Apartment - Entire home/apt · Orchid Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90028, United States

Dead center of Hollywood! Entire apartment overlooking pool on quiet, cul-du-sac street perfectly situated right in the middle of Hollywood. Hollywood Blvd & Highland Ave less than 35 meters away. Steps to bars, restaurants, metro, theaters, clubs..

The Space

Unlike many other hosts who say that you’ll be staying in the “heart of Hollywood” or in the "best location," I’m telling you the truth when I say it.

If your goal is to be in the DEAD CENTER of Hollywood, you will not beat this location. PERIOD. If your goal is to buy crack and smell stale urine when you walk outside, stay at one of the listings on Gower or Whitley, or the bunk bed hostel on Cosmo. No need to pay $20 for “just a 5-minute cab ride” or walk “just a few blocks” (and hope you don’t get stabbed or step on a syringe or hobo discharge) from your residence to the good part because you’ll be living in the good part! This is not El Centro, Wilcox, Detroit or some mystery location "off Franklin."

This location is at the foot of the Hollywood Hills, at Hollywood Blvd. & Highland Ave., literally right behind the new Loews Hollywood Hotel (formerly The Renaissance Hotel), one of the most popular hotels in Los Angeles. Current (March) nightly rate at The Loews for a basic room with 1 bed is $279 + 14% tax. A basic suite starts at $319 + 14% tax.

You will have privacy and quiet because the apartment SHARES NO WALLS with neighboring units. It is on the second floor of a 2-story building, so there will not be people above you tap-dancing in stilettos and work boots at 4 AM.

Walk out the front door, turn left, you're inside the Hollywood & Highland complex within a minute, turn right and walk up into the hills.

Locate the Loews on a map app and compare it with any airbnb listing claiming to be the BEST BEST BEST LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION in Hollywood and you'll see what I mean. You will be surrounded by everything Hollywood has to offer... bars, clubs, restaurants, theaters, museums, shops, street performers, hikes into the hills, etc.

The entrance to the famous Hollywood & Highland Center (Kodak Theater / Dolby Theater, shopping center, Hard Rock Café, Rolling Stone LA, Metro Red Line, US Post Office, etc.) is less than 100 feet away. Universal Studios is 1 stop away on the Red Line.

I got this place as a little guest house for my mother and my friends to stay in when they come to visit me in LA. Accordingly, it’s safe, clean, quiet and equipped with good stuff inside, most of which--like the queen bed/pillow-top mattress, fold-out sofa, dining set, coffee table, bar stools, microwave, high-speed router, and big screen HDTV--is brand new. No granny furniture that smells like moths and bourbon.

Plentiful sunlight compliments the funky, colorful decor of the place, making you feel you're in LA. In addition to the pool, common area features include a laundry on premises (there's detergent in the apartment) and gated entry.

The apartment was renovated in October 2012 with new floors, paint, sinks, counters, vanity, and fixtures. No pets or smoking permitted inside, so no unfortunate odors or hairs to cope with.

The place is located on a tiny, hidden, cul-de-sac street with no outlet onto Hollywood Blvd via car and no parking allowed 24/7 for all but the few permit holders for that block. This means you will avoid the maddening traffic of the surrounding streets and the noise that comes with it... so sleep as long as you want after a Hollywood night out.

The place is truly a secret little oasis in the middle of everything. It's a quiet, laid-back sanctuary where you can re-group between the many fun activities the surrounding area has to offer.

If you’re coming without a car, this place is perfect. Taxis (non-stop at the Loews Hotel downstairs), buses (running up/down Hollywood blvd.) and the metro train are literally STEPS away. The Fresh & Easy grocery store and adjacent CVS Pharmacy are a couple of short blocks away (you’ll walk right past the Mann’s Chinese Theater). No need to drive anywhere.

If you do happen to have a car, the 101 is just around the corner up Highland, making it very easy for you to access the rest of LA.

If you want to ship stuff you bought in LA back home, the Post Office is spitting distance. If you like live music, walk downstairs in your slippers and enjoy the frequent free shows both at the Rolling Stone Lounge and on outdoor stages of the Hollywood & Highland Center. The Hollywood Bowl is a few blocks up Highland Ave. and the Gibson Amphitheater is 1 stop away on the Red Line downstairs.

