About This Listing
Private, quiet, light, airy and open house nestled in a walled garden. Walk the steps to the waterfront and ferry. There have been 4 engagements in this house. It's a love shack!
Fully renovated, great feeling, light and very peaceful designer artists home (duplex) in the Sausalito hills. All new appliances. New kitchen, bathroom and hardwoods. Includes the following:
- 1 King size bed with European pillow top mattress
- Living room
- 2nd bedroom full size platform bed
- aero bed for additional guest
- TV/Film projector
- Apple TV
- Wifi DSL included
- Utilities included
- Car deck parking for 1 car

This house is built on the site of the old water tower in Sausalito so the front garden is enclosed by a rock wall and being about 20 steps down from the car deck it is very secluded and private.
I had been living in China and bought this house when I decided to return to the San Francisco Bay Area. It was owned by an opera singer who lived in it from the time it was built. When I bought the house it was in disrepair but over the last two years I have renovated it and brought back the light and life that I know was once here.
Interaction with Guests
There is a housekeeper who will make sure everything is organized for you. I live there from time to time so we may or may not meet
Sausalito is a great mix of salty sailors, art galleries and up and coming restaurants. There are numerous places to eat on the water or along the locals street. And the city is a ferry ride of 15 min drive away.
I love the fact that although Sausalito sees it's fair share of tourists, it's twinned with Portofino, the locals still have a lot of influence with summer jazz in the park and music in local restaurants nightly.
I wouldn't live anywhere else in the Bay Area. It's magical.
There is a ferry service to SF as well as buses. They are both a walk away.
Other Things to Note
There will be wine, truffles and breakfast goodies for you upon your arrival.
Please be mindful as there may be guests below you. Please remove your shoes and refrain from loud noise and music after 10pm.
Also this is a non smoking house.
Lastly it is per friendly. Mocha, the min pin mix, sometimes lives here when he is not hiking or at the beach.
Tanyia's place has been great for us to relocate to the Bay Area. Please consider our review if you are considering a long term rental. Our overall experience has been mostly good and whenever there have been any issues, such as the internet not working (and needing a fix from ATT) - Tanyia was accommodating and responsive. Any concerns we have had were addressed quickly.
The house overall is very comfortable and well equipped for a short or long term stay. Bed and sheets super comfy, beautiful view of the bay and a great location - only 10 minutes to be over the bridge and into the city.
We'd stay again and recommend it to anyone.
We arrived to find a nice bottle of wine from our hostess waiting for us on the counter. The space was bright and airy with many comfortable places to sit and relax. This home sits on a hillside in a nice neighborhood with a beautiful view of the trees in the valley. From the deck and the bedroom window, you can see the bay. The bed was big and comfortable and we spent a couple lazy mornings watching the birds flitting around the giant tree outside the bedroom window. Everything we needed to know was outlined in the manual our hostess left for us. We enjoyed our stay very much.
We had a lovely stay in Sausalito at Tanyia's. The house is very cozy and warm and has amazing views of the valley and the bay. The beds are comfortable and the house is super quiet! A great place to get away for a weekend.
Tanyia's home is a very special place to enjoy all that the San Francisco and the area have to offer. Upon arrival I enjoyed the three fresh flower arrangements that added color to the stylish, beautiful interior of her home. A note encouraged me to enjoy the fresh fruit and cheese in the refrigerator. The kitchen is perfect with great Bosch appliances. Day and night you can enjoy a view of the bay from inside or out on the deck. The house and Sausalito offer easy access to the city by a 25 minute ferry ride or 30 minute drive. The location provides easy access to highway 101 which takes you to the wine country and beyond. Easy access to highway 1 takes you to Muir Woods, Stinson Beach, Bodega Bay and up the coast. Within a 15 minute drive you can access the Marin Headlands leading to Rodeo Beach and an incredible hike along the coastal trail, returning on a road that provides spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge. This is a small intimate house that provided the perfect location for me to enjoy my visit to Sausalito, San Francisco,
coastal California and the wine country.
We enjoyed the location and loved being up in the trees. Easy to get to town and really appreciated the parking spot. The space was quiet and restful.
Well, what should I say ? The truth !?
Sausalito is a nice place to be, the neighborhood is very nice and quiet, the apartment very cozy, nicely decorated and matches the description, but all these « good things » have « dark sides ».
Tanya is very difficult to reach.. It sure is very nice to travel around the world but when you rent an apartment, you should be consistently organized.
First « Helmut » : hhaahhh Helmut! Yes, Unfortunately I have to heat a bit because of health issues but never over 72ºF. (Far from your « devils grandmother ». Holy Helmut ! Our next lower level co tenant didn’t complain about the heat… because there was no overheating!
So much for this.
Nevertheless, there is one point I share with my friend Helmut. The apple TV issue. Tanyia seems to think that Apple TV is to be considered as traditional TV. Tanyia forgets that Apple TV isn’t, especially when her provider decides to suddenly take 3 days to repair a break down… !
One of the other problems came from house keeping that left the front (main) door unlocked for a whole day.
The garden could be a beauty but weeds and not very nice wild grass makes the place look a little neglected.
Idem for the windows. Spider webs and nests just don’t match this cozy place.
Finally, one of the most unpleasant things was Garbage. Well garbage is never a nice thing but when you first have to stretch and bend or be a master Yogi to get to the awfully dirty garbage cans and bins, it is even more unpleasant.
Overall, again I agree with Helmut I do think these suggestions can be handled easily if Tanyia gives them some thoughts. Oh yes, I almost forgot, if Tanya’s kind enough to give you Marianas number you could get things done and fixed as it should.
I must say that although I was not in the county or at the house I responded to over 30 emails and txts within 30 minutes of receiving them.
Apple TV is commonly used in the US and I am sorry that there was a difficulty with it. I will ask to have clearer instructions left.
The cleaner made a simple mistake for which she sent a personal apology. It should be noted that Sausalito is a very safe area and I always leave my home open when I am there.
Lastly, about the garbage and windows. My housekeeper and personal assistant took care of the garbage and arranged for an extra pick up. I have no control of how much garbage guests leave behind. The housekeeper had arranged to have the windows cleaned.
I did everything in my power to accommodate this guest and requests including buying toaster as soon as it was requested.
ATT, the internet provider, had no service in the area for 3 days and that was an issue I could not solve. I am so disappointed that this guest did not have a good experience but we could not have done more. There was myself, my personal assistant and my housekeeper and IT person responding with 30 mins of txts and emails daily.
There is a lot that I do for my guests - chocolates, wine, breakfast foods, flowers. Unfortunately none of these were mentioned. It was a shame for both of us.
Great place high up on the hill looking back to the bay through the trees. Very relaxing place.
Loved Sausalito - 30 minute ferry or 20 minute bus ride into San Francisco. Sausalito is beautiful and feels miles away from the city.
Would thoroughly recommend Tanyia's place.

About the Host, Tanyia
I am a global ethnographer so I am on the road a lot. It's my job to meet people from all walks of life. Recently I spent a year in China researching women across the country and so why not open my home up and meet people in my own back garden so to speak!
This is my home and it has a second unit with a private entrance so you may never actually see me if that's more comforting!
I have rented this home many times with Homeaway where there are lots of great reviews. Please check this out if you would like to see the rest of the house to give you a better idea of your space.
I look forward to meeting you.
