Easy access to Boston and Cambridge without the price tag !!
Boston and the heart of Cambridge are pricey areas, but this spacious home is located on the first floor (though there are 4 steps off the sidewalk) and is ideally situated for easy access to both these towns and comes with a kind hostess that is happy to help you organize your visit and give recommendations to the wide variety of sites we have here.
This quaint, spacious, sun-filled home located just off of the Minuteman Bike Path, near a playground and basketball court and a short walk to the Red line (the main T line) - either Porter Square (Cambridge) or Davis Square (Cambridge/Somerville). In both these squares, there are several options for restaurants, pubs and shops, as well as a 24-hour grocery store and CVS. Street parking is possible, though limited and at an additional fee (town fees) and possible off-street parking may be available at an additional fee depending on availability (fees of a local parking lot). Both these options require advance notice.
There are a couple of bus stops on the next block, which are convenient for accessing in one direction, the Green and Orange line, and in the other, Davis Square, though I recommend taking the Red Line since it's the main line and runs frequently. Davis and Porter Squares are easily accessible by foot from my place. If you are comfortable with zig-zagging through the streets, you can be at the Red line T in 8 to 10 minutes, otherwise take a straighter route and be there in 15 minutes.
The home has a shared eat-in, fully equipped kitchen that includes a small dishwasher and a double-living room with a large screen TV for viewing DVDs and basic Cable (includes HBO). It's an ideal home for visiting in-laws. For families with young ones, there are toddler aged activity toys. My son provides the live comedy during day-time hours and does not require silence during the times he sleeps - mostly thanks to the floor plan, but also because he is a sound sleeper.
I do have cereal, milk and coffee available. And I provide a shelf for your own groceries and space in the refrigerator.
Your bedroom can sleep up to 4 persons comfortably. It has two Double beds, 4 dressers (you have use of 4 drawers in these dressers), a closet (I've made space and provide hangers) and a gliding chair with ottoman. If enough time has been given to me, there is the possibility to put in a twin-sized cot, but that reduces the walking space considerably. There is a VCR and small screen monitor in the room with a small selection of videos. If you'd like to watch a DVD, I can hook-up a portable DVD player, as well. The bathroom is shared. Both bed and bath linens are provided. In the bathroom I provide shampoo, conditioner, soap, cotton balls and toothpaste.
There is a washer and dryer on the property at no extra cost. Internet is available, as well.
There are two cats that tend to stay hidden in the front living room, but may pay a visit in the night if a door is not closed entirely.
Accessing Logan airport is relatively easy and usually a 20 minute ride, but, like any city, can be longer depending on the time of day, of course. I like to use PlanetTran for their friendliness, reliability, eco-friendly hybrid vehicles and price. And I can communicate to you additional services (possibly even discounts, if still available at time of booking).
If you want to go out of town for the day (or longer), there are two Zip Car parking lots next to the house and another just down the street. There is also the possibility to rent a car (ask me about how to save money renting a car), and the rental agent will pick you up and drop you off at the house !!
For those interested in visiting the New England Aquarium, I also have the possibility to a 50% discount off the regular price of adult passes. Just let me know if you’re interested. (It’s a great place to visit for kids and adults alike ! ) If there are any other attractions you’d like to see, let me know, I can see if there are discounts for those, as well.
And if you'd like to continue going to the health club, let me know, I belong to a wonderful club in Harvard Square that has a well equipped gym, great classes, a pool (that has children's hours), jacuzzi and sauna and can get discounted passes depending on the length of access.
(For those who are not familiar with Airbnb, please note that even if you send your phone number and/or email to me BEFORE booking your reservation, Airbnb will automatically remove it from your message on my end. All contact information is visible ONLY AFTER a reservation has been confirmed.
That being said, I have a smartphone and check my email regularly, you WILL have a response, usually within a few minutes, occasionally within the hour, unless it's the middle of the night. ;) )
CJ was a gracious and accommodating host, and an interesting person. The location was convenient for us, and accessible to several public transportation alternatives. The room was exactly as advertised, as was her apartment - tidy and clean, but somewhat cluttered. She ended up having overnight house guests while we were there, so space was a bit tight. But everyone was friendly, considerate and polite.
