Response from Nola:

Connie and her family came for an extended stay during Christmas. The large apartment was immaculately clean with a bedroom for everyone, full kitchen, and living area and washer and dryer, all at a very reasonable price. We went above and beyond for Connie. While the apt. usually carries very little kitchenware ( as noted on the listing) , Connie said they wanted to save money by cooking a lot. Before their arrival we bought a new coffeemaker, new pots, pans, new toaster, new dishes, new silverware, ,new utensils, etc. We also had a small Christmas tree, lights inside and out, and tasteful decorations with chocolate , coffee and cookies to make their home away from home special. We were extremely available to Connie and her family during the entire stay and happily gave lots of info on places to go, etc. Enjoyed talking with them and made and brought Jambalaya to their guest who was sick for much of the stay.. Connie asked for a late checkout for their daughter, which was very difficult for us as we had to do a quick turnaround fro incoming guests, but we accommodated her. All was great until we saw the apartment after they departed. The house was extremely dirty, makeup on the towels, which we had asked Connie not to do. The kitchen was a nightmare! Dried food, drips , and spills on the counters, down the cabinets, the floors , the sink– BUT THE REFRIDGERATOR WAS STUNNING! While I can understand not wanting to throw away “good food” , what Connie left in the fridge was beyond anything we’ve ever seen and we would not imagine insulting anyone by offering it to them and certainly did not want to eat it ourselves. We removed 53 items from the packed fridge . Many old half eaten takeout containers including pizza, Chinese, mystery stuff, the butt end of a pineapple( uncovered), other various half eaten fruit, THREE ! ¼ full large bottles orange juice. Multiple opened and used containers of a wide variety of foods, the butt end pieces (2) of a loaf of bread, multiple bowls and dishes of unknown and disgusting leftovers – meaning we had to empty out that gross food and then clean the caked on food, old milk, on and on. 3 garbage bags full of grossness!
Because of the extra hours we had to spend on cleaning the kitchen, the fridge and the apt. we had to ask our incoming guests to arrive later, not good. We chose not to charge Connie’s security deposit for the extra cleaning and damaged towels, as we just wanted to move on. So we suffered losses on this one. Connie contacted us several times ( not appropriate) after departure asking us not to leave her a bad review or “not trash each other in the reviews” and “to not spread the negativity”. So we didn’t leave her a review at all. She never once apologized for leaving a big mess and in fact turned it back on us, saying we should be more clear in our expectations. I can’t imagine any scenario as a guest anywhere; where an adult would need to have it spelled out for them not to leave a huge, stinky, disgusting mess for someone else to clean up. While we did state our disappointment to Connie, we were not rude to Connie at any time and in fact the whole stay was very friendly and they all said many times how much they were enjoying everything. For Connie to attack me personally after all her pleas “not to spread the negativity” is sad. Connie was not respectful to the property or her hosts. While we're glad Connie loves New Orleans and plans on returning many times, we would not want to host her again and hope that she will be more respectful to her next hosts.
