The Scottish Borders region
Located approximately 35km south of Edinburgh city centre (with the city by-pass even closer, providing links to Edinburgh Airport and the motorway network) makes this area an excellent choice to base yourself for a touring holiday in southern Scotland.
Add to this, formal and botanic gardens, stately homes and a rich history with ancient monuments and castles all on your doorstep ... there's plenty to keep you busy in the local area itself.
Whilst a car is not essential to enjoy Peebles and its own local attractions, it would be a shame to miss out on a tour of the wider Borders area and north to Edinburgh city itself. Car rental can be arranged on your behalf, or why not contact us and let us organise local tours for you. Tell us the sort of things you want to see and do - and we'll take care of the rest, whether it be sight-seeing, city shopping, walking, amazing beaches & coastlines, historical tours, golfing, botanical gardens or ornithology ... we'll lay on a great holiday for you!
The Peebles area
The Royal Burgh of Peebles is a thriving market town straddling the world renowned river Tweed. The town boasts quality high-street shopping, supermarkets, and numerous leisure and recreational facilities including golf courses, art galleries, museums, a theatre, swimming pool and, more recently, some of the best dedicated mountain-biking venues in the UK. Peebles is renowned for its number and range of independent shops, attracting visitors and tourists from far and wide.
Horse riding, fishing and hill/walking are also very popular local activities. Peebles hosts each year an agricultural show, several road cycling events, and it's own cultural 'Beltane Festival' ... a festival of local legend, history and tradition with roots dating back many centuries.
Activities in and around Peebles:
Golf courses - the nearest of 3 is less than a 15 mins walk.
Fishing - salmon & trout on the River Tweed, or nearby stocked lochs.
Tennis, bowls and squash - all in town
Watersports in the area
The local area is also great for:
Countryside and hill walks
City visits - Edinburgh is just 40mins drive (or by frequent bus service)
Road cycling / touring

I can honestly say that we (parents and three little kids) spent the best holidays ever in Donald's great house in Peebles.
"Your home in the Scottish Borders" is definitely no exaggeration but rather an understatement as you will find a house as good as a home, yet in contrast to your own home you have Donald's excellent service as well. If you wish so, he will arrange everything and anything for you while always respecting your privacy. (Arriving at midday and having to leave in the middle of the night was no problem.) When we arrived there were even enough fresh food supplies to last a day and everything was neat and tidy.
The house is nicely furnished, perfectly equipped (you really need not bring anything but your clothes) and offers enough space as well as some great views. There is parking space right in front of the house, a small garden, TVs and fast WiFi internet access. It does not take more than a minute to reach the closest supermarket and take-aways (two minutes to Peebles High Street), yet it is completely calm and quiet.
Peebles is a nice town with many nice shops and great recreation and hiking opportunities especially along the river Tweed (just take a walk to Neidpath Castle). The Borders boast countless sights, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling can be reached easily by car within 30/90 minutes. Whether you like hiking, cycling, sight-seeing or just relaxing... just go to Donald's house in Peebles and enjoy!
In short: Excellent accommodation, nice town, beautiful region and a perfect host. Scottish hospitality at its best! What else could one ask for? We will definitely go there again!
My friend and I live here for a month. Living here is really an great experience. Peebles is a nice town, people here is friendly. There are two big supermarkets, Tesco and Sainsbury. There is a bus go to Edinburgh, which is also very convenient. The house is big and comfortable. And Donald is very kind and helpful.
My sister and I stayed for 8 nights in Donald's beautiful house in Peebles. Donald was a wonderful host, greeting us at the house, showing us around and then respecting our privacy completely. Whenever we did communicate with him during our stay, Donald was easy to contact and communicated well. Donald provided us with two bottles of lovely wine and the house was extremely well equipped for a comfortable stay. The beds were blissfully comfortable and the house is extremely close to shops and amenities whilst at the same time being very quiet. Peebles is a lovely village and Donald also provided many maps and tourist information. His house is well stocked with DVDs and CDs. We had a lovely stay and would come back in a heartbeat.
I spent several weeks in Donald's house in Peebles and loved it. It is a bit big for one person but should be perfect for a couple, up to four individuals, or a family. It is very cozy, nicely decorated, and very well equipped. The kitchen has everything you'll need in terms of utensils and more than you'll expect from a vacation rental. The kitchen is not as big as it looks in the pictures though. There is a collection of videos, DVDs and a few books, fast internet, three tellies, and some information about things to do in the area, such as walking.
Since I stayed quite long I got the monthly rate which I found was quite a good deal.
Donald was very friendly, welcoming and accommodating, and usually quick to answer my emails. I can fully recommend this place, and also Peebles, which is very pretty and great for hill walking.