The space is a cool, simple studio that can accommodate 3 comfortably. There's a new queen bed (1-2 people) and a new sofa that folds out into a comfortable full-size bed (1-2 people) with a good quality mattress. Potentially four people can stay in this apartment, but space may get tight (additional fee for more than 2 guests). Closet space is ample.

There's a full kitchen with dining area (accommodating four) and separate dressing area with its own door, closets, vanity, and bathroom. Also, you may sit at the bar area and use it as a work space or just relax, eat, and watch TV. Air conditioning is also included.

•Only airbnb verified guests will be booked. If you don't have a complete profile, please complete it prior to making a booking request. The more verifications the better.

•The security deposit is not really a deposit, it's a temporary hold on your card which is removed within 2 days of your departure. This hold is NOT placed at the time of booking but at check-in.

•I'm flexible with check-in and check-out times as the reservation calendar permits. However, late check-outs are subject to an additional fee of $45. You may check in as early as you like PROVIDED I do not have another guest checking out the same day. In this case, check in time is typically (phone number hidden) PM.

•For guests I cannot meet in person for check-in (which is often since I work full-time and travel occasionally) I provide detailed instructions regarding entry into building and apartment. I would either buzz you in remotely or have keys waiting for you near the entrance. So you have the flexibility to check in at any time... late, early, whatever works for you.

•The photos on this listing are a mixture of my own and airbnb verified photos. The outdoor pics included in my listing were taken while walking around the apartment.

•The airbnb "Street View" feature of this listing shows the nearest intersection. It's not the view from the building itself.

•I live just a couple of miles away in West Hollywood. I've been in LA for 12 years and can help you plan your trip and give you suggestions while you're here.

Guest Access

Entire apartment, WiFi, cable big-screen LED TV, full kitchen, pool, laundry, smoking areas (no smoking inside of apartment), permit parking. All is yours... nothing shared (including WiFi, it's totally dedicated only to the apartment). Nothing is off limits.

Interaction with Guests

My interaction with my guests depends on their preference. Some guests prefer to get in and get out with minimal contact with the host. Other guests like a host to be a concierge. I'm fine with either. If I'm not traveling, I'm available morning to evening via text to help with anything LA related... restaurants, neighborhoods, celeb-watching, cab companies to avoid, whatever you need.

The Neighborhood

The best feature of this location is that you would be in the dead center of Hollywood, yet be on a quiet, safe cul-du-sac street away from the fun madness of the area. You avoid the noise and traffic (both foot and motor) of Hollywood, yet are only steps away from major attractions. No need for a car since you can walk to all the local hot spots and public transport is everywhere. Hollywood & Highland Center, Roosevelt Hotel, Mann's Chinese Theater, Dolby Theater (Oscars, American Idol, etc.), El Capitan Theater (Jimmy Kimmel Live), Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum, CVS Pharmancy, Fresh & Easy Grocery Store, plenty of bars and restaurants... all within 1.5 short city blocks!!

Getting around

You will be centrally located at Hollywood Blvd. and Highland Ave. The metro red line station entrance is about 200 feet away (Universal Studios is the next stop northbound) from the front door. Buses run all day north-south on Highland Ave. and east-west on Hollywood Blvd. Taxis are available 24/7 at the Loews Hollywood Hotel right next door (about 30 feet from my front door). Uber can usually be at this location in 4 minutes or less. Uber is better than taxis here.

Other Things to Note

Check-in and check-out are easy and times can be flexible. For check-in, I typically leave keys near the front door for guests to pick up upon arrival. Guests can check in any time unless I have another guest checking out the same day. In this case, check-in usually starts at 1:00PM once the apartment has been professionally cleaned (though bags can be dropped off earlier).

Check-out is typically 1:00 PM if no other guests are arriving that day, otherwise it's 11:00 AM (though I can make special arrangements on a case by case basis). If baggage needs to be stored, guests can use the bell desk at the Loews Hotel next door.

