ABOUT THE ANDO PRIVATE ROOM
The Ando room is our homage to Momofuku Ando, Taiwanese-Japanese inventor of instant ramen noodles and Cup Noodles and founder of Nissin Foods. Ando’s instant ramen noodles and Cup Noodles have had global impact, powering graduate students working on world class scientific research, fueling countless entrepreneurs and startups, feeding disaster refugees and providing hot sustenance for people of modest means. His product reflected pure simplicity, ease of use and universal appeal - just peel back the lid, add hot water and wait three minutes.
In 1957 at age 47, after many previous business setbacks and failures, Ando reached a low point in this life, having headed a bank that made many bad loans. Depositors pursued him to make up for their losses, and he thought he might die of shame or poverty. In the depth of that failure, he recalled a long line of people he had seen waiting in the cold for ramen noodles 10 years earlier and set to work. Reflecting on his previous failed ventures: “I came to understand that all of my failure—all of my shame - was like muscle added to body.” He spent over a year intensely experimenting to perfect instant ramen noodles, only to meet with repeated failure. His moment of serendipitous discovery came while watching his wife fry tempura in boiling oil. Dipping his noodles into the oil, he saw they not only dried, but became highly absorbent.
Ando is a reminder that failure can be a great teacher, and that it’s never too late to observe, learn, experiment and invent, and to recreate yourself in the process. He was not afraid to try and fail and try again and again, even in a culture that views failure with great shame. In 1971, at age 61, he launched Cup Noodles, his first international megahit, a revolutionary new packaging design for his instant ramen, after watching Americans in Los Angeles eating the noodles in Styrofoam coffee cups instead of bowls. As of 2009, Ando’s company employed more than 21,000 people in 11 countries and enjoyed net sales of over $3 billion a year.

My stay at Leigh's place was fantastic! She was super accommodating of my evening arrival even though she was not going to be there. She posted little yellow notes on my door and down the hall saying "Welcome Matt!" and giving me instructions to where my room/bathroom was.
I ride my bike through Palo Alto to work a lot (from SF) on my way to work and often daydream about living in one of the cute little neighborhood houses. Leigh's place gave me an opportunity to do that, and allowed me to get a much needed nights sleep before work! The house was very clean and quiet, and really close to the Cali Ave Caltrain Station. I will be back!!!
I stayed for a few weeks at Leigh's place and had a fantastic time. They were the perfect hosts - friendly, welcoming, helpful and we had lots of interesting conversations. The house is spacious, very clean and in a beautiful area. It's very convenient for the Caltrain and exploring Stanford and University Avenue. I'd love to stay again if I'm working in the area in the future, and hope to keep in touch!
Leigh and her husband made my visit overwhelmingly positive. They have thought out every aspect of making their guests feel welcome. Leigh gave me a great introduction to the house and the area. The house is spacious, with a large comfortable living room, and a modern, very clean kitchen. She gave me a map of Palo Alto and Stanford and showed me some highlights on it, including the nearby shopping streets with many good restaurants. Communication was always easy. They have the perfect attitude to guests and see hosting as 'reverse travel' - a chance to meet interesting people who come to stay. They shared their many experiences of life in Silicon Valley, which helped me a lot as I am in the process of moving here. The neighborhood is beautiful and may be the best in Palo Alto. Leigh and her husband may be the best hosts!
I couldn't have dreamed better for my first airbnb experience. The hosts are extremely friendly and welcoming, the room is perfectly clean and comfortable and the location is great. I highly recommend it and I hope to be back some day!
Best place for a cat person to squeeze in! Besides room, our charming host Leigh is way more beautiful than which shown in the picture.
It's not only about a room to take a rest at night, but also a group of people who really care about you.
Especially for Chinese people, we confront all kind of stupid and stereotyping questions when you trying to start a conversation with foreigners. It didn't happen here.
They remind me of a truth that only knowledge can prevent us from being tedious. Forgive my clumsy language. I wish I have fully expressed my gratitude.
I have already recommended this wonderful place to several friends. Hope anyone stay here could feel the same I feel:)
The Leigh couple were very cordial and extended a great welcome followed by a thorough overview of the home. I had a calm and comfortable stay here. I really appreciate the effort these guys put in to ensure all their guests have a pleasant stay while they are at their home.
I am sure to go back here some time.
This was my first experience of Airbnb and it could not have been better. Both Leigh and EJ are the best possible hosts. They were very welcoming. Leigh took time to go over everything the house as well as interesting places and useful stores in the area. My room was very clean, the house rules were really clear and easy to follow. But the best part of the stay was the atmosphere of their home. I really enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend Leigh's place to anyone coming to Palo Alto area! I could have stayed much longer.
