We arrived later than the agreed upon time due to a delayed train and Donato was very helpful and understanding
We spent a lovely four days in Maiori. Donato was a very prompt when responding to all communications. The apartment was very functional. As some other guests have mentioned, some of the bedding is threadbare but everything was clean. The view to the sea is partially obstructed--yet the proximity to everything was wonderful and sitting on the patio was nice. The bathrooms were nice and there was an outdoor sprayer for washing the sand off. The last day we were there was a holiday so the streets were a bit louder so I imagine in the summer it might be loud at times. Overall, Maiori's community, restaurants, services, and beaches were wonderful. We loved our stay.
The apartment is a little dated as can be seen from the photos but very spacious and airy and would be nice for a summer vacation. It's nice to sit on the balcony and look at the view. We found Maiori and the townspeople very nice and friendly. The boat tour to the Isle of Capri is also super convenient and was a great day trip. We found it a little tricky getting around by public transport so having a car may be more convenient if you only had a few days and made Maiori a base to visit the Amalfi coast.
Donato guided us on how to get to the apartment, and met with on arrival. We didn't have much time to talk, but our host seemed like a nice and welcoming person. We were a group of 7, staying in Donato's apartment, and it was pushing the limits of the flat, as 2 of us had to sleep on couches. Donato provided us with electric heaters, which came in handy during our stay, as it was very cold in the night, and windows didn't provide much isolation. The apartment is dated, or rather, the appliances and furniture are from another era :) It has some charm to it, but girls in our group certainly didn't appreciate the moldy smell of old couches, and matteraces. In fact, our biggest gripe would be the set of sheets and old pillows that we got from Donato. This completely ruined our impression of the appartment - we knew from the photos and pricing, that we shouldn't expect 5 star hotel by any means, but a set of 20 or so year old sheets, each different, washed out, and with stains on them, is just unacceptable. I think Donato should invest in that as the very first thing, even if it means rising the price.
The apartment has big balcony with a sea view (though, a bit obscured, as the building is not standing in the front line), is close to the bus stop, and overall offers great location, just on the edge of Maiori. The town itself is placed in beautiful scenery - beaches, sea, and hills, is what we all love the most. There is much to see and visit all along the coast, and during our ~5day stay we managed just to scratch the surface. Unfortunately the weather in May didn't bless us, so sunbathing on the beach was out of the question. Speaking of beaches - it was really hilariously awful how dirty those were. Trash, bottles, fags, stereofoam and even whipped cream cans (wtf?), laying all around. Apparently, during the off-season, Amalfi local gov is more inclined to send 6 policeman to direct the traffic on a crossing at one lane road, than sending someone to take care of the trash.
Overall, we surely will remember our stay in Maiori in a fond manner, even though it was sweet-and-sour at times. Would I recommend Donato's apartment for a romantic getaway for lovers? Nope. Family on a budget? Maybe. Trekking freaks, tourists seeking adventures, and students? Certainly.