  • I love Gene's place! It's really near to everything...i arrived earlier than expected and had a litlle trouble finding the key! (Flying solo) Lol! But everything turn out fine. Starbucks is just stone throw away, Hard Rock Cafè is just there too... When i got bored i took one of those tourist van that take me around LA. The place is cute and clean! I love his TV, full of TV Series!!! Ugh! Just feel bad I can't stay the whole day to watch! It was my first time to use airbnb and it was a great experience! :) thank you Gene!

  • Hi,
My 13 year old son and I stayed at Gene's place for 2 nights last week. We enjoyed how centrally located the apartment was and that we could ditch the car and walk most places. The place was clean, quiet, and I loved the fact that we had a kitchenette. Gene was very responsive and even though we did not meet, I would highly recommend his rental.

    April 2014
  • Gene is a very flexible and accommodating host, responding promptly to any queries I had - most of which were about LA! His apartment is cosy and he is being 100% honest when he says he is THE CLOSEST to downtown Hollywood - it is literally less than a block away! Despite this, the apartment is serene and quiet, it was spotlessly clean and a great haven to get away from it all! I don't tend to be a "repeat guest" (because there are so many beautiful places in the world), however I would love to stay here again - and I would be very happy to recommend it to my friends, and to you!

    March 2014
  • Just finished a 10-day stay in Gene's studio apartment a few steps away from the Dolby Theater. The apartment is clean, safe and feels very private because the unit doesn't have many neighboring apartments. The WiFi was also great speedy and reliable.

Two of us stayed in the apartment for most of the week but we were able to comfortably squeeze in a third for the weekend. Three girls, one bathroom? Totally worked! There is large closet space and a vanity area outside the bathroom so we were able to stagger getting ready.

Parking is definitely 50/50...if we arrived during the day we could usually find a spot but if you come it at night street parking is taken - but it's pretty easy to park in the mall next door and given how close it is, if you figure out how to use the tunnel connecting the mall to the apartment street, you can be back in the apartment in under 3 minutes (yes...we timed it for fun...).

Gene was also great. A few questions came up during the visit (i.e. we were nervous about turning off the pilot light and wanted clarification on one of the heater knobs) and he called back within minutes to walk us through it.

The perfect place to stay for a small crew who want to be smack dab in Hollywood!

    March 2014
  • We stayed at Gene's for a couple of nights in early march. Aside from a little hassle to gain access (his cleaner had the key and wasn't expecting us until later - however Gene was easily contactable and sorted it out quite quickly) it was a great stay. Bed was comfortable, exactly what we needed after a long flight from Australia, location could not have been better, literally 200m from Hollywood blvd through the back of Hollywood & highland shopping complex. Close to train station so easily accessible from the airport/union station, and it right next to Lowes hotel where there are taxis 24/7, no problems leaving at 5am. Apartment is as described, fully self contained, free wifi with great connection, and sufficiently clean. Only minor issue we had, was that there were no oven trays, oven, but no trays. That has since been resolved :) overall the place was brilliant, and we'd definitely stay again!

  • Genes apartment was exactly as described! The location couldn't have been better-everything was conveniently located and the apartment was perfect for our stay. He was always available to answer questions and offer help. I would highly suggest Genes apartment to anyone who wants to experience being in the heart of Hollywood!

  • My partner and I had a great time in LA and in Gene's apartment. His communication was fast, his apartment had no faults and the location of his apartment was pretty great! We were central to everything we wanted to do. Great base for exploring LA. The street was quiet, but finding parking during the night was difficult, as expected and told by Gene.

Our experience was great and we recommended this apartment if you want to stay central in LA and not have to worry about driving all over the place

  • We had a wonderful time at Gene's place. It was exactly as described and the location was perfect for us. Gene was very friendly and easy to communicate with. I would recommend her place to anyone wanting to be close to the action in Hollywood. Thank You again Gene!

  • We had a great stay at The Hip Homey Retreat in Hollywood. The location is amazing, just a few steps from the highlights in Hollywood. The apartment had everything we needed for a great stay in LA, and I would definitely stay here again if back in town.

  • Gene's place was exactly as described and could not have been located better. Perfect location for short stays when you want to be in it all!
