This is a modern and cozy apartment, full of character and light, set on the third floor (Esq) of an ancient typical Lisbon building in the trendy and vibrant Bairro Alto, known as one of the most attractive and picturesque areas of the Lisbon’s city center. This apartment is part of a group of 7 apartments that we have in this building.
The apartment has one bedroom with a double bed, and a double sofa bed in the living room, nice bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, ready to cook home made meals. Towels and linens at your disposal are included in the price and wireless internet as well.
"Bairro Alto" is known as one of the most attractive and picturesque areas of the Lisbon’s city center. At night, this 17th century colorful district is transformed into the city's vibrant nightlife quarter. The main streets and narrow passageways are bustling with activity of dozens of excellent traditional restaurants, «fado singing houses», cafés, and a multitude of sleek clubs and bars that stay open until late. In recent years, «Bairro Alto» is also an alternative shopping destination, for those looking for trendy design shops, art galleries and bookshops.
Bairro Alto, one of the Lisbon hippest and coolest place.
There are several buses and trams, and subway, 5 minutes away, although one can easily walk to the main points of the city. Two minutes walking is the heart of the glamorous and cosmopolitan city can still be felt in the Chiado, a place where the "new" and "old" live in harmony. Characterized by casual-chic atmosphere, with streets full of shops, fine restaurants, beautiful cobblestone, beautiful churches and timeless cafes, Chiado makes any visitor feel real Lisbon.
Chiado is where Lisbon's history and urbanity meet. This tourist area of the capital begins at the Brasileira café, on Rua Garrett. Opened in 1905. It´s one of Lisbon's postcards. On the side walk café you will find the different urban tribes and a statue of poet Fernando Pessoa, who offers his lap for tourist photos.
Next to it, two churches remind the vanished towers of Santa Catarina Gate. The Church of Loreto, built in 1528 by Italians living in Lisbon, was partially destroyed by the 1755 earthquake, but later rebuilt and one of the places to visit on Chiado. The Church of Encarnação, inaugurated in 1708, was also hit in 1755 and rebuilt later. But Chiado has more than just two churches to see.
Luís de Camões square, which any Lisboner will call Largo Camões, is not just a passing place. Sit on the steps of the poet's monument and enjoy the bustle that Chiado has.
But do not leave Chiado without inquiring about the theatres. São Luiz Municipal Theatre was one of Lisbon's first cinemas. Today it is a municipal theatre with a rich and varied programming. Also glimpse the Teatro Trindade and the S. Carlos Opera House.
This is one of the city´s best shopping areas. You will find international brand shops (Hermès and Hugo Boss, for example) and great Portuguese designers like José António Tenente (Tv. Carmo, 8) StoryTailors (Cç. Do Ferragial, 8) or Atelier Alves/Gonçalves (Tv. Guilherme Cossul, 16).
It is not difficult to come across public figures, mainly artists. There are several art schools in the area, like the Fine Arts Faculty. Even if you are not an expert, venture into the Chiado Museum - National Museum of Contemporary Art (Rua Serpa Pinto, 4) besides well-cared exhibitions, it has a pleasant patio to have lunch or simply sip a coffee. There is also a big offer for meals: Café Royale, New Wok and Kaffee Hause are excellent choices.
To set forth on a discovery of Lisbon, there is no better place to begin: the tram a few steps away, international brand shops at Chiado and the more daring fashions in Bairro Alto, where you also have the trendiest restaurants of Lisbon. Bica neighbourhood, close by, is becoming a night haven for artists and intellectuals. But this does not destroy the calm and charm of Rua das Chagas. For theatre and opera lovers there are three theatre houses at a five minute distance, S. Carlos, S. Luiz and Trindade Theatres.
You are in Lisbon. And Lisbon never stops.
Erg handig!
We kijken terug op een hele fijne vakantie!
We really had a great time in the apartment! We were great received by the hostess, who gave us some tips to visit. The apartment itself was clean and although it's situated in the busy Bairo Alto, it was quiet.
The shower was broken when we arrived, but after a call it was made the next day.
If you like spending your holiday in the center of Lissabon, we would recommend the apartment.
Margarida was really nice and helpful. A nice lady was already in the flat waiting for me to arrive. She even gave me a map and helped with navigation and how to reach tourist destination. The whole building I believe is rented out for short stay. You need to be lucky to get good tenants upstairs as I could hear them talking quite clearly but they were not party animals and they were sleeping past 12 midnight. The stay was pleasant as it was still off peak but the good thing is the apartment is slightly outside of the busy area. However that said, weekend can still be a bit slightly noisier. The apartment itself was clean and tidy. There was an issue with the shower leaking and host tried to fix it asap so you can count on them if there was any issue. Other than that location makes a superb place for night life and travelling.
We fell in love with the wonderful apartement.
A lot of people said, that we would have to handle the "party people" in the Bairro Alto, where the apartement is settled in, but, though there was a lot of going on tonight, it was so quiet and nice, that you could go to bed straight from the bar even before midnight.
Though it was midsummer and there was no aricondition, the apartement is not getting hot. The livingroom with the kitchen, the bathroom and last but not least the amazing bedroom with the lovely painting couldn´t been better for our week in lisbon. We miss it already. Thank you so much.
We´ll come back!
We really enjoyed our stay in this apartment.
It was clean, sunny and all what we needed to enjoy our stay was given.
Despite the description though, or what we misunderstood, this is not a private accommodation. The house is owned by a flat rental company.
Nevertheless, this did not influence our perfect stay in any inconvenient ways.
Just a tip for people who love their sleep without earplugs: sometimes after midnight, the streets of the Bairro Alto - and that is in the whole quarter - can become very lively, no matter how quiet the apartment is situated.
Thank you for a very nice and convenient holiday.
The apartment was great, it was clean, and had lots of light. It's also really close to everything being in central Lisbon.
The apartment is perfect for 2 people but no more, although its advertised for as many as 4. The fold out couch was broken in several places and could not actually be used as a bed, so we had to improvise with the cushions for our 3rd person.
Margarida was a great host, friendly and helpful, even though we arrived almost 2 hours late due to a flight delay. She readily recommended places for us to eat and visit. The apartment is also ideally situated - right in the city center, quite near several major areas, and literally just next door to the main bar area!
This apartment was in the perfect neighborhood in Lisbon - the Bairro Alto. It was central to everything that I wanted to see and do in Lisbon for the three short days that I was there. Restaurants, bars, cafes, and shopping were all a short walk away. The metro stop was close. Checking into and out of the apartment was easy. The actual apartment was clean and spacious for two people (more than that would be cramped). It was also very bright and had a small deck for watching the street below (not big enough to sit out on). I would definitely recommend and stay here again.
A nice, clean and comfortable apartment, which is very quiet despite its central location. I would definitely stay there again and recommend to friends.
Thanks, we had a very comfortable stay in the heart of Lisbon! Very nice apartment, all clean and functional, we slept well. You were very friendly!! hope to come back one day.. cheers!
