb and our experience was terrific. Gene was great from the beginning, we arrived around midnight on a Friday night and were able to park on the street for easy access to the place. Gene was very detailed about everything, place was very clean and the location was ideal. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great stay!
Perfect location, right in the middle of Hollywood! Gene is a great host and gave us really useful tips on how to get around and good places to go nearby. Can't wait to go back!
Flat was in a great location near Hollywood boulevard and perfect for the 2 of us.
Didn't meet gene but accessing the flat was super easy and he was extremely responsive to all my questions and was very prompt.
