Great location
90% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Entire 3rd floor apartment, 3-bedroom, upstairs from unique art gallery and dim sum catering service. On Route 9, downtown 2 miles, I-91 one mile; parking, secluded back yard. Apartment has its own bathroom and kitchen separate from our 2nd floor residence. No smoking on the premises and no pets please. No partying and no excessive drinking. All these house rules are not negotiable.

The space
Third floor self-contained apartment in an 1880s Victorian building that has a first-floor art gallery and dim sum catering service, and our residence and artist studios on the 2nd floor. The apartment features three unique bedrooms total sleeping up to six, the West Room with two thick comfy twin-sized futons on the floor, wide enough for two people to sleep if desired; the North Room with a two twin-sized single beds; and the South Room with two single twin-sized Perlato rollaway beds. There are extra rollaway beds in the hall closet. West and North Room have air conditioning as needed; South Room has fans. This is a transformed attic - doesn't look like an attic any more! The only atticlike aspects are the door thresholds at 6'1" the sloping eaves in room corners and the cozy tub/shower area.

Guest access
Guests share a bathroom among them, the shower cozy under the eaves. Full access to the 3rd floor kitchen and welcome to cook your meals with the induction magnetic stove top, also a microwave and toaster oven. You are welcome to look through any of the books in the apartment or in the stairwell or 2nd floor landing. Welcome to use the 1st floor gallery space. Guests also have access to the back yard. Parking on the premises. The entrance to the apartment is by the door at the rear of the building by the rear gallery space and closer to the back yard. Once inside, the door to your left leads to the stairwell up two flights of stairs to the apartment entrance. The door at the top of the stairwell can be locked overnight but left open upon departure. Exterior door to the street and parking must be kept locked at all times. Upon opening, relock the lower lock by turning the pin in the knob. The shower in the third floor bathroom is petite, best for those of small or average stature. Door thresholds are 6'1".

Other things to note
We both teach during the school year. Year round we offer classes in tai chi, cooking, art, and Chinese language on-site on an individualized basis. We also plan and coordinate local Asian culture events such as the Lunar New Year and Mid Autumn Moon Festivals. We occasionally have events related to exhibitions or presentations under the auspices of our art gallery. Mt Snow is 25 miles away, Stratton is 38 miles - both along good roads all the way. Route 9 in the winter is always the first to get cleared among roads around here. Driveway/parking area generally gets plowed promptly, so our place is easy in or out year round. We are 9/10 of a mile west (and on the left) of the exit 2 ramp to I-91, and, coming east on Route 9, we are 17.4 miles on the right from the Wilmington, VT traffic light.

The house is in the village of West Brattleboro one mile from I-91 and two miles from downtown Brattleboro. The house is very conveniently located right on Route 9, yet there are woods and trails walking distance (5 minutes) from the house. A 10-minute walk from our building brings you to our favorite local pizza place and washers/dryers in a laundromat.

We love art, making art, and making food as art. We enjoy Chinese wellness routines and exercises. We own and run C.X. Silver Gallery Fine Art (cxsilvergallery) and Cai's Dim Sum Catering (dimsumvt) open by appointment year round. Cai is an artist, chef-owner of the catering and gallery, tai chi master, exhibition curator, and teacher of Chinese and art. Cai offers lessons in tai chi, painting, Chinese calligraphy and brushwork, and Chinese cooking. Adam is an arts administrator/manager/webmaster for the gallery and catering, editor/publisher for gallery publications. We've been in Brattleboro for sixteen years and have loved raising our kids here. Now both kids are grown and residing respectively in Chicago and New York. The first floor has the art galleries and center for catering. The second floor is our residence plus there is a book room in the common area that connects the stairwells up to the apartment. The third floor is the self-contained apartment featuring an eat-in kitchen, three bedrooms and a bathroom. This Victorian building is from the 1880s and the height of the doorframes is 6'1" - the shower area is quite cozy, located as it is under the eaves. Out back, there is a secluded garden with towering trees. The building is on Route 9, a mile from I-91 exit 2 and two miles from Brattleboro’s downtown. The town is full of artists, arts organizations and art related events and activities, kid- and family-friendly activities, lots of nature, farms, and mountains not far off.
