Built on a hill, this stone town house is right outside the old city walls (dating from the 2nd century B.C.) of Historical Centre of Cortona, an old city founded by The Etruscans, the ancient civilization that built Rome. Cortona is conveniently located in a 1,15 hrs drive from Florence, 2 hrs from Rome and Pisa International Airports, 30 mins from Perugia (in Umbria) and Arezzo, 45 mins from Siena, Assisi (Umbria), Montalcino (where the famous "Brunello" wine comes from), 30 mins from Montepulciano...all the best scenaries of famous Tuscan country, with sunflower fields in summer and colored trees in spring!
The closest airports are Florence (1hr 23min), Pisa (2hr 04min) and Rome (2hr 14min).
The closest train station is Cortona-Camucia (3,3 km - 6 mins by car) and I suggest you take a taxi to get to Cortona, even though there are buses too.
However, if you're able to let us know your ETA, my mom might even come to pick you up at the train station.
You don't need a car if you only want to stay in Cortona, and even if you'd like to visit surrounding cities such as Siena, Perugia, Arezzo, Firenze (Florence) etc you can just use trains or buses.
However, if you desire to rent a car, the parking is on the street in about 50/100 meters (55/109 yards) from the house, depending on where you find a spot and it's free. There's also another big parking lot right nearby, more or less the same distance.
You're in the near proximity of the centre and of all the restaurants and food stores you can find in Cortona, like 5-7 mins walking distance.
Other Things to Note
This is our family house. My great grandparents, grandparents and my mom lived here and the view on the valley is just stunning!!!
Cortona is famous as the inspiration and setting for the book Under the Tuscan Sun, (that later became a movie) written by USA writer-novelist Francis Mayes. It also homes a branch of the Georgia University - USA, for artistic matters, since 1970.
Minimum stay is 4 nights.
We expect you'll treat our apartment as if it was yours, with maximum respect and care. We put lots of love to make it comfortable, clean and nice for you and we expect you to leave it as you found it. Thank you very much, we appreciate that. :-)
Please, when you get out the house, remember to turn off lights. Electricity in Italy is quite expensive, so we would appreciate your thoughtfulness on this matter. :-)
Fabulous, fabulous fabulous. It is the most beautiful place to stay, decorated to make it feel like a home not a place to stay. The view is breathtaking and the view is exactly the same from the kitchen. I didn't get to meet Mirko, but met his lovely parents. Mirko's mum met us and greeted us warmly, even surprising us with wine in the fridge and cake on the table. The walk to the main square of Cortona is roughly 5 mins, a beautiful town, and very friendly. Everything we needed was in walking distance. Myself, my husband and our two children were far from ready to leave. 'Under the Tuscan Sun' is the best Air B n B that I have stayed in. I highly recommend Mirko's place. We loved it :)
Awww, thank you Antoinette, you're so sweet!!! I'm very glad to hear you had a wonderful stay in Cortona and that you liked our house so much!
I'm also sad we didn't get to meet, just for one day! :-( But I'm glad you were able to meet my parents! :-)
I hope we can meet some other time in the future and in the meantime, enjoy the rest of your vacation in Italy!
The apartment is exactly as described and has everything you might need or think of. The view is absolutely amazing!
Mirko and his family are very accommodating and helpful hosts!
Location is very convenient for those who travel by car - parking is near by and getting out of the city for country day trips is very easy.
it is outside the wall but it takes only 10 min to walk to Cortona's central square.
The road is a bit noisy though and could be a problem for a lite sleeper.
My mom and I traveled throughout Italy for a few weeks and decided to end our trip in a quiet relaxed atmosphere. We booked this apartment because it looked so serene. We definitely made the right choice! The apartment is located in such a perfect little spot. Just steps outside the walls of Cortona. Everything is walking distance.
The apartment was beautiful! The view is BREATHTAKING!!! The apartment was clean, and cozy. No amenity was spared. Full kitchen with plates, pots and pans, cooking utensils wine opener and a coffee make which all came in handy because we found the restaurants closed at what i thought where weird hours so we decided to cook some meals ourselves. The bathroom was clean and modern and the bedroom was beautiful and cozy with a very comfortable bed and pillows. This was awesome because after traveling for almost 2 weeks and sleeping in very uncomfortable beds finding a nice soft bed was heavenly!
Our host Mirko was amazing. He offered to pick us up from the train station and was accommodating when I messaged him to let him know we were going to be 1 hour late because we hopped on the wrong train!. When we arrived he showed us the apartment and gave us some tips on what to see and explore. We met up with him at a Fair they were having in Cortona and he helped get us back on track when we got lost and even gave us a personal tour of Cortona with lots of insider history!
I can't say enough about this place! It was definitely the Highlight of our trip! I would recommend this apartment and would come visit and stay again. And to Mirko, Thank you for being such a wonderful host and helping us out with everything! Both my mom and I wish you the best with your music and your Marriage and we hope to see you soon in the states!
Great location, it's literally a 1-minute walk into Cortona town, with a great view from the mountain, and really lovely hosts, Mirko's parents. We really enjoyed our time in Cortona and enjoyed how welcomed we were - they even left us little gifts and a thank you note! We felt right at home in this gorgeous Under the Tuscan Sun apartment. Two thumbs up, thank you! :)
