The Scottish Borders Region:
Located approximately 35km south of Edinburgh city centre (with the city by-pass even closer, providing links to Edinburgh Airport and the motorway network) makes this area an excellent choice to base yourself for a touring holiday in southern Scotland.
Add to this formal and botanic gardens, stately homes and a rich history with ancient monuments and castles all on your doorstep ... there's plenty to keep you busy in the local area itself.
Whilst a car is not essential to enjoy Peebles and its own local attractions, it would be a shame to miss out on a tour of the wider Borders area and north to Edinburgh city itself. Car rental can be arranged on your behalf, or why not contact us and let us organise local tours for you. Tell us the sort of things you want to see and do - and we'll take care of the rest, whether it be sight-seeing, city shopping, walking, amazing beaches & coastlines, historical tours, golfing, botanical gardens or ornithology ... we'll lay on a great holiday for you!
The Peebles area
The Royal Burgh of Peebles is a thriving market town straddling the world renowned river Tweed. The town boasts quality high-street shopping, supermarkets, and numerous leisure and recreational facilities including golf courses, art galleries, museums, a theatre, swimming pool and, more recently, some of the best dedicated mountain-biking venues in the UK. Peebles is renowned for its number and range of independent shops, attracting visitors and tourists from far and wide.
Horse riding, fishing and hill/walking are also very popular local activities. Peebles hosts each year an agricultural show, several road cycling events, and it's own cultural 'Beltane Festival' ... a festival of local legend, history and tradition with roots dating back many centuries.
Activities in and around Peebles:
Golf courses - the nearest of 3 is less than a 15 mins walk.
Fishing - salmon & trout on the River Tweed, or nearby stocked lochs.
Tennis, bowls and squash - all in town
300m to public swimming pool, plus other watersports in the locale.
The local area is also great for:
Countryside and hill walks
City visits - Edinburgh is just 40mins drive, or by bus service every 20mins.
Road cycling / touring
Mountain biking ... we have three of the UK's top-rated venues right here!
More independent shops than any other town in Scotland.
You will have full access to the house which sleeps up to 5 in comfort.
There is also a Z-bed for a smaller sixth guest (supplement).
Interaction with Guests
Should you have any questions at all your host is available by phone etc. from 8am-11pm. But for urgent situations I can of course be contacted 24/7. To respect your privacy (unless otherwise requested) I will not revisit the house until your time of departure.
If you do not have your own transport there is a regular and frequent bus service operating out of Peebles to Edinburgh and Galshiels, running approximately every 20minutes. The buses are modern and comfortable and even offer wifi!
There are several local taxi firms, and cabs are plentiful and cheap.
But to make the most of the wonderful scenery and places of interest in The Borders, I would recommend you have your own transport.

Donald was great in welcoming us and introducing us to his lovely cottage. We loved the lovely decor, the cleanliness, the ample parking space, and the absolutely lovely house!
Donald was a very welcoming host. He equipped his home with every possible item you could need. His home was beautifully decorated. The house was very clean and the bathroom on all 3 levels was very convenient. We loved our experience in his home and town which was extremely quiet and peaceful. We left with wonderful experience and lasting memories.
What can one say
Many hotels worldwide could learn from Donald
This property is by far one of the best I have stayed at worldwide
It lacks nothing and the thought that has gone into making this a home away from home is second to none
The property has everything even down to umbrellas and picnic rugs
If you are looking at Peebles you can't go past this property
Immaculate in every way
We arrived in a group of 3 people to go mountain biking at the nearby Glentress trail centre. Once we arrived we didn't use the car again as the house is in a great location. A few minutes bike ride to Glentress and a minutes walk to Peebles town centre.
The house is nice and spacious with all the facilities you could need. The host was excellent and made the stay very easy and pleasurable for us. I would not hesitate to recommend Donald and his lovely house for anyone staying in Peebles.
As our very first Airbnb experience, we had a great stay at Donald's house in Peebles while on our family holidays in Scotland . The location allowed us to go on daytrips to Stirling, Edinburgh, Loch Lomond and within the Scottish Borders.
Communication with Donald while preparing our stay was very swift and easy and he was indeed a very nice and understanding host (despite the crankiness of our children upon arrival). He also remained available during our stay.
The house is lovely and well equipped, Donald seems to have thought of everything - from cutlery to washing machine and hair dryers. Nice view on the old town from the master bedroom balcony; weather permitting, it would have been a really nice place for morning coffee. The kitchen is complete, although not too spacious. You'll also find some food supplies upon your arrival, a nice gesture from Donald. The shops are very near to the house, open 7/7 and quite late into the evening which is very convenient.
If travelling with children, you might want to take into account the beige carpet in all rooms, including in the entrance hall and under the dining table - you'll need to be careful with that.
Donald has all local tourist office material assembled in the house, so you don't need to go much further to get information. We did some nice walks based on these guides.
There is also a huge collection of VHS and DVDs in the house in case you're looking for some home entertainment on a rainy day. We actually had difficulties in getting the kids out on excursions; they would have been happy to stay in with the cartoons :)
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend Donald's house without hesitation.
My friends and I were in Peebles for a wedding and we had a wonderful stay here. Donald was charming and helpful, the house was clean and comfortable, nice and quiet with lovely views, and we all slept very well in the excellent beds. Highly recommended.
Briana and her four friends (attending a local wedding) stayed in my self-catering house in Peebles during January 2015. Communicating with Briana was straightforward and their stay went without a hitch. On departure my house was left in good condition and they had clearly looked after it well. I'd have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending them to other AirBnB hosts. I look forward to seeing them all again at some time in the future.
Great trip , great host , Donald is a genuine and caring host , communications very clear and precise . Looking forward to a return visit .