Close to public transport (porter and Davis square) which is very convenient getting in and out of town. Coco was very welcoming and friendly and was super helpful when it came to questions about Boston. Highly recommend staying here
My aunt and I stayed at Coco's for 2 nights, she was really fantastic! On arrival, she immediately took us to the supermarket to get whatever we needed and was always around to give us precious advice. Her home is very cosy and clean and Liam, her two and a half year old son is a treasure.
We would have liked to stay on but unfortunately she was full up.
When we moved to another Airbnb room she packed our really heavy bags into the back of her car and took us there.
We couldn't have started our stay in Boston in a better way.
Coco was a great host, giving us very clear and specific directions to get to her place. Although she was not in, she made arrangements for us to get in at the time that we were arriving, so that we would not have to wait around with our bags and all. Her coffee each morning was also a nice way to start the day. Her little boy, Liam, was really really adorable and a joy to be around. The room itself was clean and comfortable and we had everything we needed. We had a very pleasant stay for the 3 nights that we were in Boston. Highly recommended.
Coco went above and beyond. She is a gracious hostess and we had a wonderful time. She helped us navigate many uniquely Bostonian problems - and went out of her way to make our stay great. Thank You Coco!
Coco was a stellar host. She really went out of her way to make sure that we felt comfortable and at home in her home.
It was great to have so many age appropriate toys for our 1-year old to play with, and it was fun watching our two sons play and run around.
Not only that, she was and excellent resource for any questions we had and were extremely helpful. For example we asked her where the closest Trader Joe's was and she not only gave the address but sent screen grabs from her iPhone on how to get there. We were also apartment hunting and she gave us further advice for that as well.
There are only a few potential downsides.
1) If you are not comfortable living with another family (ie. sharing a bathroom, seeing each other around) this set up may not be for you. But if that is okay with you, then I would HIGHLY recommend staying with Coco.
2) Another downside was the parking, as we had to move our car most days because we shared a driveway with her and her neighbor. But in reality, even that was a non issue as we were out most days before anyone had to get out of the drive way so it didn't impact us. Further, the parking was something I asked for and she provided free of charge - she's THAT type of person! :)
Bottom line: if you're a new visitor to Boston or just looking for a place in Somerville, Coco's is the way to go!
These digs are located in a suburb well out of Boston but ajoining Harvard. However, the city is easily aaccessed using the subway which is a 10-15 minute walk (use the bike track rather than the street).
Host was fine; has a young son who was not well during my stay and 2 cats that live inside. The place was basic; reasonable clean and well resourced in terms of kitchen ware. I wasn't informed of availability of any breakfast or other foods so walked to supermarket to purchase for 4 day stay.
Not the most comfortable of stays but Coco helped me out during a very high occupancy rate in Harvard due to the graduation week.
Coco est charmante et nous avons été très bien accueillies durant le week-end que nous avons passé chez (website hidden) maison est un peu à distance du centre de Boston mais celui-ci est très aisément accessible par le métro et Cambridge est encore plus proche.
Very happy with my three night stay at this home near Davis Square and Porter Square. The location was convenient, about a fifteen minute walk from both Davis Square and Porter Square metro stations through safe residential neighborhoods. Also walking distance to Tufts University. The hostess is a paragon of hospitality and did much more than expected to make the stay easy and convenient. She has two large bedrooms available for guests with one (shared) bathroom. All very clean. This hostess really cares about providing a good stay for her guests.
We had a very comfortable stay at Coco's house. The room was clean and spacious, and is at a great location - less than a 10 minute walk to Porter square station! Coco was very welcoming, warm, accomodating and extremely helpful - she's a great host! We enjoyed our stay at Coco's place and would highly recommend it.
This is the final rate, including any fees from the host and Airbnb.
