If you're looking for a place directly in the center of town and close to everything, equipped with all the amenities you could possibly need such as bicycles, travel adapters, wifi, etc., that would be our place, not to mention the advice of a local
***NOTE: From May 27th through June 3rd, we will be out of town, so you will have the entire house to yourself for the same low price of $69/night, making this likely the best deal in all of Fort Lauderdale!***
Welcome to our home and the beautiful city of Fort Lauderdale!
Located just over 1 mile from the beach directly in the center of town, our location is ideal for anyone interested in touring the city, whether you do so by foot, car, or bicycle. I would like to first let you know that we will gladly offer you our 2 bicycles for you to use. Fort Lauderdale is a great city for bicycling and we are very centrally located, being only a 5-10 minute bike ride to the beach and a 10-15 minute bike ride to downtown and Las Olas Blvd.
HOUSE: Our house sits in the safe, cozy neighborhood of Lake Ridge in Fort Lauderdale, within walking distance of a 24/7 drug store, grocery store, bank, restaurants, French bakery, movie theater, mall, homemade gelato shop, post office, water taxi stop, and even a Hustler. You will sleep on a queen size bed in your own private room and you will have your own private bathroom. We are usually only home during the day and often gone in the late afternoon until late at night. So, you may never end up seeing much of us as we would expect you to be gone most of the day. The entire house is super clean and modern and has all updated appliances. We are both laid back and quite well-travelled, and we have visited and hosted many people before. You'll of course get a key and have access to the house at any time. We are super easy-going and down-to-earth. We go to bed late (around 2am), but as long as you are not a light sleeper, you should have no problem sleeping as we keep the house dim and quiet and we work on our computers away from your room at the opposite end of the house.
AMENITIES: The house has everything you may need, including:
-Two bicycles with locks and lights that you can use to go anywhere in the city, day or night.
-Free soap and shampoo as well as a hairdryer. We will also provide you with freshly cleaned towels, linens, and wash cloths.
-Nice modern kitchen. NOTE: We don't allow any cooking (pots, pans, oven, and stove). Simple breakfast foods, sandwiches, snacks, etc. and use of the microwave is perfectly fine, yet we encourage you to go out to interact with locals and explore the food scene.
-Plenty of parking if you have a car, which I highly recommend renting
-Washer and dryer
-Cable and wireless internet (AT&T U-verse)
-Personalized maps and info on everywhere to go in Fort Lauderdale/Miami. I have lived here 20 years and know the city better than anyone.
-For those from another country, I have an adapter/converter for your electrical appliances.
-If you are driving and don't want to get lost, I can provide you with a Garmin GPS
-Should you need to check your email or book your next night of accommodation, you can use our computer briefly.
GUESTS WHO WE WANT TO HOST: We desire to host people who actively explore the city and everything it has to offer. Young people who don't waste any time in the morning and set out and make a full day of everything the city has to offer are the most desirable.
GUESTS WHO WE DO NOT WANT TO HOST: If you are coming to Fort Lauderdale to take a vacation in our house by which you never leave it or you hang out all morning long, our place is not for you. It's a tiny house and it's not set up for that purpose.
SUMMARY: We consider ourselves very friendly and generous people who are cultured and laid back. Having been to 35 countries, we are used to interacting with all sorts of people and truly enjoy meeting people from other countries. We know how it feels to be a traveler and we understand what a traveler needs, so you can be assured that we will take good care of you and take care of all your needs. At this point, all we can do is welcome you to Fort Lauderdale.
South Florida is extremely vast and the public transportation, that of which exists, is notoriously poor. I highly recommend that you rent a car at the airport for about $25/day.
The only standing rule pretty much is that we don't allow cooking, like the use of pots, pans, the oven, or stove. Quick and easy things for breakfast (yogurt, cereal, etc.) are perfectly okay as well as food that you can just heat in the microwave.
As I mentioned in the description, we're really laid back and we don't care what you do as long as you don't damage anything, aggravate my neighbors, or manage to get the police called out to the house. Just make yourself at home. We'll feel more comfortable and so will you.
Check-in is flexible as it will depend on if there is another guest still in the house or not, although you will surely be able to check-in no later than 1pm and any time after 1pm if you wish, whether we are home or not. Check-out is at 10am, although you can store your luggage with us should you wish to spend more time in Fort Lauderdale.
Our experience with Dave and Sindy was great!! They had a lovely place, and were extremely knowledgeable of Ft. Lauderdale, which was a big help. My girlfriend and I loved our stay, and felt very welcome in their home. We ended up staying an extra day, and were very pleased that we were able to extend our stay last-minute. Being able to use their bikes was an absolute life-saver as there was a large event going so there were various roads blocked off downtown. I would absolutely recommend staying here!
Our stay was short but very good. David's place is really lovely, stylish and clean and the neighbourhood is great. I can definetely recommend the place.
David and Sindy were great hosts. The room and bath were clean and pleasant. The best perks were the bicycles and David's detailed map and list of local attractions. It was incredibly helpful. We had a ton of fun biking around the city. I would recommend staying with David and Sindy!
David and Sindy were very welcoming. We were very happy with our stay prior to our cruise out of Fort Lauderdale and we would definitely stay with them again! We enjoyed witting out in the backyard while eating our breakfast.
The venue was great, clean, good location, and David was very laid-back, helpful and chatty and giving me ideas on things to do. Our schedules were different so it felt that David, Sindy and I were often coming and going at different times so it felt like I was in the house on my own quite often.
David was also extremely helpful when I lost my keys on the beach! They fell out of my pocket into the sand and could not find them. He came to me on his scooter 20 minutes later with a new set of keys.
Dave ans Sindy have included and accomadeted our early checking in and very late departure (due to weather). They took care of our needs depanding on our requests.
My name is Dave and I'm originally from Cleveland, Ohio, but grew up in South Florida and have lived here for 22 years. I consider myself easy-going and I love to travel and meet new people. I am currently working on creating a travel website about European culture and this is what I spend all of my free time doing. I'm interested in the arts (music, art, architecture, history, religion, science, psychology, etc.) and enjoy a good conversation. I stay healthy and enjoy the outdoors as well. My favorite movie is Amelie, my favorite place to travel is Europe, and my favorite hobby is cooking. I don't watch too much T.V. besides the news and non-fictional programs. As for music, I enjoy all types of music and I am a musician, playing the trumpet and the piano.
My wife, Sindy, is originally from Eastern Germany but moved to Munich where she lived for 10 years. While in Germany, she studied languages and can speak Spanish, French, Italian, German, and English at different levels of proficiency. We have been married for 8 years and she is a fashion designer.
