The Space

Hey!

We're two lovebirds who met in college. Fast forward 7 years later and now, we're married! We originally joined Airbnb as hosts in order to afford the wedding of our dreams. Now, we're still interested in hosting because the experience of meeting new people has been rewarding.

Our home is filled with love and we want our guest to feel rejuvenated, relaxed and well taken care after a stay with us.

Kat is a New York native, who has lived in Brooklyn for the past 6 years. Tonye is a Seattle native and Boston transplant who moved to Brooklyn a year ago. Between the two of us, we offer a perfect mix of newcomer's enthusiasm and seasoned resident's know-how.

Since we both work full-time and have active social lives, our guest will feel as if they have the place mostly to themselves. We're also a phone call or text message away if you have a question or need us to come by for anything.

We live in a spacious and cozy, 2 bedroom + 1 bathroom ground floor brownstone apartment that's handicap accessible.

This listing is for our guest room. We will occupy the master bedroom during reservations.

Our guest bedroom is warm and cozy space featuring a queen size platform bed, dresser, armchair and alarm clock. The room also has two doors, one leading to the hallway and the other, to the living room.

At check-in, you will receive a welcome basket filled with a map of the neighborhood that highlights cafes, bars, restaurants, shops, food markets and subway stations; a list of local cultural institutions and events happening during your visit; and several certificates for nearby eateries.

We also offer: wireless internet, cable television with DVR, video games, a flat screen television that is hooked up to our Netflix account, a fully stocked kitchen that includes a stove, refrigerator, food processor, rice cooker, waffle maker, spices and kitchen staples (sugar, honey, cooking oil, etc.), an air conditioner, iron and ironing board, fresh linens, towels, wash clothes, soap, shampoo and conditioner.

In the bathroom is an incredible chrome showerhead that has a handheld option and 7 spray modes, including pulsating massage, for a luxurious shower experience.

In the living room there's a dining alcove with a table that seats four and also a reading nook with a chalkboard wall for messages, quotes and doodles.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD
----------------------------

Our place is situated in the heart of Brooklyn's culturally diverse and historical Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood. Directly next door is a 24 hour convenience store and deli. Across the street from us is a basketball court, playground and handball court. Along our street is a laundromat, vintage/thrift clothing store, authentic Jamaican restaurant, soul food restaurant, hair salon, barbershop, nail salon, liquor store and several cafes.

We're 2 blocks away from bustling Nostrand Avenue which has a wonderful lounge/restaurant, a huge supermarket, a health food store, plenty of clothing shops, wine shop and Caribbean food stores and restaurants. We're 3 blocks from a very popular authentic Italian restaurant, tons of bars and nightlife options.

Additionally, we're a short bus or train ride away from the Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Crown Heights, Prospect Heights, Park Slope and Williamsburg neighborhoods of Brooklyn. Some of their highlights are: Fort Greene Park, Brooklyn Academy of Music - a multi-art center with international performances and films, Brooklyn Museum, Prospect Park, Children's Museum, Zoo, Botanic Gardens, Fulton Street Mall, Atlantic Center and Barclays Center - a landmark sports and entertainment arena that is home to the NBA's Brooklyn Nets.

  • Kat and Tonye were wonderful hosts who really went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Tonye's guacamole was awesome!

The apartment was handily near the subway station and had some good places to eat nearby. The neighborhood is a bit more sketchy than places like Williamsburg and Brooklyn Heights, but we didn't have any issues.

The bed was comfy and the place had everything we needed. Because the room lacks a window we had to keep the door open on hot summer nights to let the aircon blow through, which was fine, but I guess it's something to bear in mind if you're big on privacy.

All in all, we had a wonderful time. Thanks guys!

  • My stay with Kat and Tonye was great. The room was as pictured and cozy. They were very accommodating and willing to assist in any way. They provided us with directions to anywhere we needed to go and a list of awesome local restaurants. Very nice people with great personalities. I would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone else.

  • Kat and Tonye's place was an amazing base for exploring New York City. The neighbourhood has great food close by (special mentions to Saraghina for pizza and pasta, Peaches for brunch, and Le Paris Dakar for crepes and sandwiches) and is an interesting place to explore. Transport to Manhattan is really easy - the express A train is at Nostrand Avenue about a 5 minute walk away. The room and apartment are comfortable - if a little warm on hot days. Kat and Tonye were away when we first arrived, but took the time to chat to us on the phone about where everything was. When they got home from their own travels, they were warm and welcoming, and lovely to chat to.

  • Kat and Tonye were great hosts, very friendly and helpful with suggestions on what to do and where to eat in the neighborhood. The room is small but comfortable, and the neighborhood has character and some great restaurants (definitely try Peaches, Hothouse, and Saraghina’s!) One tip – the entrance to the apartment is under the front porch stairs, don’t go up the stairs to ring the bell (oops, sorry neighbors). Overall, we had a great stay and can highly recommend this place!

  • Staying with Kat and Tonye was a great experience!! They are both so nice, and willing to help you getting around in NY. Their hospitality is wonderful. Makes you feel at home.
It's easy to go to Mantattan by subway, but we even walked in one and a half hour, crossing the Manhattan brigde, as wel as the Brooklyn bridge.
Their appartment is very nice. You can use their bathroom and kitchen. One little disadvantage is the lack of daylight and fresh air in the bedroom. But the bed is very comfortable, so that wasn't really an issue.
I would command this place to everyone!!!

  • Our stay at Kat and Tonye's place was ... in one word ... amazing. We stayed for 12 nights and never had the feeling we were in their way. After a long day in the city, coming back to their place felt like coming home. They are lovely couple, with an even more lovely wedding video ... (Just ask Tonye ;-)). We never got bored talking to them. They were very helpfull in finding new places to eat, have a drink or visit. They really share their house with their guests. We could use anything, anywhere at anytime. From Tonye's guacamole to Kat's chilli ... We'll miss all of it ;-) THANKS!

  • This was our first time using AirBnB, and Kat & Tonye's welcoming attitude and friendliness assured us that this is a service that we will be using often in the future. Whenever we had questions leading up to our stay, they always responded right away via the inbox. Once we got to their cozy place, they offered lots of suggestions for restaurants and things to do in the city. Tonye gave us some suggestions of apps for our phones that might help us find discounts at local restaurants. They were very open to letting us use anything in their home (TV, XBox, kitchen, etc.), Kat even offered my girlfriend one of her jackets to help keep warm outside in the chilly March weather. We had some great conversations with the two of them, and even watched a movie together. Without us even asking, Tonye surprised us with some incredible mango pina coladas and fresh guacamole!

The bed was the most comfortable that I've ever slept in, and the location was just a short walk to the subway. The apartment is spacious and the bathroom is adequate. They have every TV channel that you could ask for, as well as an array of DVDs and video games. The bedroom is the perfect size for two people.

There is NO reason not to stay here! It's affordable, in a great location, and Kat & Tonye are two awesome hosts! We hope to come back and visit them some day :)

  • Kat and Tonye have been great hosts. As soon as we arrived they made us feel comfortable and they let us use their apartment as if it were our. In the bedroom that is rather spacious there is a coach, a bed that is SO comfortable and a dresser on which there are plenty of books, maps and stuff that have been very helpfull for us to find what we wanted. No trouble happened during our journey thanks to them, they immediately helped us to locate in the city and in the neighborhood. Even if you don't speak english very well (like us) they are very patient and they make sure you really understand what they say and they make sure everything is ok. To summarize it was great to stay at their place, thanks to this we had a wonderful journey! We highly recommend them!
