The Space

a simple, modern, wifi 1-bedroom on 14th street in the east village. a 10 minute walk to union square, so close to tons of great restaurants, shopping and shows, close to so many types of public transportation (right next to the L train (subway) and the M-15 and M-14 (buses)) and a 10-minute walk to the 4, 5, 6, N, R, and Q train.

the apartment is in a classic doorman building, with laundry machines and other amenities. the apartment is a converted 1-bedroom, with 1 bathroom. while we are home, 2 people can stay. And while we are away, up to 4 people could fit, though the ideal number is 2 or 3 total.

as for us, we are both sustainability professionals, and appreciate the notion of a sharing economy. we like to make sure our guests have a great time since we think NYC is the best city!

[Additional amenities: air-conditioner, air purifier, wifi, network printer (to print a few pages only please), hdmi cord to connect laptop to TV, toiletries and clean linens, hairdryer, cleaning supplies, hand-held vacuum cleaner, access to recycling center, laundry machine card (to refill as per your needs), basic food in refrigerator, spices for cooking, composting available at the YMCA across the street.

Recommended spots in our neighborhood:
-Artichoke pizza (across the street) - VERY popular!
-Mad Men Espresso (on our block) - good coffee!
-Motorino- delicious brick-oven pizza (12th St btwn 1st Ave and 2nd Ave)

-Bite- good sandwiches (14th St btwn 2nd and 3rd Aves)
-La Linea bar - good drink specials, good hip-hop (Lower East Side)
-National Underground- good live music (Lower East Side)
-Williamsburg is one stop away on the L train (towards Brooklyn). If you get out at Bedford Ave, there will be much to see/shop/eat right there! many more, we can't list them all!

Also nearby:
-3 grocery stores: Associated Foods is closest (14th St btwn 1st Ave and Ave A), Trader Joe's (14th St btwn 3rd and 4th Aves), Whole Foods (14th St btwn Broadway and University)

  • Me and two friends stayed at Rachana's place for 4 nights in June. Rachana and her husband are amazing hosts! They gave us a lot of great suggestions on where to go in NY and were so generous with making us feel at home!
Their apartment is in a great location, walking distance to Union Square and surrounded by great bars and eateries. Very spacious and clean as well.
Thank you both so much for your accommodation! It was so great to meet you both!

  • The apartment is in a very vibey area of New York City! There is always something happening in the area, from bars, to restaurants to being able to sit in a park. It was cozy and had all the amenities. Rachana was helpful enough to give all the tips of making a stay more pleasurable. I enjoy my time in this flat.

Hi, I'm Rachana. I am from NJ but have lived in NYC for 13 years if you add it all up and I love this city! NYC has so much to offer and our apartment gives you a great place from which to explore the big apple in all its vastness. I am an avid traveler and really like to immerse myself in a new city, usually by living there! I've lived in Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, and Delhi, and have so much love for all those cultures. I also am a hard core music fan. I love learning about new music and dance crazes in different countries. That's why when you travel to a place and are lucky enough to meet a local who's willing to tell you about the secret gems that are not in the guidebooks, you've really scored! We'd hope to provide that kind of experience for anyone coming to NYC.
