The view pales next to our great neighbors, they are the best. Elvira accross the street, I call her the "Go 2 Girl" will greet you with a smile and always a friend. She is also available for child care, shopping, directions etc.
Lorrain and Jim, next door, have lived there almost as long as Dave and I. They are enjoying their family and retired life.
One of our favorite things to do is play pinnocle with Billy and Roni, who live around the corner. We always laugh alot while playing which what makes it still so much fun. Dave was best man in their wedding 45 years ago.
The girls in the neighborhood walk almost every day or eve and welcome you to join them if you like to walk. Their serious about their walks and have been walking together for over 8 years. Last year they all walked in the Big Sur Marathon. This year Lorraine and Renee did it again.
We do not allow smoking or pets to maintain a clean atmosphere for those who may be allergic. However, there are several seating areas around the house for those who enjoy smoking. Elvira, if available, who lives directly accross the street will allow your dog or cat to stay in her yard. She is also an excellant source for child care, shopping, flower arranging, directions, etc. She is a retired certified masseuse. My grandchildren call her Omie (granny in German).
We had a great stay at Patty's. The house and backyard were great! With three kids this was the perfect place, especially with the four aquarium passes. Everything was in great shape and very clean. The fire pit in the backyard was also a nice treat. The kids loved roasting marshmallows. We would definitely return for another stay in the future.
The house and view were fantastic. It was a perfect base for exploring Big Sur and venturing into Monterey, as it wasn't in the thick of things, but very close. Patty left clear instructions for everything and we had a great experience. Highly recommend!
Patty was very accommodating and usually quite quick to respond to messages so it was easy to ask questions before our stay. Elvira across the street was very kind to help us as well. The house was as described; comfortable in any weather, but the highlight was the beautiful yard with several activities (playground for kids, outdoor fire pit area with seating, horseshoes, chess game), so hopefully you have some dry weather there so you can get outside and enjoy that. A bit more on the layout of the house: the driveway is rather steep up from the residential street, with room for 1-2 cars parking once it flattens at the top (no indoor parking). The living room with the gorgeous bay view and the lovely modern kitchen occupy the main space as you enter the door. Off the kitchen is what was formerly the garage, that they've converted into a cozy multi-purpose room that has a tiny but functional bathroom, a trundle bed, and washer/dryer. Along a hallway at the back of the house are a bedroom with a large closet, a large bathroom with double sinks and access to the backyard, and a bedroom with a television and access to the backyard. WiFi and DirectTV were functional, and everything was taken care of to make our stay comfortable. Would go back!
We had a wonderful time staying here! The space is comfortable and simple. We were there with 3 young kids, and the sand, play gym, and running space in the back yard was really fun for them, and made the vacation much more relaxing for the adults. The location was very convenient, and the guest passes for the aquarium was a huge bonus (worth $160)! We loved being able to watch the sunset from the house each evening. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of blankets and towels provided. We would definitely stay there again!
The hosts were great!
Based on price, location and description....
Negative: It may be a stretch to call the property handicap accessible.
Positive: The view is a delight.
This was my first experience with Airbnb and it was great! Patty's place is beautiful. It was hard to choose which room to stay in they were all so nice and the view was wonderful. The backyard is just begging for a party! It's incredible. Patty has her place set up beautifully and has little signs everywhere to let you know about everything. This really makes staying in a strangers house much easier and let's you enjoy the experience more. Patty herself was great to work with. Very sweet and helpful. She responded so quickly anytime I had a question. This really was a great experience!
Dave, our daughter Krysti and I have had many happy years in this home. When we lived here Dave was the golf professional at Spyglass Hill in Pebble Beach for seven years and I worked at the Del Monte Hyatt. Dave later partnered with a friend and bought a limousine service and car rental. I was president of the PTA of Monterey High School when we bought a building (my project) 450 miles away. That was 27 years ago. I really thought 6 months hard work, and you then "just collect rent". Sounds perfect, Boy! was I wrong. It is still alot of work. After three years, reality set in. Dave and I decided one of the two investments had to go. We decided the commercial center was the investment to keep so we sold to our partner and have been in So. Cal ever since.
We kept the house to share with family and friends, but we were all too busy to vacation. After a couple of years we decided to rent it out full time.
We rented it to our dear friend, Henry (50) & Diane who lived in it for over 20 years. Henry was Hawaiin and used to be Don Ho's bodyguard. Remember, "Tiny Bubbles" Many luaus and pigs cooked in the back yard Hawaiin style.
Before we rented our home to our friends we stored many things in the shed (time capsule) in the backyard. Not really remembering what was packed in the shed or expecting anything to be any good after over twenty years, we were pleasantly surprised. A step back in time. Memories!!! We have so many, many happy memories in this home and count our blessings for them.
After our friends moved to North Carolina last year, we thought we would work on the house and prepare it to sell. Being back in Monterey and sitting on the couch looking out over the bay, my husband said, "I don't think we should sell this house"
the view is so beautiful in the day and even more spectacular at night, It just draws you in, a calming pleasure. We had forgotten. While restoring the house I learned about Airbnb and the rest is history, and more new memories.
Dave and I love Jazz and we have been sitting in the same seats (with an original group of 60 friends) for over 35 years at the Monterey Jazz Festival. We also love to travel, golf and enjoy our houseboat at the Havasu Springs Resort,
We hope you will enjoy our home as much as we do.
