The Space

Kalawalla Beach Rentals- We are beautifully made from all local wood and hand built by my wife's father Abdiel, one of the premier builders in the area. As soon as you see inside you will see that the craftsmanship is truly unique and comfortable. Our apartments feature 2 bedrooms and one bath with hot water shower. The main bedroom has a king sized bed, closet space, cable TV, A/C, fan, mirror with lots of windows to let in light. Upstairs is our 'loft' bedroom featuring two single beds, a fan and a large window that opens out to let the sea air in... The main living area features an open floor plan with no walls dividing the kitchen and living room area. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove and a full sized refrigerator and more. The living room is comfortable and bright. You can also step out onto your private balcony and sit on one of the custom made benches or lay out on your hammock to relax and watch the scenery around you.
Kalawalla Beach Rentals are very convienently located, we are across the street from the ocean and (email hidden). walk to the best surf spot in the country, Salsa Brava, which also is actually a great swim beach for kids with its naturally protected tide pools in front that are always safe to swim in. There are many beautiful beaches in Puerto Viejo and the surrounding towns and all of them are easily accessed from here. Also you are close to many of Puerto Viejo's famously good restaurants that serve up a wide variety of delicious meals all hours of the day. Be sure to step in down stairs to the delicious Puerto Viejo Bakery for a cup of delicious coffee and try the best chocolate cake you've ever had...
There is so much you can do in Puerto Viejo... if you want to have some adventure like: zip-lining, quad tours, hiking, fishing, surfing or nature walks like the Cahuita National Park (a must see) we will be happy to help you. Please we invite you to come and stay awhile and see why so many that come fall instantly in love with Puerto Viejo and Kalawall Beach Rentals apartments.

  • This apartment was much more that we had hoped for. It was beautiful, cool and the perfect location for all that we wanted to do while in Costa Rica. They provided everything we could need during our stay and were very responsive to our emails when arranging our arrival and check-out. Thank you so much for making this space available!

  • This apartment is a great find! It's in a GREAT location and close to town. Just a quick walk to the beach and off the main road leading to other beaches and towns. We recommend renting bikes during your stay. The bakery downstairs is a plus! Although you can hear noise from downstairs and from your next door neighbor during most of the day. Hosts are welcoming and available to answer questions. Very clean and bug-free.

  • Our Christmas trip to Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica could not have been better. The apartment was probably the nicest you will find in the area! It is an apartment over a bakery where you can go downstairs every morning and have cafe and pastries. I can recommend this apartment with the highest praise. Now, a little advice about the region. If you are expecting extravagance and commercialism on your trip, Puerto Viejo is not the place for you. Likewise, if you are not the adventurist type. However, if you want simplicity and beauty, then you will not be disappointed. I don't know what the deal was with an earlier post, but there is not more threat of danger here than any other part of the world. I felt more threatened in Rome, Italy than here. You can walk the streets without fear. Now, don't go down the side roads of town at night by yourself. But that is the case most anywhere you are visiting. My family consisted of me, my wife and two teenage daughters. We had no problems. I only had one meal the whoe 10 days that I didn't care for. Otherwise the food is great! You can drink the water most everywhere. But if you are concerned, bottled water is available everywhere. For adventure, call Junior at (phone number hidden) a great experience in the jungle and waterfalls. Even go to Panama. He can help you with travel to and from San Jose also cheeper than anything else. Don't rent a car! You can rent bikes and get around town just fine. Most people walk or bike anyway. Vehicles are not prevalent here. For a laid-back, good time, you can not go wrong here. The beaches are beautiful and this is a great surfing area. Temp in the winter is 80 degrees! The town people are friendly and eager to help you. They take your dollars too. Karlina and christian were easily contacted and responded quickly to all of our questions while we were there. There is WiFi and warm water for showers. You don't really want a hot shower here. I cold go on and on, but this was my favorite vacation spot. I will go back. And I will stay at this apartment again! You will not be disappointed if you stay here either. Feel free to contact me if you want some pointer about what to see and do at (email hidden).

  • Even if the apartment is very nice we can not recommend the village Puerto Viejo. After arriving a lot of people warned us about the crime in Puerto Viejo immediately. There must be a lot. Because of our own bad experience we didn't feel comfortable at all and left Puerto Viejo and there for the apartment after 2 days although we booked and paid the apartment for a whole month.

  • Our stay here was fabulous! It is an amazing space, great location, and contacting the hosts and getting things set up was easy, even with them not being in town. They were responsive to any questions we had prior to arriving and once we got there.
The balcony was a favorite hang out and we loved the people watching and relaxing vibe. We lucked out with a fabulous find!

We have no problem recommending this apt to others wishing to have a lovely place to start their Puerto Viejo adventures.

  • We had an amazing stay at this apartment! The place is very beautiful and comfortable, we spent a lot of time hanging out on the balcony! The location is great and secure, there's a couple of place nearby where you can rent bikes. The beach is across the street and there's a couple of bars that are close enough to go by foot even at night.
The hosts are very nice, they answered every questions I had very fast and were very reliable when we were over there. I would recommend that place to everybody!!

  • What a great find! We felt so comfortable staying here. Great bed, great location, full kitchen and laundry. Bakery on the first floor is fantastic. There is much within walking distance and bike rentals within reach. Christian & Karlina were out of town but left us in good hands with their friend.

  • This place is amazing! We had an awesome time thanks to this cozy apartment. Beautiful craftsmanship and great location in the best part of Puerto Viejo. Not noisy at all yet perfectly in the middle of all the action. The balcony was our favorite hangout spot. The hosts are friendly and accommodating, respond to emails and make themselves available for whatever comes up, you couldn't ask for more. You really cant beat the deal, 30 sec walk to the beach, central location to all the action (sodas/bars) and even bike rentals next door--which is the best way to get around in PV. Pura Vida!

We are like the Ricardo Arjona song; "El yankee se enamoro de un Tica"... My wife grew up in Cahuita and I met her here on a surf trip to Cahuita 17 years ago. Our dream was to live here always but for 13 years we lived in my home town of Carlsbad, CA where we had two beautiful boys. Fortunately a little over two years ago we moved back to this beautiful place and can give personal attention to our apartments and guests. We are sure you will love your stay here...
